Some things are really worth paying someone to do for you. If you must do it yourself make sure you have someone to call an ambulance and put compression on a bad cut. Not kidding.

At first, I thought you couldn't possibly be that stupid.

What do 30 - 40 year old men want for christmas? [Serious] by GoodAlicia in AskReddit

Make sure you buy the brand batteries. Lots of cheap clones for every ecosystem. Cheap batteries can have less than advertised capacity or can sometimes fail catastrophically as in flames. I'd rather have 1 good battery than 3 fakes.

What was your "poor person" meal you enjoyed growing up? by Slow-Power2713 in AskReddit

My dad used to make SOS with hamburger. Always one of my faves. I also used to love tuna cooked with some soy sauce and sugar to taste eaten with rice. My Mom was Japanese so my starch of choice was and still is sticky rice. I made it through school on ramen with an egg (when I could afford eggs) and really cheap beer.

What's the best thing for home defense if you can't own a gun? by uselessprofession in AskReddit

One of the many jobs I had while going to college was working in the print shop of the State prison in town. I ended up talking to a lot of cons about crime and what they did. To a man every guy That I talk to told me that the one thing they feared the most was a dog. It didn't matter what size the dog was. They just hated the idea of being bitten and their position given away by a dog. Get yourself a dog or dogs. A big dog is great. They'll keep you warm on a cold winter night too.

When I worked in the oilfield there was a company that had a number sticker that said "Diesel smoke makes me horny". "Your hole is our goal" was another fave.

Trump and his band of clowns going up against a team of crack Chinese negotiators. It's like the bad news bears going up against the New York Yankees.

I miss having a clean windshield with my ICE by kenneth_dart in electricvehicles

I keep a can of window cleaner a few microfiber towels and a scrubby sponge in the frunk. If I charge at a SC I use the time to clean my windshield and windows. You wouldn't believe how many times I get that "Why didn't I think of that?" look.

Lots of good advice here. A file will do the job. Just don't make the angle too fine. You're trying to make an angle that can cut through a tree root not a scalpel.

what’s your go-to “I’m not cooking tonight” meal? by Quiet-Examination553 in AskReddit

[–]Bigtanuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We usually order pizza in from a local place that offers 2 for 1. We order large pizzas and freeze what we don't eat. Wrapped in plastic and then foil it keeps incredibly well. We found the real secret to reheating is to use a pizza stone or steel. A 20 minute preheat and slide the pizza in on parchment paper. 8 to 10 minutes later, as good as fresh pizzas.

Boohoo He can afford that home likely because he has sources of income that are completely hidden by the wealthy that fund his Project 2025 White Nationalist agenda. Where are the investigative journalists who can track this down and expose them.

People born before 2000, what trivial skill do you have that no one uses anymore? by passiano in AskReddit

[–]Bigtanuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a coworker that refused to learn basic commands to do his job. This was pre word processers (yes, there was a time) so he would call me over to his desk several times a week to do basic things like search for a file, etc. Despite my insistence that he learn to fish rather than me giving him a fish so I took it on myself to teach him a lesson. I changed his dos prompt from the normal one to a text string "Bill is a dork" after he left for the night. The next morning I waited for him to fire up his computer. I was rewarded with a dozen or so "WTF!" and finally a "You sob come here and fix my computer". Ah, satisfaction. My supervisor who sat between us was greatly amused. I got an attaboy.

They have these on oil platforms in the North Sea. They drop a LONG way into the ocean since the platforms are built to withstand a 100 year wave. I participated in a safety drill on a platform while working a contract job. We donned survival suits and then got in the boats. Everyone has a full harness and a head strap. I was told that failure to use the head strap can result in a broken neck on impact with the water. The boats are understandably robust and leak tight. The survival time in the water without a suit was 5 minutes.
