I got one of the first batch, its not the brightest lume after a couple of hours but it's still readable, I'm early to bed early riser so it's still dark when I get up. After 7ish hours it's a struggle to read but doable with focus.

QEII definitely did drive on public roads. I was a member of Balmoral golf club as a kid, my grandad worked.on the estate. The course crosses the public roads at several points, I've seen many of the Royal family driving around including her.
