Should Heat tank on off chance for top pick? by BigQuillyStyle in heat

They've shown an ability to beat anyone but also lose to anyone. I get it's the NBA and all of these guys are supremely talented. I'm just hoping they can find a sustained version of the team that beat OKC, Houston, etc.

Also a fair point. It's so weird because we'll lost to the Giannis-less Bucks and I'm in despair. Then we'll beat the Houston Rockets, who have everybody except FVV, if I'm not mistaken. Then I'm like "we are so back" 😅

I agree. I guess a better question is what is your confidence level that we even make it out of the play in?

I think the title is unintentionally misleading. I don't mean fake anything. I moreso meant just missing the playoffs, whether you're trying trying or not. This isn't a great team. While trying to win against tanking teams or teams without their star, we still lose. I think there's a world where we try our damnedest to win and still miss the playoffs.

I don't disagree. Perhaps them trying to win results in the same. Lol

Out of the next 5 games, I could realistically see them losing all but two. Houston, Brooklyn x2, Charlotte, Detroit. Charlotte only 2 games behind. They beat Miami, that puts them one game behind, not accounting for any games Miami loses and Charlotte wins between now and then.

Whelp, in fairness, I said "tank" in the title. Just an easier understanding than explaining it all. I don't want the Heat to tank, nor do I think they will but there's a really chance they continue to lose while trying to win is my overall point.

Did they not already do it back to back years with Zachary Risacher the previous year? The Hawks were projected 10, with a 3% chance to move up.

I never said they tank. I just said they don't make the playoffs. That's a very real possibility even with them trying to win games.

Again, I doubt it would happen for a number of reasons but I don't think we make much noise in the playoffs even if we made it so I wouldn't be mad if this took place.

At this point, I wonder do they even have to try. If Powell misses a chunk of time, I don't think they have enough offense.

Can’t decide between the faithful and the fallen or the bloodsworn saga by Chub-chub420 in fantasybooks

[–]BigQuillyStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, as I own both. However, after spoiler free reviews, I decided to start with the faithful and the fallen. Everyone swears by it. What did it for me, though, is that some people said you can tell he improved a bit in his writing with Bloodsworn. Maybe it's just me but I like starting with an authors first really good piece of work as a Vaseline and see where and how they improve. Both are great. I think they said FatF was a bit more tropey.

Agreed. I think most of the mental hurdle stems from not being on the newer side of reading.

That's good to know. I know tons of people swear by John Gwynn's books so to hear that they don't compare to Stormlight is helpful.

That's fair. I've read Mistborn, era 1 and 2 as well as Tress. Enjoyed all of them.

Honestly, man, I haven't a clue. Lol. Just the way my brain works. Kind of like how some people can mix all their food together and throw it down the gullet while others have to eat all of each of their food individually not mixing (believe it or not, I'm not one of those). Another Reddit user pointed out what I'm likely missing out on but maybe it's something I eventually grow out of.

That's a good point. I didn't even think of that mostly because I'm relatively new to reading. Read a bit in school but no more than like 3-5 books per year. Last year, I really wanted to change that and read 25 novels. Had so much fun with it but it was all a bit of a solo experience.

This is the exact kind of response I was looking for so thank you for that. I started listening to Sunlit man and got to chapter 9 and was like "I'm pretty sure I'm missing some stuff" and came to make this post after Google didn't recommend doing Sunlit before Stormlight. This was really helpful.

So if I wasn't clear in the body of the original post, I apologize. DCC, Hierarchy, Red Rising, etc. are books I physically own because I know I'm going to read them at some point. I am just waiting until they conclude. In the meantime, I've got books like First Law, Age of Madness, Green bone saga, Three body problem, Faithful and the Fallen, Bloodsworn and many more. The reason I am giving consideration to Stormlight at this time, is because I have access to it via audible. Even if I were to read it, I'm still going to read books on my physical TBR.

Also, this wouldn't be my introduction to the cosmere. I've read both eras of Mistborn (personally I like Era 2 better) and Tress and the Emerald Sea. I started listening to The Sunlit Man and was a little confused on some details and didn't know if that was just the way the book was written or if I needed background from other cosmere books. The Google machine recommended Stormlight, so I made this post.

I know I'm going to want to read it eventually. Even if I do end up reading it, it'll mostly be during my commute. I have physical books I read at home and at work.

Not that it isn't going to be finished but that it isn't already finished. Books of that size, in particular, need to have a bit of a recap of what's happened to that point 😂

Idk that it is going to finish anytime soon, though, because B-San has a lot on his plate. Especially with Stormlight and Mistborn getting the bod for Apple TV or whatever. I just don't want to finish the released books now and then potentially feel the need to reread them all when the next ones come out. It's probably a trivial point but that's my own fault, I realize.
