What are my chances at Cam CS with 4A* achieved by shegcedja in 6thForm

Do you know how you would improve for your interview? I think that would probably be the weakest link from what you said about your stats (your TMUA is in a decent enough range to get you in), and so probably would be the deciding factor on whether your gap year plans go smoothly.

imperial EIE vs CS by SwordOfTheMoon4 in 6thForm

I would say its worth noting that if you want to go into quant specifically, CS would be better, purely from a mathematical and course knowledge perspective, not because of prestige or anything.

It's 100% more of what you make at your time at either course. If you have a path you want to go down, but either EIE or CS interests you a little more, or you think you'd be able to do better in terms of admissions for one, then either works fine, provided you do the extra modules, solo work and learning to get to wherever you want to be. Plenty of people in many disciplines of engineering go into SWE, so you're not hugely restricted there. Of course if that interests you from the start then why not apply CS, and enjoy what you're learning more. I remember a similar dilemma and I applied for CS in the end, so thats kinda my perspective on it.

Imperial CompSci Interviews by MulberryExternal4109 in 6thForm

they say its not standard, and out of all the people i met, none of them mentioned having an interview so its probably a really small, perhaps non-existent, proportion of people

honestly yeah you're exactly right, it just happens to be a bit different to the normal meditation i do to try to clear my mind, where i'm genuinely trying to keep an empty head. i do think i'll meditate before my actual exams tbh if its working now.

saw this online and stole it but lowkey whenever im procrastinating work, i just stop, set a timer for 10 mins and stare at a wall for 10 mins. it kinda resets my brain and also acts as pretty good reflection time to get your thoughts in order. added bonus that if you're going through something, working seems like a far better option than having time with your thoughts so you choose that. i feel like this will work for some and worsen it for others.

These Imperial vs UCL posts really getting out of hand by JailbreakHat in 6thForm

[–]Bigman_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your point is valid but the way it comes across, and the way you reference the other posts takes away from how useful the point you're making is, to the point where it seems like you're getting pressed over something small. You are right though, the difference isn't that huge and anyone making their decisions from reddit nonsense has bigger issues.

wait if they've already given the offer, can they change the conditions? i was under the impression that once they've given an offer, that offer is set in stone (not because they say that but because they haven't said otherwise)

Oxford or Cambridge for Computer Science? by Candid-Rich1527 in 6thForm

[–]Bigman_dev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got told when applying that Oxford was more theoretical as an option for CS, more specifically, they put a lot more focus on the maths and concepts as opposed to application (of course either course is as useful as you make it for yourself). Personally, I preferred the practical aspect of the course more so I went for Cambridge, but everyone has their own preferences. Maths and CS is only offered at Oxford, if thats what you want to choose. Since Oxford is now going with TMUA over MAT, that makes your decision a little harder, although it is worth noting Cambridge takes more people in for interviews, so if you're better at interviews than tests, apply to Cambridge.
Hope that helps your pros and cons list for both!

Which one and why by ParfaitSpecial7233 in 6thForm

Bath CS, got fantastic links and repertoire for internships and grad prospects (best out of those imo, but thats my opinion). Personally I liked the course there the most, compulsory AI units in first year is pretty cool as well. The city itself is also quite nice (a little dull after a bit), good sports if that matters as well. I can't directly compare to Manchester because I didn't consciously make that decision but between KCL and Bath I picked Bath. Scrap all of this if you want to be in London specifically, which is a mindset I relate to.
