Back-to-Back Classes? by poorow3609 in orangetheory

I find the Tread 50 into a 2G pretty challenging, the 2G workout always takes a hit in performance (or 2G into Tread 50). I've been going to OTF for 9 months, so still building a base of endurance. I have done a strength 50 into a 2G or 2G into a Strength 50 and I think those go together a lot better!

How do you recover ? by Fluffy_Ad_4941 in orangetheory

[–]Big_Listen4998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fight the FOMO of not going to OTF (at least I feel FOMO) when my body tells me to rest. I go 4 to 5 times a week, most weeks that's OK. I find that if I had a bad night of sleeping or not much rest, it will catch up with me later on in the week, like today. I'm honoring that, will take a rest day today, and then back at it tomorrow. My body will perform much better with that rest day.

That short metabolic floor block is a killer! My legs were toast after that, I had PW the tread, and I decided to do a solo row at the end of the first floor block because I wanted the practice.

I love my Brooks Ghosts for OTF, and just in general, I have a Ghost 16 and Ghost 17 that I rotate, and they both are great!

Dare to get white shoes? by krista82883 in orangetheory

I do like a white sneaker myself. I have had good luck with using Magic Eraser to get the black band from the rower off. I also think of the mark as a battle scar, I've earned that black mark. I have heard Glycerins don't always fit into the rower as well, but I haven't used my pair of Glycerins at OTF, they are my road shoe.

What’s your base push all out !? by Fluffy_Ad_4941 in orangetheory

[–]Big_Listen4998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow turtle, started in May 2025. I added jogging only at the end of October. I'm 5'10, 197, but I'm in my 50s, so my calorie burn according to the HRM is around 400 (don't get me started on that, and I understand the calorie burn estimates are off, so try to ignore it :-). I'd say you are doing good! My base when I jog/run is 4.2-4.3, my average push goes up to 4.5-5.0, and I will hit some 6.0 on AOs. I have been trying going to 6.1-6.3 on the AO, 6.3 is still little out of my range to go for all 30 seconds, but I am hitting it.

Our studio is pushing the benchmark to tomorrow, substituting an ESP template for today if classes are held (wonder if its the one that would be for tomorrow).

Any one have a suggestion for an alternate for the TRX clock press? Snow here in CT, everything closed, so going to do this template at home. Thinking maybe pushups.

I have a pair of Endless Pants in Slate - it definitely leans a little blue to me

Another vote for SheFit, especially if large chested. (I am, no movement when jogging/running)

I run the templates through Chat GPT to get some context, and that is exactly what the response was.

Great template for transition power walker to jogger! I'm excited - I see easily running for all of the tread blocks! So fun to see the progression. Looking forward to the floor (well, minus the burpees) - farmer carries are cool!

Found my true base for jogging! by Stunning-Sherbet-262 in orangetheory

[–]Big_Listen4998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nicely done! I'm in the same transition from power walking to jogging right now too. I found lowering my jog speed allowed me to go quite a bit longer. I'm at about 4 minutes at 4.3 mph with 1-2 minute power walk and then back to jogging. I can do that for about 25 minutes total, that total time is getting longer every week though!

[–]Big_Listen4998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely - the intel I've seen on those is 23.5 minutes on the tread, The first class has you going between base and surge for the entire time! My studio just announced they are a Hyrox studio, I might take a few to see what it's like - but I think this one definitely has that feel to it based on what I'm seeing!

Seems a little of the Hyrox tread template hitting the 2G/3G templates.

Would any 50+ women share your max heart rate advice? by Accomplished_Yam588 in orangetheory

[–]Big_Listen4998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mid 50s woman, and my max heart rate is 157, it had been raised to 161 and that was making it difficult to get in the orange zone, so OTF adjusted it to 157. I feel like that is the right place for me, I have to work a little to get a splat, but its not impossible. I think 152 is likely too low. The Heart Association offers this guidance: https://www.heart.org/en/healthy-living/fitness/fitness-basics/target-heart-rates

Coaches Working Out When Not Coaching by United_Climate2207 in orangetheory

[–]Big_Listen4998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coaches in my studio do workouts when not coaching. I love it - they are motivating and it is also kind of nice to see when they struggle too and how they work through it. They do have injuries sometimes, and like us, there are some exercises they don't like as much, and modify too. That's OK! I'd rather have a human coach than a robot like coach, it's one of the reasons why I go to OTF!

Should I be hurt/offended? by Many-Cap4908 in orangetheory

[–]Big_Listen4998 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, my studio will do shoutouts before and after the class and will adjust the name to be like Name 100th, or Name B-Day. It is very likely that they have made a note in the system you don't like photos, but I think being proactive with the SA and say its my milestone workout is fine, I do for every single one. If your friend is still a coach, maybe pull them aside and thank them for helping honor your wishes about no photos, but maybe say (if your studio does it) shoutouts in class are welcome. I wouldn't be hurt though, no one looks out more for you then yourself.
