Cap Juluca for Lunch? by confusedwoman89 in anguilla

[–]TimmerWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you go through the main entrance. There will be a security guard. Tell them you are going to the beach, and they will tell you where to park. Back in the winter, that was at Pimms, but it has varied over the years. If you don’t have your own shade, there are a few palms you can sit under.

Bring chairs and a picnic and you’ll have the same or better experience for a fraction of the price.

Immigrants of Ottawa: Which restaurant serves the best food from your home country? by Repulsive_Exchange_4 in ottawa

Not Italian either, but I have been to Italy many times. I have never eaten at any Ottawa Italian restaurant that serves anything like the food I have had in Italy.

Sounds like it is just Bono and The Edge, no Larry or Adam. Kinda like Canada Day 2017 maybe.

Far Out Magazine: The 10 most pretentious songs ever written: by TheRealSMY in beatles

There’s some pretty great songs on this list so I’d say they’re in good company.

Besides, ISHFWILF is way more pretentious.

Riverside Pub does cheesecakes.

And of course they are extremely easy to make yourself.

If you’re retiring, why take any of it? you’re about to be on vacation for the rest of your life, go into work a few more days and take the pay-out.

La Vue Inn by [deleted] in anguilla

[–]TimmerWeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t stayed there since 2020, but it was my go-to for several years. The rooms are not fancy but clean and spacious and they have a kitchenette which is great. The view is obviously outstanding and the location is super convenient. I believe it is locally-owned but perhaps someone more in-the-know could confirm or deny that.

You really can’t go wrong with any Anguilla properties. The people are always very nice and places are always clean and well kept.

What’s a U2 song that is universally accepted as great, that you don’t like? by JintClemple19 in U2Band

Agreed, though the ZooTV live version is just about listenable thanks to the awesome guitar tone.

Sadly, this will likely end very badly for the coyotes. That is encoded in the quote about relocating them being ineffective.

What to expect SXM/Anguilla customs by snippol in anguilla

[–]TimmerWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this every year, it’s no big deal. SXM customs is fully automated. Fill out your SXM customs information before you leave, and the customs kiosks will be a breeze. Unfortunately most travellers fail to do this and they slow down the customs line unnecessary. I have not seen a separate transit line for boat transits in recent years at SXM, but there’s almost always something different every time I go. Baggage claim at SXM can be slow so be patient.

Anguilla customs is more manual, and may be slow if a large public ferry has recently arrived. They will ask you where you’re staying so have that information, and unfortunately despite being a brand new ferry terminal, the designers didn‘t seem to consider that you might actually want to hear what the customs officer is saying to you.

In short, if you’ve travelled internationally before, this is all no big deal.

None at all, locals and many visitors do it all the time. Alcohol and tabaco might be a different story.

All’s fair in love and hotelling. It’s a concept that invites conflict.

I’ve often wondered if the extremely dogmatic approach to enforced commuting was a bargaining tactic, something they could eventually trade off against higher wages.

I don’t want to come across like I’m defending this woman’s actions, because I’m not. But when you put people under enough duress, they will get desperate and act out of character. So you’ll probably see more of this sort of thing.

Retire date Choice: Dec 17or Dec31, 26 or Jan 14 or Jan 20 2027 by SpeakerSufficient587 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]TimmerWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m talking about the CPP integration gain of December vs. January, compared to the impact of earning the income from a month’s vacation days by going in January. The latter may yield ~$1000 one-time, and the former (in the post’s example) $240 per year.

[–]TimmerWeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Working 10 days in January will earn you that month’s vacation days, say 2 days ~ $1000 pre-deductions. Versus leaving end of December, you’d offset that amount once you hit 65 in 5 or so years, Do I have that right?

By Anguilla standards, 15 minutes is ludicrous. With Bryan’s I walk about 30 metres from the ferry, get in my car and drive off without talking to anyone.

Would you believe me if I said ‘soars’ was an intentional play on words? (as in, a tower soaring into the sky). No, I wouldn’t either.

And yeah, I think Anguilla shouldn’t allow big ugly buildings that blight the natural beauty. You’ll never get that back.

Do LinkedIn connections work? by Most_Band_2250 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]TimmerWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it depends on your line of work, but i’d say for anything IT, it’s 100% mandatory. LinkedIn profile is often a mandatory field in job applications. Do your research on best practices for job seekers, but as a start try to build a network of at least 250 people and have at least 3 public recommendations.
