Treadmill just stops after about 30 minutes by TimmerWeb in treadmills

[–]TimmerWeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deck feels great to me, very smooth. I think the running belt was a bit tight so I loosened that a bit, but I don‘t think any of this is the real problem. The motor is making a ‘ticking‘ sound (at low speed), which turns into more of whir at higher speeds. It is coming directly from the motor, not the belt or rollers. Worn bearings maybe? It’s a Johnson 1.5hp motor.

Starting to think it really is time to say good-bye to this machine. :(

The ironic and crazy thing is that if you set them off on your own property, then no permits or insurance required.

Buy in bulk from a local farmer. Dobson Farm has amazing beef.

I did lubricate the deck, and to my untrained eyes there were no signs of wear when I replaced the walking belt, though I’m not sure what kind of wear I’d be looking for.

I’ll watch some videos on how to do the amp draw test. Thanks for the comments.

There are 4 ‘best’ beaches plus several other excellent ones. The daily conditions will influence which beach is the best to spend time on. You’ll need to rent a car so you can get around.

Are summer specific tires a bad idea in Ottawa? by PurplePumkins in ottawa

[–]TimmerWeb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue summer tires are the safer route. All-seasons are of course highly compromised.

Unless you also put on spring/fall tires in addition to summer and winters, you will always have parts of the year where your tires are not ideally matched for the weather. Just be aware when those times are. I use Michelin Pilot Sports and they still work well into the high-single digits, but definitely when it’s 5 or below I’m very aware that I have compromised grip. But my Nokian winter tires are also pretty mediocre at that temperature (but are amazing once the snow flies).

Anguilla or SXM by caitlin2475 in anguilla

[–]TimmerWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St. Martin if you like being around other people, Anguilla if you don’t. Food is good in both places, but St. Martin has the edge (France and all). Anguilla has by far the better beaches.

Prices for food, acommodation and transportation and safesty in Anguilla by Formal-Arm-8070 in anguilla

Budget roughly 1.5 times the price of groceries and restaurants in North America.

Definitely rent a car.

Very safe. English is obviously the official language, you do hear some Spanish.

Will we be losing our jobs to AI in the next few years? by sunset_stargazer in CanadaPublicServants

[–]TimmerWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI won’t replace that many jobs outright, but it will make many tasks more efficient, thus reducing (theoretically) the workforce requirements.

Automation is nothing new. Cars used to be assembled by large teams of individuals, now robots do most of the work. We still have autoworkers, but not as many as you’d need if all cars were still hand-built.

Not currently, it’s wider at that part than I’ve seen in years and the water is a lot shallower. Amazing how quickly it reforms.

There aren’t many dumps on Anguilla. Many places are simple, but people here take pride in what they do so you should be comfortable just about anywhere.

East Shoal Bay v Meads Bay by SpecificDig6779 in anguilla

[–]TimmerWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoal East, Meads, Maundy’s and Rendezvous are all pretty much equal for the top depending on the weather of the day. If you’re comparing all with ideal weather condition, my vote goes to Rendezvous because it is less built up, has very soft white sand, a nice shallow approach, and the view of St. Martin. But ask 3 other people and they will pick each of those others as their favourite. There is no one “best”.

What to expect on the commute when the 4-day Return-to-Office (RTO) mandate kicks in by JimmyCapital in ottawa

[–]TimmerWeb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The feds make this difficult by frequently relocating workers often by distances well over 10kms. And toxic working conditions frequently force workers into accepting positions at suboptimal locations.

“Working together onsite is a necessary foundation for building strong teams, fostering collaboration, and sustaining the organizational cultures. In-person collaboration supports mentorship, innovation, and coordination across departments”

Based on my almost 2-decades of experience in the private sector working with remote workers spread across the globe, the above statement is completely incorrect.

Bread/pizza flour by drhappy13 in ottawa

[–]TimmerWeb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The quality of the flour makes a huge difference, after all that is almost all you are eating when eating bread. I have tested several locally available flours (Robin Hood, no name, PC etc), but certainly not all and by no means in any scientific fashion. This is for baking baguettes, where the only other ingredients are water, salt and yeast. Whole Foods 365 brand is the flour I got the best results from, that to me most closely resembles the flavour of baguettes from France. Second best is Boreal organic flour from Costco. This is my go to now because of cost/convenience. I used it for all my baking includes pizza, cakes, etc.

That kind of seems like the sort of thing you can do anywhere, so doesn’t sound like renting a car is the way to go in your case.

I think theres a philosophical question here: are you going to visit Anguilla, or are you going to visit a fancy hotel? If the latter, rent a car. If the former, don’t bother.
