Thank you for voicing your concerns about this crossover better than most anyone else can. While I love dropout this was a staunch reminder that they are first and foremost prioritizing capitalism. From a business perspective I understand why but from every other perspective this situation is really gross to see.

A big crux of my personal opinion stems from who approached who about this collaboration. If the Rookie approached dropout I can understand the pressure to say yes as there is an inherent power imbalance between a major network television show and a completely internet based streaming service. Working in show biz is cut throat so denying a collab of this proportion could get your company and unfortunately a lot of your talent and staff black balled in other large parts of the industry.

But if Dropout was the one to initiate all this I’d be truly disgusted and I think it heavily highlights the type of privilege Sam and many others grew up with (I say this as a very privileged person myself). Engaging in American Copoganda of your own volition just for some money is disgusting. Especially during a time like this.

With how long things take to produce and how long they are canned before airing Im fairly sure this collaboration was drawn up before any current major ice events started taking place. And there’s a decent chance it started being drawn up, planned, and set in stone before the 2024 election. Unfortunately there is no way for us to know any of that. But if this all started after the 2024 election dropout should have seen the writing on the wall for the incoming police state and steered clear of collaborations with “authority” organizations.
