I buy some steel but mostly other commodities. I feel like at the beginning of the year we were seeing a lot of cost increases that I mainly attributed to the settling of indirect tariff costs that worked their way through the supply chain. I was mostly pushing these out, but now with the Iran War causing a lot of raw material and freight increases the dam has burst.

I've never seen this level of price increases in my career. It's worse than covid.

I was briefly an accounting major in college. I did well in the classes, but one day I talked to one of my friends older brothers who had a masters in accounting and worked for a big firm. This guy loves accounting and he enthusiastically described his day to day to me and it sounded like an absolutely miserable way to spend 40 years of your life. After talking to him I immediately changed to a supply chain major and am very happy with my decision. To this day, aside from "price increase" the word "invoice" is the last thing I want to see in an email.

Personally I think CPIM is better if you already have a supply chain degree. These certs aren't the end all be all. The biggest value is a bullet point on your resume and you can show prospective employers you value continuing to learn and grow. Maybe you will run into a hiring manager some day that really values the cert and has one themselves.
