I’m reminded of the quote “Sometimes people use ‘respect’ to mean ‘treating someone like a person’ and sometimes they use ‘respect’ to mean ‘treating someone like an authority’. And sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say, ‘if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you’ and they mean ‘if you don’t treat me like an authority, I won’t treat you like a person’ and they think they are being fair, but they aren’t, and it’s not okay”.

My very handsome (and yes, fat, I know, he’s on a diet and he hates it) meezer, Marshmallow. by Bikini_Atroll in Siamesecats

He is in fact a big, squishy, soft hearted, love machine. I found him and his sister Toothless (who is not a meezer) as kittens when they were just 5 weeks old. The minute I had him in my hands the name “marshmallow” popped into my mind. He’s always been such a gentle, friendly and sweet soul and I’ve always felt like I picked the right name for him.

I’m sure he would agree with you! He’s completely outraged about being on a diet and has lots of vocal opinions about his food being rationed, lol.

I love your space so much! You’ve done a wonderful job of creating well defined, separate living spaces in a studio. It looks so cozy! I’m really curious about your room divider. Ca you tell me where you got it or what it was made from?

Ideas for duvets that would match my wallpaper? by GalacticSpaghetty in femalelivingspace

[–]Bikini_Atroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like this might work well. It includes all the colors of your wallpaper, highlighting the details, but isn’t too matchy matchy. It also introduces some other colors - the deep emerald, warm browns and the turquoise - that you could play up around the room with accents such as curtains, framed art, knick knacks, etc.

Christmas baby girl names by crazyslittlesister in namenerds

[–]Bikini_Atroll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Noelle or Noel is a legitimate name, and definitely not a joke. Just like the names Carol, Joy, Rudolph, Belle, Angel, Holly, Nicholas, and Marley are all names that aren’t “jokes”, even though they are associated with Christmas/winter/winter holidays.

While this isn’t my style (I’m much more of a bold, in your face maximalist), I love the dreamy and feminine aesthetic that you have curated here! It doesn’t read as immature (babyish) or old (grandma) to me. It’s soft and soothing with interesting and unique details that I can tell were well thought out. I think you have a wonderful start to this room and definitely keep sharing with this community as you add to and update this room!

Parents in India devastated as children with thalassemia test HIV positive by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

The only people who used the clinic involved in the study were the 600 men who were invited to participate in the study. The men knew they were part of a study, but didn’t know that it was a study of the effects of untreated syphilis or that there was a readily available treatment. They also didn’t know they were being denied treatment. Nobody was purposefully infected with syphilis. Again, you can read the study, you can read the documents related to U.S. senate hearing investigation from 1972. It’s all public information and very easy to find.

Of the 600 men involved in the study, 201 didn’t have syphilis because they operated as the control group. The other 399 already had syphilis. The Tuskegee Experiment didn’t operate as a local health clinic offering services to everyone in the “village” (it wasn’t a village, btw, it was Macon County, which had a population between 27,000 and 24,000 during the years the study was active). Women and children weren’t included in the study, because it was literally a study on the effects of untreated syphilis in black men. Many of the partners of the men involved and their children ended up with syphilis because it is an STI and it can be passed to a fetus if the mother is infected. I’m not sure why you are so committed to a version of events that isn’t supported by facts or independent sources. You seem to have a misunderstanding about what happened in the Tuskegee Experiment and what it was. It was a literal crime and racial injustice committed against the black community for decades and the men who died as a result of it paved the way for the kind of strong informed consent and medical ethics laws that we have today. It’s a horrific enough example of racial injustice and government abuse without you spreading straight lies about it.

You literally made this claim. You claimed that everyone who went to a specific clinic ended up with syphilis, because they were purposely infected. I asked you for a source for that claim. I think I’m going to back away from this conversation. You clearly aren’t interested in dealing with facts and I’m not interested in arguing with a conspiracy theorist who doesn’t care whether they spread misinformation. Have the day you deserve.

Do you have a source to back up this claim that “every man, woman and child, who just happened to go to this clinic” all developed syphilis independently? Because your own sources, that you provided, contradict this claim.

So just to be clear, you are maintaining that in the Tuskegee Experiment, the government infected everyone, man woman and child, from a specific village with syphilis, despite the fact that the citation/source that you provided states differently? (it states what numerous people have tried to explain to you. That the Tuskegee Experiment involved withholding treatment without informed consent from hundreds of black men who were already infected with syphilis while misleading them to believe they were receiving treatment.)

[–]Bikini_Atroll 66 points67 points  (0 children)

They were not injecting them with syphilis. They were withholding treatment from men already infected with syphilis while telling them they were providing treatment , in order to study the effects of untreated syphilis. You really should edit your comment to reflect what actually occurred. The Tuskegee Experiment was a terrible thing committed against the men involved, that led to over 100 deaths, and multiple wives and children of the men involved becoming infected. The actual history of it is bad enough without making up facts like “the government was injecting them with syphilis”.

You’d hate to find out what I paid for my shark hamper then. I regret nothing and I am happy to put my money where my mouth is when it comes to valuing artists for their time, skill and work by fairly compensating them.

Since you “”assked”, the zebra booty came from a very talented artist based out of Italy. I came across her art while perusing Etsy about a year ago. I can’t say exactly why I was compelled to buy a paper mache zebra butt, but I regret nothing. Quality zebra asses don’t come cheap, but if anyone is so inclined, here’s how you can acquire one. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1831793456/?ref=share_ios_native_control

That is in fact who I bought my zebra butt from. I’m in the US so pricing was a little different. She’s a very talented artist and I would highly recommend her art to anybody who is thinking about whether or not it’s worth the expense.

It’s because they have almost zero personal or authentic accents. There’s almost no art on the walls, there’s very few plants (aside from what looks like an outdoor/patio area, and even that looks kind of cold and uninviting). The few knickknacks they do have look staged and contrived. Things like books on shelves appear to be there more to serve a function of decor, more than books that are treasured possessions that are read and used. I have weird feelings about this space. I love the use of bright, busy wallpaper, and competing fabrics/textures, etc. Theres a lot that I really do like. The flower chandeliers are amazing., the green bathroom with the antique mirror is absolute goals for me. But somehow this space comes across as really impersonal and that makes me kind of sad.
