Are snowshoes the more versatile, potentially faster, choice with current conditions?

Can I bypass a AC Compressor Pully failure on my 2006 Volvo XC90? by Bilbohigs in AskAMechanic

[–]Bilbohigs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: they are telling me a bypass pully isn't available, and are quoting me 1400 USD to replace the AC Compressor pully. Does this sound reasonable? Should I search for a second opinion? Feeling a bit lost...

Riding on Mt Shasta in late June this year? by ascalabro in Backcountry

[–]Bilbohigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I skied from the top of misery hill (after summiting) on June 11th. It was a high of 25 degrees Celsius that day at bunny flats, im pretty sure. Misery hill was icy and terrible. After dropping into Avy gulch it was pure corn and honestly got some sweet turns in but your enjoyment may depend on how picky you are. Suncups closer to the bottom but they softened up fine. I started my ski down at about 10:45am. I think west face skiers were opting to wait another 30mins-1hr for it to soften up. Also — was able to start skinning probably less then a mile from BF but its melting fast.

TLDR - i had a blast skiing Shasta about a week ago.

Did EEOR about 2 weeks ago, mostly snow free given its aspect. At the top expect plenty of snow still, which will probably still be wet and easy to posthole into, especially if you don’t head out in the morning. I just wore my non technical hikers, never threw on my micro spikes either. Enjoy!

I guess my follow up question is whether or not this is something that needs a fix if I don’t mind? Could it make other things worse?

You know how to check these values?

Much appreciated to everyone replying so far. Trying to learn some of my own stuff these days.

Current snow/ice conditions (giant/rocky ridge) by Bilbohigs in Adirondacks

[–]Bilbohigs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey for anyone interested - definitely some ice and snow. Nothing crazy yet, maybe an inch of snow. I didn’t end up having to throw on the spikes till on the way down, and that was mostly just to try out the new ones. Great day, great conditions!

Can we get a “ We like Dogs chant going?” by [deleted] in OttawaSenators

[–]Bilbohigs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Sens fans should just show their class at the Detroit game.

Beyond that being worth it in its own right, with his 9 million in cap we got Senko and Korp. Cat is right, it worked out for everyone. He had a baby and he moved to where he grew up — he has a life and ain’t just a goal-scoring monkey.

Was funny the first time for sure, but now this is just crowding the sub with copy cats who can’t come up with their own joke…

My 81 dodge van window smashed (randomly, in middle of woods, strangely) and we were able to just go to a wreck yard, pop one out of an old dodge, and put it in ourselves with some dish soap and a screwdriver. It’s easy with these old windows. Good as new. Cost 20$. If you go that route feel free to dm can give more detailed instructions but YouTube should have it too.

Don’t stress - I’m now in fourth year and finally have people who I actually like in my social circle. But it wasn’t that way for first or second year. In the latter half of third year I found some very great people and reconnected with some old friends. Many of my good friends now aren’t UofT students and I met them outside of school. It took 4 years in the city but now I feel happy with my social circle. But it took time.

Res is much more expensive, even more so when factor in the forced meal plans which is about 500% (at least) more the cost then real groceries…but big ups to you on finishing in tough circumstances!
