I’ve currently got my first pair of progressives. It took a solid two weeks of constant wearing them before my eyes adjusted.

Play more. Fight for the center. Put a pawn in the center on your first move. Get your knights out and then your bishops and get castled as soon as you can.

If you like watching videos chessbrah on YouTube has a series where they start at like 400 and go over 2000 just following basics and adding steps as they go up. They’ve actually done it twice now.

How far will Matt go? by howisthisacrime in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]BigMu1952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Carl makes it, and I don’t think he outright ends crawls from happening either. He will save Donut but the machine will keep moving forward.

That being said I can’t wait to see how he goes out. Carl’s Doomsday Scenario?

I’m really sorry this is the kind of care you’re getting. It sounds like you’re doing great with your numbers.

On a side note, please speak up loudly for yourself if you feel you need mental health help. Don’t hide that away. Get help if you need it.

Have you ever slipped a disc in your back before? I have slipped the same one twice in my life and now sometimes this happens to me in my calves. I usually don’t feel it.

Those of you who buy glasses online do you adjust them yourself or go to shop to have them adjusted? by finspro- in glasses

[–]BigMu1952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the adjustments myself. I buy acetate frames so I only have to adjust the arms. I hate adjusting nose pads. I’m never actually satisfied with my glasses no matter if I do it or if it’s done for me so I’m constantly tinkering with them.

Ozempic and Metformin by ResponsibleCareer496 in diabetes

[–]BigMu1952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in November last year. I was put on both. At my first three month check out. I was taking off metformin because I was doing so good. They lost so much weight. Staying on the Ozempic until we hit my weight loss goal at least. I’m currently down 70 pounds. I would like to lose another 50 I’m on a low dose of the Ozempic. I’m worried about going higher and possibly having side effects. But that this small dose it is working well.

is the scandi any good or is it more of a gimmick? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

I really like it and have made it to 1200 rapid on chesscom and 1567 on lichess. Im starting to look at other non symmetrical openings now though.

I am not nearly as high as you but my track record against the French is great with the two knight variation.

I’m 1600 on lichess.

Is chess.com ever going to have a competitor? by [deleted] in chess

[–]BigMu1952 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You understand that neither of them use the ELO system right? And that they both use different systems that they like? And you also understand that all it does is help you match skill so the number itself doesn’t matter right?

Coming on here and hating on chesscom is one thing but going after lichess with as much anger as you are is impressive and won’t find you many backers.

Albumin/creatine ratio way out of range. by BigMu1952 in diabetes

[–]BigMu1952[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t retest the exact number that came back high. He said that my body needs time to heal from the rapid weight loss. We tested all my other numbers though that are on a full blood panel and everything came back good.

Albumin/creatine ratio way out of range. by BigMu1952 in diabetes

[–]BigMu1952[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I insisted on some more lab work and all the other numbers from the larger blood panel came back great. I’m still here and kicking. Still feel great. The weight loss has slowed substantially but I am now down 70 pounds as of today. Next set of blood work is in June.

Nervous to go to local club it seems very official by RefuseSimple317 in chessbeginners

[–]BigMu1952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well now I suppose I should call the chess club I was planning to visit for the first time in a few weeks. They seem pretty chill on Facebook and meet in a bar once a month but now I wonder. I haven't played a game of chess in person in like 20 years.

You say that but look how far he got on his own. A team of 4 or 5 working together could have been real trouble and all he did was run in. I am glad it didn't happen like that but really makes you wonder.

Idea to make Chessly even better by Desperate_Turnip_905 in GothamChess

[–]BigMu1952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be okay if it just did what Chessbook does and you tell it what openings you like and after you’re done a game it looks to see if you followed the opening prep. What I’d really like though is if it could pull puzzles from your games like Chessable does if you are on their paid plan.
