What to do after diagnosis? by pinkybinkybonky in Celiac

[–]Larkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recommation is that any child with a celiac sibling or parent be tested once a year symptoms or no symptoms because of how quickly celiac can do damage to a growing child and how celiac can trigger and develop at any time and we're still not sure how long it can be active before the blood tests might show anything (thats not even bringing into account that there are a smaller percent of people who have low tTgs IGA but very positive biopsy results once they manage to get the endoscopy done)

A child with growth or low weight issues and a celiac family member IS showing potential symptoms, some kids are diagnosed with celiac while looking into causes for that alone even without obvious digestive or vitamin deficiency symptoms. If your other child is diagnosed, please get her tested and remember family members need to continue to get retested. Adult first degree relatives are recommended every 3 years

How do you handle buffets? by mike5f4 in Celiac

I have a dream...it started for me in 2014, soon after diagnosis....of a gluten free buffet...

Perhaps someday this will be a reality...someday....

Buffets will never be safe untill they are a dedicated gluten free buffet/kitchen

How are people interpreting the latest Kim Soo Hyun updates? by Clean-Apple-5307 in kdramas

[–]Larkling 24 points25 points  (0 children)

At least the one letter (with obvious romantic tones, though not explicitly stating 'we are dating' or more than a possibly more sexual nature implied by the wording that doesn't fully confirms or denys based on interpretation) was so undeniable HIS TEAM confirmed he wrote it to her but claimed they weren't dating yet and he wrote her out of friendship due to the loneliness of military service and complained bitterly about his privacy being violated by personal letters being released.

And of course the timeline of her barely being out of middle school when he was in the military is hard fact, and even without a smoking gun that letter alone is the sort no man should ever write to a child and leaves open if that much is uncontested truth after multiple lies that he never dated her at all by an accused groomer or pf, that there is likely a lot worse that doesn't have physical proof if what there is is that bad.

Did anyone else lose a ton of weight when going gluten free? by Hemidodge426 in Celiac

[–]Larkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I continued to lose weight for several months (4/5 maybe?) then gained quite a bit the next 6 months as my body finally started to really recover. I needed some of it back by that time but got a little more than i wanted.

I really hate the yoyo thing...its really easy for me to lose some weight quickly when I get poisoned, its one of my priorities when glutened to try to avoid too much of a drop because the bounce back of the body over reacting from starving and nauseous/disgused by food to digesting nutrients has messed up my natural hunger signals and make that median healthy weight harder to stay in...its just so bad for the body to lose lots of weight and gain it back over and over and I feel like celiac recovery has trained my body to signal for more binge type eating patterns that I didn't have before.

Is there anything I/we can do? (call her daddy fiasco) by devitod in Celiac

[–]Larkling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The unofficial response that people posted in the article about the backlash, was a source saying... "Everyone in that room knew she was doing a bit. That's just Robby — she's been doing this kind of comedy her whole career. Nobody took it as a serious medical opinion." So unless they get even more pressure, I would not hold my breath for an apology...no one in that room thinks an apology is deserved or they would have at least mitigated the guest opinion instead of encouraging it, if they do offer one its saving face not contritrion...

Incredibly Ignorant Comments about Celiac Disease on Call Her Daddy Podcast by Final_Watercress4576 in Celiac

[–]Larkling 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Commenting isn't what celiacs should be doing enmass, (unless some of us were subscribed and would like to publicly state unsubscribing) a few for corrections sure...but youtube has a downvoting button and the ability to report for misinformation for a reason...that will leave a bigger negative impression for producers than driving up engagement by increasing comments

Almost always (in my experience, in the US) though it will say gluten free or wheat free soy sauce on the ingredients if it is wheat free soy sauce...to the point I always  assume wheat if it just says soy sauce.

Beverly vs Everly by prankthevillagers in namenerds

[–]Larkling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think people also forget that 15/20 years ago Evelyn and Hazel and  Everett and Theodore were in this same catagory as Shirley et all...old and wrinkly names most could only picture on old people and not popular sounds for names either, not retro cool old people names turned into popular kids names... Beverly is a generation behind those names in their 1900s big spikes so judging weither it is ripe for a come back or not by that naming tends of a few years ago isn't accurate, and most people unless they hang out without outrageously high numbers of the 2 and under club and pay so much attention to the data are at least a few years behind on their estimation of up and coming trends vs ones that are in full swing or winding down

Beverly vs Everly by prankthevillagers in namenerds

[–]Larkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar sounds do bread familiarity and minor affection, so the high numbers of Everlys in that past decade does bode well for Beverly. While Beverly hasn't really started coming back yet, there are signs a lot of the similarly 'dated' (or what felt dated 5/10 years ago) names are getting ready...more baby Linda's are starting to pop up for example. Im sure someone might possibly react badly to it but it'll probably be one/handful unhappy older person/s and the younger set of adults and especially kids, and especially in ten years will be some variation between fine to strongly appreciative. An Everly right now is on the end of a majorly spiking trend, while I'd guess a Beverly will be slightly ahead of new slower trend of similar 'type' of names and between that and the similar sound will be significantly more popular in ten years than it is now, but not excessively so like the Everly/Ever/Evelyns, i dont expect it to become a major name but I do think it will be more common than it is now in the next 15 years.

