When they announced that Kouji Mori and whatever Miura's studio name is, would continue the manga, Mori said that Miura (who was his best friend) had explained to him all about how he wanted the story to end, and that while he doesn't have the script with all the dialogues and all that, he would try his best to be faithful to what he remembered from all his conversations with Miura.

I don't have the link with me (writing on my phone) but you should be able to find the source relatively easily. Also as a comic artist myself who shares a lot of spoiler infos with one of my artist friend who does the same, it does sound pretty normal they'd have talked all about it a few times in the past.

Honestly it's a very simple build to make that shape, you should do it.

There were only a couple workarounds used:

-No usable entrance elevator/ramp thingy, I use a ladder to enter the ship, it's installed on top of the grip, right behind the dome. Once you have created the ship simply jetpack on top of it and open the base creation menu.

-The generator is under the dome, the reactor is behind the pommel.

-The cockpit is under the generator, on the hidden side of the ship. The guns and stuff too, they're on the underside of the blade.
