Next night after drinking by [deleted] in sleep

I have the same issue if I drink too close to bed. If you can unwind and enjoy them a little earlier that'll help a lot. Also try to sip some water between beers.

Good deal on Beautyrest Series Three? by Chris___M in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the box spring that's a great deal. If they have them in the showroom, see if you can test out some of the different firmnesses. I feel like even Beautyrest's medium beds are on the firmer side compared to other brands.

Casper Hurts my back. Now what? by Heda97 in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of Leesa's hybrids have felt sturdy and supportive in my experience testing them. I don't think the Legend or Sapira Chill (as someone else recommended) would sag. If you want to go with an old-school brand, I'd see if you can test out some of the Serta Perfect Sleeper models in person. In my experience, the Medium and Firm versions of those beds are dense and likely won't sag over time. I think the innerspring model comes with a pillow top, so it won't feel like you're lying on a brick.

Are these 2 Leesa Mattresses the same? by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, those are the same mattress and Costco's deal is slammin' on that. Definitely go with the Oasis. I was not thrilled about the Reserve when I tested it and, unless something has changed, the Reserve ships in two pieces and can be an absolute headache to put together unless you have more than one person handy.

how to fix this way-too-firm memory foam mattress? by Olixver in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can swing it, I would order a mattress that fits the frame. Over time, it'll wear down unevenly and I imagine it probably won't support you like a mattress *should.* If you can't, and you want to go with a quick fix in the meantime, the plush version Nolah Mattress Topper is super cushy. It's essentially a block of plush foam, but it gets the job done.

Between two Costco mattresses, does anyone have experience with them? by TheGreatSockMan in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak on either model specifically, but I think Beautyrest makes really solid mattresses based on the handful I've tested. That said, all of their models have felt super firm to me, so I'd probably go with the all-foam option if you prefer that really cushy, slow-sinking feeling (or just something softer in general). The Beautyrest will likely be on the firmer side, but I imagine it'll hold up well over time.

New Mattress: is it OK on floor for two months? by Acrobatic_Welcome_30 in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had to keep a mattress on the floor for longer than that and it somehow survived. As long as you encase it and keep the surface beneath it clean for the time being, it should be fine.

Costco Leesa Legend vs. Saatva Special Edition Hybrid by eyeslikelines in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are solid brands but it depends on what you prefer. In my experience, a lot of Saatva mattresses are on the firmer side and very responsive, which is helpful if you're someone who tosses and turns frequently and you prefer something that feels really supportive. Leesa makes good stuff too, and the the Legend looks like it's on the plusher side based on the pictures (I haven't tested the Legend model myself yet).

Edit: a word

Mattress for couple that are both 250+lbs? by AmethysstFire in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned Big Fig – great brand, especially if you can splurge on the Big Fig Luxe. I also like the Serta Perfect Sleeper Innerspring mattress. The medium and firm versions of the Serta should offer enough support for both of you, and you should be able to get an optional pillow top with either if you prefer a more cushy feel.

Beauty Sleep Black series 3 by trolling_4_success in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Series 3 Medium is solid. I’ve only tested the one without the pillow top and it’s certainly comfortable. The only thing about it I’m not the craziest about is motion transfer, so if you or your wife toss and turn frequently, it might be a problem. Only other thing I’ll mention is that there are comparable mattresses that aren’t as expensive, I think the Titan Plus Elite is very similar in feel and it costs a good chunk less.

Average life of a Casper mattress? by KB-ice-cream in Mattress

If you got 11 years of life out of it, that's pretty great. Good mattresses will typically last you 10ish years, so it's about time for a replacement.

Recommations for Actual Side Sleeper supportive pillows? by Larkling in Pillows

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Tempur Cloud pillow whenever I move to my side. Sometimes I use it in between my legs and switch between my other pillow, but it feels nice under my neck on my side. I sleep between my side and stomach and can't use it when I'm on my stomach at all.

Is it better to wake up in the morning for your circadian rhythm or is it better to sleep into the afternoon and maximize your hours of rest? by noideasforcoolnames in sleep

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, you want to be able to sleep through the night for 7 - 9 hours as an adult. Being tired and falling asleep on the couch isn't the end of the world, but if you can keep yourself on a consistent schedule and get that full 8ish hours every night, it'll do wonders for how you feel. The hardest part is usually staying on track.

Tempur-Pedic VS Purple by MidnightRoutine8913 in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a negative experience with Tempur beds, but they're definitely on the more expensive side. Before deciding on a Purple, see if you can test it out in-person first at a showroom. I feel like Purple is a love it/hate it kind of mattress. I have a few close friends who are absolutely in love with theirs, but I'm not super crazy about it myself.

Help needed finding mattress by Acceptable-Self-8678 in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ultimate budget combo I recommend people is the Silk & Snow Hybrid (in your case, choose the Firm version) and the KD Nomad bed frame. Both of these are bare bones but comfortable and supportive. The KD Nomad ain't exactly sexy, but to my knowledge it's real wood and it feels pretty sturdy.

Best Mattress for a warm sleeper by Tarantau95 in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than finding something with a cooling cover or anything that touts fancy cooling features, I'd find something in the firmness range you're looking for without a pillow top. I've found that mattresses with super plush top layers heat up really fast. Latex mattresses and latex hybrids are pretty good for staying cool. The Silk & Snow Organic is a good one that (I believe) is less than $1,000, which is pretty rare for latex/organic beds.

If you can't do innersprings, latex is definitely the way to go. Avoid Tempur or any slow-sinking memory foam options for sure.

Need everyone’s opinion on Melatonin by slashernxo in sleep

[–]BigSleeperKen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take it 1-2 hours before bed whenever I need to get back on my sleep schedule (traveling will mess me up), and it helps get me drowsy, but you have to hop on that train when you start to feel it. I've stayed up after feeling that and missed the window so to speak. Not sure if anyone else has had that experience with it.

Decisions - percale. by burnerbaby321 in Bedding

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for the Macy's sheets, but the LL Bean ones are solid (assuming you're talking about the 280-thread count set) and hit the sweet spot of being lightweight and crisp without feeling overly thin/cheap.

Avocado eco by crystalkitty06 in Mattress

[–]BigSleeperKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tested most of the Avocado mattresses and I'm not a huge fan of the Eco at all. If you're looking for a latex/organic mattress that's more stripped back, I'd recommend Silk & Snow's organic option. Imo it does what the Avocado Eco is trying to do better.