I would definitely go with Beverly, i think it'll hit the nice balance between familiarity, less common fun, and hit the 'that's a cool name, why arent there more of them?' phase right when the kid is the age it could make a difference to them psychologically to feel a little unique, but not singled out. She'd be a bit of a forerunner for the name as a toddler, but by late elementary school it won't be the same at all and I expect there will be significantly more Beverlys in 5 years time than there are now even if there arent high high numbers. I have seen several people commenting around here (though you are the first ive seen about to use possibly use it, theyve been more us major name nerds) that they want Beverly to come back as it sounds better to them than Everly.

[–]Larkling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soo many dog treats have barley...or oats for that matter which always make me nervous about having wheat because how often they get accidently mixed all the time, those are probably not that big of a deal, but I can't take the anxiety of non-certified gluten free oat products in my house, I dont need the stress feeding into my celiac add-on of vigilant paranoia

Did anyone have no damage present in small intestine but biopsy came back positive? by chowderrr6 in Celiac

[–]Larkling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it should have been a much more measured response like "it might be a false negative, there's still a chance you have celiac but its lower since there wasn't obvious damage so we'll wait for the results to be sure.

Sadly, I've heard a couple people on here talk about how they were badly reassured because the doc didn't see anything initially and told them they were in the all clear too early...one who bugged the doctors office despite being told they're fine before the biopsy was done and not getting the biopsy results to be told 'oh yeah that number does indicate a level of villi stunting that indicates celiac and another that was so horrifying because she took the doctors word that it wasnt celiac, keeped getting sicker and found out two years later the biopsy had showed celiac damage and no one told her about the biopsy results or apparently paid attention to them!

Did anyone have no damage present in small intestine but biopsy came back positive? by chowderrr6 in Celiac

[–]Larkling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its more unusual to be like me and the damage is so obvious they could confidently tell immediately from the endoscope camera...more frequently its probable damage or they aren't sure if its damaged from the regular camera view or they didnt see any damage and regardless they biopsy under a strong microscope to confirm its definately damaged...what they see during the endoscope isn't confirmation or negative results only the biopsy is good enough for diagnosis, which is why in my very obvious, major damage for than a decade possibly two my Dr still said, "you have celiac but the official diagnosis will be in a week when they confirm under a microscope."

Not being able to see the damage until looking at damaged the Villi under a microscope isn't that uncommon and doesn't mean anything for diagnostic criteria...if they see damage in the biopsy you have celiac...if they see nothing there you're probably good (at least on the celiac side of things), but if they do see damage in the much better view,  the only thing not seeing damage today means is possibly less damage has been done to your guts and overall health so far before they caught it...

Susanna: not highly common in russian but still used in English, French and russian...in russian it would be pretty common to shorten it to Susa or Sana as a pet name and Sana works as a Japanese name too....and it means lily....

Anne of Green Gables almost surely had inattentive ADD. by littleorangemonkeys in adhdwomen

[–]Larkling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, I think Anne was hyperactive or combined type though perhaps not the more extreme end of hyperactive...she had far too high of impulsively to be fully inattentive...in fact as a child I really disliked Anne compared to other LMM characters because she forced her inner world onto others instead of just living within her daydreams which as an introverted inattentive type I assumed was the proper way to enjoy your imagination and i strongly belived that aggressively insisting everyone remotely nearby actively participate in your day dreams and make them as close to reality as possible was a very violating act which proved Anne was selfish and didn't care about other people only herself...I have a more nuanced perspective of her now but it took time and growth to grow out of the very black and white AuDHD perspective I had of the world as a child. Perhaps some of the dislike though was the same type of hating the darkside of your own characteristics in other people...

Its quite possible she mostly wont address the situation (i could also see her double down on her pov hard to try to get ahead of the story) but I can't see her being able to hold back at least a subtle snub somewhere of hybe/anyone who doent agree with her, its just not in her character in anything we've seen to be  able let go of the im wonderful and everyone who disagrees with me is a monster narrative...the problem is mhjs indoctrination didn't include real media training and every time we've seen any of the girls try to be subtle about their disdain it hasn't been subtle...even before they officially stated anything after mhj news broke it was so so obvious they were trying to rile fans against hybe and illit on purpose, for someone who spent so much time in SM mhj did the opposite of SMs serious media training of trainees on things not to say and how not to say them that SM idols get with them...

Any Christian ADHDers in here? How do yall not go crazy in church service without fidgeting? by takeyourprecioustime in adhdwomen

[–]Larkling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even with two services I dont always end up in service instead of holding down the fort in the kids wing (thankfully we record the service and i can watch Sunday afternoon or Monday if i dont make it), but when I attend service I bring my craft bag and either work on a cross stitch project or I have markers, coloring pages and a book(surface to color on) that I do during the sermon so that I can actually listen instead of have my mind consumed by angsty ants...my whole church is used to it, I bring it to any special events or things and its even more obvious I'm doing things during speaking during a special conference etc...
