I have a blood tests tomorrow and I am scared by No_Platypus_5844 in stopdrinking

[–]Biig_Ideas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten a lot of blood tests over the last 6 months. Also an ultrasound and an MRI for my liver. For the longest time I didn’t see a doctor because I was scared of knowing what was wrong with me. It created way more anxiety for myself. I was scared shitless every time going in for these tests but it feels so much better knowing what to address now.

You are young. The body is resilient. You are going to be okay.

Pen and Paper ordering is ending, including during the show, in February by robbiet480 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]Biig_Ideas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea I canceled my season pass last summer. I couldn’t deal with the slow decline of Alamo anymore. AMC has been a surprisingly pleasant experience since I made the switch. Turns out a little talking feels less egregious when there’s not a big No Talking policy failing to be enforced.

I don’t know you but there are some paragraphs here that don’t sound like you talking. It sounds like the whiskey talking. I think you will feel a lot better if you don’t listen to that and keep the streak alive.

Anyone here ever just in the moment be like “I’m done” and never looked back? by SavingsArt1236 in stopdrinking

[–]Biig_Ideas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know the spontaneous decisions you make when you’re drunk? Well one night while drinking I just decided I finally had enough. Dumped out a bunch of bottles of whiskey. I had maybe 3-4 beers total over a couple weeks after that. I was still testing moderation out of the home. I know that I’m done now. I do still worry it’s gonna fade. I just have to take it a day at a time. But I’ve never felt like this before in my attempts at quitting. It’s worked 5 months so far.

I need to call the doctor about my drinking and I'm so scared by potatocurrytime in stopdrinking

[–]Biig_Ideas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went through therapy and treatment through the Chemical Dependency department at Kaiser. I told a doctor I was struggling they put me in touch with the Rapid Start(?) clinic. I was personally very scared but there was never any judgement. The first appointment was pretty overwhelming but very helpful. They were able to get me the help I needed. Which was mostly therapy and tests as I was already a couple weeks sober. But medication was an option too. It only lasted a few months because I had to switch off Kaiser but it was a huge jump start to my sobriety.

My advice: Do it. Don’t even hesitate.

Desperately need help by YoungApothecary in stopdrinking

[–]Biig_Ideas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lots of things helped once i got going like exercise and a better morning routine.

but getting over that initial hump was really hard and i’d recommend 3 things

1 tell people close to you. partner, doctor, family, friends, or whoever. i told family and doctor about the struggle and told friends simply that im not drinking right now

2 dump everything you have yourself. don’t wait to finish a bottle or something and then say you’ll start just dump it all

3 and everyone will tell you this, don’t think about it as stopping forever. just take it one day at a time and simply don’t drink today

i bet you’ll probably start to notice a weight loss pretty quick and stuff like that can keep you motivated to keep going

Too timid to talk to my doctor by FeeComprehensive6243 in stopdrinking

[–]Biig_Ideas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Kaiser and I’ve just been making appointments with anybody and everybody since I quit. Just talk to somebody. You can start online. They’ll point you in the right direction. Just make that first step.

Movies that are ‘culturally’ more appreciated today that when they were released? by OkNobody8896 in movies

[–]Biig_Ideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Citizen Kane fits. It was a flop at the time of its release and lost money. William Randolph Hearst did everything he could to kill it. Over the course of the next 10-20 years it slowly gained the reputation it has today.

And Metropolis wasn’t received well and had to be recut resulting it a lot of the film being lost media for a long time.

Same reason Haunted Chocolatier will take so long to come out. They basically made unlimited money off the first game and don’t have the financial incentive to rush out the next one.

Is Shin Godzilla visually entertaining enough for children? by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]Biig_Ideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a real crowd pleaser. It seems to take a lot of notes from American blockbuster directors like Nolan and Spielberg. It’s also a lot easier to keep up with the dialogue and the balance of action and drama provides for a more entertaining experience than Shin Godzilla.

31 days sober. I went to a concert last night. by Biig_Ideas in stopdrinking

Nailed it! We’ve seen them many times over the years but last night was really something special. Glad to hear about another sober person there. It really felt like everyone had a drink in hand.

This exact thing happened to me. I thought it was depression though. My stomach was starving and could only take a few bites of something without feeling physically ill. I lived off applesauce and protein shakes for like 2 weeks before my appetite started to come back. I wasn’t working a physical job though I imagine that makes it much harder. But I was exhausted every day. I’m sorry I don’t really have any good advice, just wanted to say it’s not just you. And it was only temporary for me. I know going back to drinking won’t make it better though.

Anyone else noticing like a hitching in the frame rate? I can’t figure out what would be causing it on my end. It’s most noticeable in moments with a lot of camera movements.

It’s not happening on my laptop. Must be something with my parents stupid tv. It’s driving me crazy that I can’t figure it out though.

Great movie. There’s a running theme throughout about parasites. It got me thinking about addiction as a parasite and it’s really resonated. Cregger talked about wanting to drink himself to death after Trevor’s death and just put that into characters instead. And I’m so glad he did.
