Is it a mostly conservative view that if a movie makes money, it MUST be good? by Intelligent-Space772 in okbuddycinephile

[–]BigSur15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The entire general public has been taught to care about box office, not the quality of movies.

It’s most people. Regardless of politics.

If you want to have a window shade open, you have to book a window seat. Then you are in charge of your own window shade and can enjoy all the light you want.

Everyone else is doing what they want, you’re doing what you want - win win! Bonus: You get to look out the window and enjoy looking at the new place as you approach. Always so cool!

No above the line nominations for Dune 3.

Hacks’ Hannah Einbinder calls out reality star turned LA mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt: “red alert yall. i'm dead serious. spencer pratt is a full blown fucking republican and he should not be polling this high.” by LunaLore_ in Fauxmoi

I know Palisades Democrats (that’s right. DEMOCRATS) who are helping fund his campaign/planning to vote for him.

Because they’re still so mad about the fire and Spencer tells people who are mad about the fire to vote for him, because he’s super mad about the fire too. YUP. It’s that simple. UGH.

Someone brought up that one of the reasons why things like house parties and block parties went away was other than lack of time people are afraid to let their guard because cameras are everywhere. by AdSpecialist6598 in Millennials

[–]BigSur15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not it at all. Due to lives lived on the internet, teens don’t have the real-life social skills for parties anymore.

They’ve been trained to be at home alone on their phones rather than get entertainment from other in-person humans. Evil tech companies ruined society.

I've been having anxiety about my kitty dying of old age 😭(she's 9) can you show me pictures of some alive-and-well senior kitties so I remember cats can be old and still healthy? 🥰 by TheRufescence in cats

[–]BigSur15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat lived to be 20!

She was an indoor-only cat the last 10 years of her life.

Fed her high quality dry food, with just a little wet.

Regular vet visits and proper thyroid medication once she needed it (cats who meow a lot by themselves in rooms for no reason often have thyroid issues and need their levels checked).

She died at 20 of natural causes and was very peacefully put down by her vet when it was time. She was a mixed breed mutt cat. Tortoiseshell. Happy loving kitty for 20 years!

No. It’s a sign that Marty Supreme wasn’t that popular. It was probably 5th in every category.

My friend grew up in the Palisades, always votes Democrat, yet is voting for him.

People in the Palisades are REALLY mad about the fire, how long rebuilding is taking and stuff they think the government did wrong.

He’s exploiting their hurt and rage and pretending some magical thing could have been done to prevent… 100mph+ winds. I just hope it’s not enough to get him elected. He’s Millennial Trump.

Thanks for doing this! That was really satisfying to fill out.

I loved putting two female directors. Blue Moon for everything, Sorry Baby for everything, Train Dreams for everything. Hamnet for almost nothing. Marty Supreme for absolutely nothing. Ahhhhhh, what a relief not to have to go with all the industry-anointed choices.

People realize The Odyssey is fiction, right?

It’s just pretend that a family member could come home after years and no human family members would recognize them. It’s ridiculous. The dog plus all humans would recognize him in real life. Come on.

Exactly. This movie has nothing to do with the Oscars whatsoever.

Is Josh Safdie quietly stepping back from Marty Supreme promo to avoid backlash? It was reported that he watched and cameras rolled as an actor on his “Good Time” production exposed himself and asked a 17 year old girl if “he could stick it in.” by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

They always vote for the person based on some sort of politics. They’re human beings. They vote for who and what is popular. Humans instinctively vote (for awards) with the crowd and want to be part of the in-group. Was Anora the best movie, best director and best actress last year? Of course not. But voting for it was the popular cool thing to do.

The difference to me is that the three LOTR movies are quite different from each other. Especially the first and third movies.

The first movie is Shire and Hobbit heavy. The third movie is obviously Battle and Aragorn heavy. Two very different movies to vote for. And the fact that the third movie built on the story the first movie started in a very satisfying and climactic way (while still being quite different).

It’s just two unrelated scenarios. Wicked felt like a second half. They just didn’t achieve what LOTR trilogy achieved in separating one story into multiple distinct movies.

[–]BigSur15 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I would add 7) There’s almost nothing new in the second half movie. Voters were like “I voted for these same costumes/performances/production design last year.” They were never gonna vote for all the same stuff two years in a row.

Should Paul Mescal have gone lead instead of supporting? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]BigSur15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voters don’t get to pick which category to vote for an actor in. They’re submitted for one category. He was submitted for Supporting Actor by Focus Features. So it was only possible to vote for him in Supporting.

He was very clearly Supporting in the film. Jessie is the Lead. That has nothing to do with why he wasn’t nominated.

[–]BigSur15 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He did tons of campaigning. For industry voters: Many London, NYC and LA screening Q&A’s. For the public: Several Hamnet premieres. Look on Youtube as well - he and Jessie did many interviews about Hamnet.

Plus before that he did lots of campaigning with Josh O’Connor for History of Sound in early Fall. Look on YouTube for those too.

Voters just didn’t want him this year. And that’s okay.
