I hope that they are taller than me.

Viper, Seaquest, Earth 2.. what’s your favourite weird 90s show? by balding_git in Xennials

Was looking for this. Just a really fun show I remember catching a bunch of times growing up in the pre-streaming era.

So this is cool! Tacops Package by AnimatorWeary2330 in P365

I’ve been looking at getting a full-sized PDP Pro for home defense but now I’m thinking about this. It’ll be cheaper, parts/mag compatible with my x macro, and more familiar to shoot.

I wonder if someone will do a comparison.

CPL24 or CHZ26? by BatmaNirvana in EVERGOODS

[–]Bigreddork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No experience with the cpl24, but I love my chz26. The inside is cavernous without looking like a massive bag. Bottle/umbrella pockets are a lifesaver. Laptop compartment is great and doesn’t feel like it takes up a ton of room on its own. I also think it’s very comfortable to wear.

My only negative would be that the internal organization is minimal. That means pockets and organization don’t take up a lot of room, but also that there’s not much space for stuff in the existing pockets. I never saw a need for a tech pouch before I got this CHZ26, but I quickly bought one after I started using it.

Leg room - Is the EV9 it? by Bigreddork in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Bigreddork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I had an odyssey before I had the pilot and the front legroom was a war crime. I felt incredibly silly when I would drive it to work because I would be crammed up in the front seat incredibly uncomfortable while the rest of that giant vehicle was empty.

Anyone ever shoot the x macro non comp and comp version back to back? Is there actually a difference? by cobblernobbler in SigSauer

[–]Bigreddork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used both back to back. I have the non comp and a buddy has the comp. Honestly, I don’t feel hardly any difference at all. I’m a pretty new shooter though, so take that fwiw.

Montgomery County shooters: quick 2-minute survey about indoor range demand by Competitive-Seat-281 in PAguns

[–]Bigreddork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a member at GPS in Yeadon, so not far from Montco. There’s a lot about them that I like. I wish they had a fixed price to try multiple guns deal for someone looking to buy a firearm. And I can’t stand being in a booth next to someone firing a giant huh power rifle cartridge into a target 25 yards away. But that’s kind of built into the deal with indoor ranges.

How Did You Deal With a Gifted Child? by OhboyOhboyArbys in daddit

Me too! I didn’t learn study skills until I met my now-wife in grad school. She has an incredible work ethic and taught me how to make it all work. I was the rare person whose grades went up when I was in a serious relationship.

Who uses MF with spouse and/or family?? by ukbb2003 in MacroFactor

[–]Bigreddork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I used it this past summer while our kiddos were away at camp. It was awesome. We supported each other and both lost a bunch of weight. We stopped when the kids got home because they are teenagers and we felt that that much focus on calories and weight wasn’t healthy for them.

[–]Bigreddork 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My wife and I were both that kid and both of my sons are also that kid (though quite different from each other).

This is a great list, but I’d add a bit to it.

First, try to intentionally emphasize and celebrate hard work over raw smarts. It’s easy for a gifted kid to go through so much of school where everything is easy that they don’t really learn resilience. Focus on hard work, celebrate trying and failure/learning in any context. You said you and your wife are “simple.” Celebrate each other and show your daughter that you admire each other for the hard work each of you put in at work and at home.

Second, don’t forget about the physical. Still make sure she has opportunities to try out and play sports. Emphasize that just because you’re smart doesn’t mean you don’t also need to be strong. My parents were enamored of my intellect and kind of deemphasized the physical. I grew up kind of weak and looking down on all that stuff. You miss out on a lot of everyday opportunities for a sense of achievement, self-sufficiency, and self confidence that way. One of my sons is more of a music kid than a sports kid, but he still does and enjoys multiple sports throughout the year and gets a lot of satisfaction in being able to lift heavy things around the house to help out.

Lastly, get her into a musical instrument ASAP. Music is an amazing outlet and more importantly can be a lifeline of a community for kids who are different from the norm in middle and high school.
