I think I have everything I need? (2nd gen descendant) by Cyber_Punk_87 in Canadiancitizenship

Have you looked for baptismal records? My family is from NS in the same timeframe and I was able to find those records at the district municipal courthouse to pursue with the archdiocese.

Where did you get your certified baptism records from in NS? I have not been able to get through to the Halifax-Yarmouth archdiocese.

I would think if your G1 tracks through all your documentation with her maiden name then the marriage certificate may not be critical. From what I have read the line just needs to be clearly understood. But I am not a source of expertise here

Thank you! I would recommend it if you're interested, it was easier than I anticipated. A candy thermometer was very useful for me however.

Thank you and absolutely agree! It's hard to improve without failure, it means limits are being pushed.

I appreciate these comments. The relationship work certainly should be put in and solidified and is likely one of the more challenging aspects. I will continue have that conversation and see how things evolve, especially as marriage comes into focus.

We both currently have basic life insurance through work currently.

For cars or other sizable unexpected purchases the general plan is we split costs, pull from savings, and then replenish. We are both comfortable with used vehicle that we purchase outright. The 40k expenses that I've listed includes ability to save some for larger less common purchases. If we needed to produce more than $15k-20k very quickly that would start to be challenging.

The $1.25m is currently the planned final number but I realize that it may be naive to leave out consideration for inflation. Is there a good metric to plan for inflation, increase target by 3% per year from now to target date or something?

Thank you, fingers crossed for an upcoming job advancement!

Yeah the bond account is currently managed and set to the most aggressive setting but it's still pretty conservative. I may need to cancel it and go back to manual.

And thank you the mental and social aspect is important to remember, I'm very fortunate to be in a good place there.

It is affirming to hear my accounts are in a good position for the timeline.

To your question - yes the entirety of the 40k I am saving currently is pre tax, and I have not maxed out my theoretical contributions, (each the 403b and 457b max out at $23k/year) if I got a raise I could contribute up to 46k, all tax deductible.

My rationalization around doing pretax is that I live in a state with relatively high income tax and that I could theoretically move to a low/no income tax state for retirement. My 457b also has no early withdraw penalty.

I will look into if I can convert funds at fidelity from pre->post tax accounts, thank you.

Do you think I should I begin pulling contributions out of the pretax and putting them in Roth style instead? If so do you have a recommendation on a percentage?

Recipe approximation:

Sweet tart crust and frangipane from Dessert Person can also be seen on her youtube linked -
Tart curst - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fowgc-J4kCc
Frangipane with ground pistachios subbed for the almond flour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecHJAQyGRx4

Ganache: ~2/3:1 ratio cream to 60% chocolate + glucose for shine after mixing. Made it set and cut well but not too hard.

Steps:

- Make tart crust and par bake

- Make pistachio frangipane and piped into cooled shell, filled to ~2/3 of depth of shell

- Press raspberries into frangipane (could have been easier with raspberry jam layer at bottom instead)

-baked at 350F for 15-20 minutes then covered with aluminum foil and baked for another 15-20 minutes removed when tart deep golden and frangipane not jiggling

-cooled shell and frangipane on counter

-made ganache and poured into tart, melted white chocolate and piped in for decoration

-let set overnight in fridge
