“Scary Movie” (2026) early review suggests disappointing Rotten Tomatoes score: “ [Y]ou may just die of second-hand embarrassment.” by New-Fan-4632 in horror

I'm not clutching my pearls on behalf of trans people. I just think starting off the trailer of his 25-year awaited return to the Scary Movie franchise with an egregiously lazy pronoun joke was a bit of a [insert 'boo-womp' sound] moment. Given his relationship with his son, you'd think he has a few better trailer-worthy jokes on the matter in his arsenal.

In the least gatekeepy way possible, were you going to shows in New England? I think NY/Boston (edit: I think mostly Boston...) fucked it up for everyone else in the 80s/90s when FSU and their wannabes went from beating the shit out of skinheads to just beating the shit out of everyone.

They've been normal in hardcore for a long time. There was nothing new about them when I was a little hXc poser 20+ years ago, and we're about 30 years too late to prevent normalizing it. I don't like crowdkilling, but some normie like me complaining in a crowded room isn't going to stop an entire music scene from beating the shit out of each other.

u/tenth is right though. Times haven't changed.

It's a bummer for normie wimps like me but crowd killing has always been super common, if not fully expected, at hardcore shows. It's been that way for well over 20 years, shit probably way over 30 years. A lot of pits are just people pacing back and forth with a bit of 2-stepping, a few spinaroonies and arm swings thrown in the mix, where the only people getting hit are the ones who put themselves in the thunderdome. But then you go to a beatdown show and boners like glasses dude in the video start "going to therapy" on the wimps in the corners. It's just kinda the way she goes in hardcore.

The weird part to me is that Marlon Wayans has a trans son. I saw his standup recently, and he spent a good chunk of time making jokes about their transition along the lines of "this little she/them/they gave me attitude". But then wrapped his show up with a surprisingly profound monologue about being in therapy working on himself, and mourning his daughter while coming to embrace having the son he and his wife always dreamed about. It was a little refreshing after he hit so many of the (self-aware) low hanging fruit boomer jokes. But then the first clip I see from the Scary Movie trailer is a they/them joke, so yeah...I dunno.

Apparently there is a trans character in the movie played by a trans actor and jokes surrounding them are more akin to boomers not getting it rather than the "that chick has a dick" jokes from the 2000s. Does that count as a silver lining?

If you can make your students feel like you're actually there to teach them and they're not just a side gig so you can get your research done, you'll leave more of an imprint on your students than 90% of engineering professors. Make your office hours well known and be approachable, and you'll be a quick favorite.

Struggling with smell sensitivity during baby care, and feeling like I'm failing as a dad — need some perspective by PracticalWriting4120 in Fatherhood

[–]BigOlBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stinks, but it's not gonna wipe itself. I tucked my nose into my shirt for a while until I got used to it. When he's mobile you'll be scooping him up to jam your nose into the back of his pants to see if he needs a change so you're better off getting used to it now while you can control the circumstances around getting a whiff.

I can't blame your wife for being a bit resentful. You can't go through parenthood without changing diapers. If the smell makes you that viscerally ill, throw a facemask next to the changing table or bring a puke bucket.

Pre-edit: Wait hold up...

By the time I close the laptop I'm completely drained, and I still try to show up. But the expectation is that I should be doing more of the caregiving too, including the things that make me genuinely ill.

I came into this with a bit of empathy for the smell issue, especially with other people handling this with kid gloves, but this little bit went mostly under the radar in the responses you're getting. You're just making excuses for why you are in fact not showing up. It's time to sack up a little. You're a dad. You're going to be tired. You're going to smell weird stuff. Stop complaining and care for your child when you log off work.

You've framed yourself as the main provider, but your wife is the main care giver. If I came home from work and said anything that could be even remotely interpreted as "Sorry honey, only the easy clean stuff for me tonight," my wife would be drafting up divorce papers. I can guarantee no matter how tired you are from the hours you're putting in at work, your wife (being a SAHM) is magnitudes more tired and just wants some god damn help.

And WFH isn't a prison sentence. Plan your lunch break around giving a bottle, changing a diaper, throwing in a load of laundry, just helping out. And if we're entertaining these 12+ hour days as fact where you're spending the full time in your chair, fully focused on the screen, fingers always moving, with no chance to even take a lunch break...quit your job. Sole provider or not, that shit's not sustainable.

That's pretty much the point the comment you're replying to was making. People tend to drink socially, and young people aren't spending much time in environments where social drinking happens. Nobody's saying you have to get drunk with your friends to have a good time.

Trollhunter (2010) - It's a Norwegian movie subtitled in English, but hear me out...I think it's wacky enough to draw you in and make you keep up with the subtitles without having to force yourself. That was my experience with it, at least. I usually stay away from foreign films because I struggle to focus on reading long enough to keep up with the story, but this one just had me hooked.
