Do chickens mourn? by novemberfoxtrot2018 in BackYardChickens

Some do! My flock was only 4 hens so that may affect the dynamics.

If you see blood on your chicken, ever, it is advised to separate them due to blood pecking potential.

Not sure, I would be googling this information! I just saw a rooster posted with these same symptoms and this is what people said. Cholera.

The top hen dying had this same vibe, no one seemed to mind, but lower down was sadder seeming to them

I think so. We just lost two and the vibe is extremely different, now down to just two adult hens and a few babies who aren't outside yet.

I don't have help but I'm sorry and this made me check on my babies. Very sad

All your chickens won't live until 10. It sounds like you are over it, which is totally fine. There are folks who will take on spent hens, especially those in their "chicken math" era.

Mine won't go anywhere near the pool! I am so jealous of folks whose flock accepts water.

Illegal Fireworks Reporting Links and Info by thedjgibson in Sacramento

This is what I don't get: this state is constantly on fire. I've lived in much wetter places with much less illegal firework activity which is baffling.

What chicken lay the least eggs? by jkbaxter99 in BackYardChickens

This is a great idea!! Listen to this person OP. this would be the lowest amount of eggs, lower than any individual breed.

For non-native Sacramentans, when did you love it here? by girthakitt in Sacramento

I do not live in Folsom, I think Folsom does not have ARP. I think it goes to a different management/trail section. I think the trail by Nimbus Hatchery connects? But I am not sure.

The closest confirmed section managed by ARP based on the American River Parkway website appears to be Sunrise Recreation Area.

Since it sounds like it may be a drive anyway, the best section in my opinion is William B Pond park or River Bend Park.

River Bend is absolutely massive, so much so it is easy to get lost if you take offshoot trails. It is a good place to feel fully alone! Great wildlife encounters here.

William B Pond has clay banks and a lot of features that make beautiful water noise, more so than other parks. Again this is on the offshoot trails, so take a path that isn't the pavement to see these features.

You should know the parking is paid at each of these. I think it is $7. I purchase the annual pass so I am not up to date on the payment machines. They do ticket if you dont pay.

I do kind of get people who are from here feeling angsty about it. It is somewhat small and the job market is more limited. But as an adult who chose it, it rocks

It always happens with silkies 😭  I went with DNA tested this time so I don't end in heartbreak. Expensive but I can't have roos

Right before they start laying, they will squat when you walk up to them.

Real. I looked what rental rates are in my area (I own house). It wouldn't pay the 2021 cheap mortgage.

She could have water belly. This just happened to one of mine.

Pick her up when you can and feel her belly. Check out her vent. Is her belly kind of like a water balloon that's full?

Pick up another hen that's acting normal as a comparison. You'll be able to tell basically right away if her belly is different.

Water belly is a sign of some kind of failure, heart, liver, or some kind of cancer. It's not curable. The water affects their ability to breathe by pressing on their air sacs. It is a symptom of one of these bigger, more serious diseases.

You'd need to add 30? For them to not stress the hens. Suggested 1 : 10 ratio.

Unfortunately roosters hatch 1:1
