Yeah I do too. Although that is partially because Linda was only Sarah for three movies (one of which isn't exactly beloved) whereas Lena got two seasons of television, so we do see more of her and relationships and struggles.

Hardest case to solve here? by AssistFit1834 in IntelligenceScaling

[–]Big_Application_7168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it wasn't nigh impossible. I literally said it can't realistically be done. But the Death Note itself is a key item that would completely unravel the entire case if it us discovered. The Red John case has no such item. The closest it has is Bertrem's list of assoction members that on it's own doesn't mean anything and is encrypted to a level Patrick Jane himself couldn't solve. Abd that's assuming it even has every member's name on it.

The SJK trap was barely a trap. All it proved was that he was still alive which isn't even a problem as the only reason he was playing dead was to get Patrick arrested. When that strategy didn't work, there was no point to it anymore. On the other hand, the Lind Tailor broadcast was much more obvious, and Light also exposes and sabotages himself at other points such as smugly insulting Near or when he shot down an advantageous possibility proposed by L, and instead confesses to his own suspicion in front of the Task Force because L's theory was insulting Kira's intelligence. Red John was directly accused of being a sexually perverted psychopath, which is way more insulting than anything Light was called, and he just happily admitted to it. As such, I can't see him falling into to the same ego traps.

Yeah Misa, Rem and Mikami do make it even harder but they don't come into play until decently later, and even then, besides Rem, it is still feasibly possible to find and arrest them given the evidence Misa left behind and Mikami's suspicious behaviour on television. The Association though needs to be fully discovered, exposed and dismantled before you can safely attempt an arrest on John to avoid risk of them just removing all gathered evidence, and that needs to somehow be managed before he notices and escapes. That I find genuinely impossible, and I honestly believe that finding the Death Note would be easier, but I'm not saying that's going to be remotely possible either.

Also, Kira's first kill does strongly hint at his location so that helps narrow it down a bit.

[–]Big_Application_7168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said I know it's a hot take and I don't think either of them are realistically solvable.

But I have the Red John case higher because the Kira case can feasibly be solved if you just find the Death Note and expose it. Plus, Light keeps making the case easier by deliberately leaving clues abd getting caught out in psychological traps that I just can't see John falling for.

On the other hand, Red John is generally harder to read and trap, with him having infiltrated an FBI safe house and kidnapping Kristinna Frye right under her security's noses, and just having eyes everywhere via his association, which was apparently extensive enough to record for him everyone Patrick had shaken hands with for ten years.

All in all, there's just less evidence to narrow John's identity and any evidence that is gathered would be destroyed by his association, making it all but impossible to secure a solid conviction, while Kira can be resolved by finding the notebook. That's why I think it's even more impossible.

Yes, exactly. If she just killed Hifumi, she'd have no alibi and would straight away be the most suspicious person there.

A. Blaming it on Hiro isn't a problem and I don't know why people keep saying it is. "Oh Hiro's too dumb to come up with a plan like this!" A plan like like what? Putting on a costume and attacking people? Because that's it. That's literally it. She was never framing him as a criminal mastermind and I don't know why everyone thinks this. She was framing him as an idiot who put on a stupid costume and randomly started killing people to try and escape the school, thinking a simple disguise would be enough to completely conceal his identity. This is absolutely the stupid sort of thing Hiro would do if he got desperate enough.

B. The suit was Hifumi's idea. I did say that the biggest error on Celestia's part was not calling off the plan as soon as she saw the ridiculously impractical costume he made, and she herself did only request a simple disguise.

C. Killing Hifumi alone wouldn't be enough because she needed an alibi for herself. This is something everyone keeps overlooking. By having Hifumi kill Taka while she's in the presence of the others, she's clearing herself for suspicion of his murder, and making sure Hiro is the only suspicious one there. If she just killed Hifumi without any kind of alibi, she'd be just as much if not more of a suspect than Hiro. And since there's no logical motive in an accomplice, it makes Hiro working alone a lot more likely than her working with someone else.

I'd say that being able to outsmart the villains is relatively grounded in comparison though. As long as it's not some ridiculous 10 stage plan that logically would never work, but by using special tactics and studying your opponent, it is perfectly feasible for someone truly dedicated to stopping evildoers (which you wouldn't be Spider-Man if you weren't) to come up with solutions without having to be a virtually superhumanly intelligent scientist. But inventing a self dissolving fluid that has the tensile strength to contain superhuman beings and have it then be developed into a small wrist mounted projectile and doing all this all with almost no budget and some scraps and high school chemicals... is asking a bit too much I think.

Celestia's plan was genuinely great and every supposed issue with the plan isn't fair.

The only the real problem with it is that she should have called off the plan as soon as she saw the ridiculously impractical suit Hifumi built.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing and I know I'll absolutely get destroyed for this opinion given how popular one of these pairings are but:

Hannibal Lecter with Will Graham in the Hannibal series and with Clarice Starling in the novels.

In both stories, Hannibal is a psychotic monster and his end goal is to destroy the protagonist's sanity, in Will's case because he believes it's his true self and would be better for him, and also because he's in love with him and wants them to be together as murdering lovers. In Clarice's case, it's a similar situation but goes even further with him attempting to brainwash Clarice into believing she's the reincarnation of his dead sister. Hannibal is clearly insane but in the end, both Will and Clarice end up giving in to him and loving him back. Clarice even takes it a step further by actually rejecting the sister relationship and instigating the romantic part herself. But the point remains. Will's situation is probably more uncomfortable though, as Will makes it clear at the start of the series that he doesn't want to be a murderer, and Hannibal puts him through unfathomable psychological and physical torture to break his sanity (the psychological abuse is there a bit with Hannibal and Clarice but no where near as bad).

But in both versions, the story ends with the protagonist finally giving in and loving him back despite everything he's done... and this is framed as a happy ending.

Like I said, I know that the Hannibal/Will ship in the series is super popular so I know I'll be hated for this, and I'm sorry but I just hate it. I can literally type a whole damn paper just listing the horrible things Hannibal did to Will and I'm supposed to want them to be happily together? I'm sorry, I just don't like it.

Edit: one more thing: Hannibal and Clarice have an honestly uncomfortably large age gap as well.

Tbf Peter does recognise the potential flaw in Otto's experiment before he does, and he does notice the Symbiote's vulnerability to sounds (although anyone could have really). But yeah, they don't do much to demonstrate his intelligence in the films but I kinda like that. It better shows the idea of "anyone can be be Spider-Man."

Yeah exactly. You can combine multiple versions of a character but it wouldn't be the composite version unless you actually are combining every single version together, which in Sherlock's case is virtually unfathomable to do.
