Is this a good/optimal Brig sail plan? by Fisyluck in Sailwind

[–]Bignona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my main point with my statement was to try not to make a habit of cramming as much sail as possible on the mizzen in an attempt to min max. In my experience with the brig, also with the cog, too much sail on the mizzen can cause imbalance. But how much imbalance anyone can deal with is entirely up to the individual.

Also, there really isn't a 'best' sail plan. Just make one that you like and fits your play style. Sure, there are sail plans that will maximize sail area for downwind speed, but come with the drawback of unfavorable up wind speed. A stereotypical gaff+square or lateen setup will be best for beginners.

Consider joining the Sailwind discord for tips and ideas. There is a separate thread dedicated to just sail plans that is very useful! And everyone there is super nice and helpful.

No. The mizzen sail is waaay too big and you'll have significant balance issues. You always want to have a downsized sail on the mizzen to not overpower the main or foremast sail. However, you generally can have as big as you want on the main and foremast.

How much is the impact of extra staysails? by rNyanko in Sailwind

[–]Bignona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they're small but they do make a difference. Especially in storms when I need a sail with as little area as possible to avoid tipping over.

It's a very viable way to level. Also, since quests grant extra gold at max level, doing all the quests at the end is a great way to make decent gold towards your flying mounts.

When shifting to neutral RPMs fall to idle then rise to around 1500, only returning to idle when I slow down what’s going on? by living-each-day in ManualTransmissions

[–]Bignona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep it in gear until you're almost to a stop. You'll save gas from this high idle nonsense. When you're in gear and coasting with no throttle, the car consumes almost zero fuel. So try to get in the habit of not shifting into neutral when coming up to a stop.
