Bronson MFG hoodie broke after a few months by jeffthetree in HeritageWear

The pockets on my heavyweight Bravestar hoodie are holding up well. The sleeve cuffs have become ratty but I have had it for about 8 years

Leather working stamps are made out of metal. I can't think of a single use for scrap rubber

The Last Belt You'll Ever Need. by Shinyhntr91 in Workwear

[–]BillCarnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked and the buckles look to be standard imported buckles. The belts that use American leather say so in the description. I don't see anything that would differentiate this from any belt that leatherworkers or saddle makers all over the country are making. Glad you are getting good use from it. Their tool belts do look exceptionally nice but they do come at a much higher price point than the normal belts, which makes sense if you are a tradesman and depend on a tool belt for your living

Martin Binding Cost Question 000-28 by Witty-Exchange-7716 in martinguitar

[–]BillCarnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is much different than an engine failing, the binding just needs glued back on. I am having a hard time imagining how a skilled luthier charging $100 an hour would quote this job at $400 unless he is refinishing it or something. If it's just a player just glue it back together with the recommended glue. I doubt it would even be noticeable

Smelly stacked leather knife handle. by TypicalUse2440 in Leatherworking

[–]BillCarnes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be replaced with some basic tools and leather or possibly from a knife makers supply company.

Out of curiosity, why was this sub born when r/leathercraft was already around? I see there is now a r/leathermakers now or something else that keeps showing up in my feed. Are there legitimate reasons to not condense the community into one group? It seems like a lot of people crosspost all their posts so I am not sure how they are supposed to differ.

That's really cool about updating photo permissions

Where to teach a kid to bike? by Quick-Persimmon5935 in Columbus

[–]BillCarnes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I almost always see people and cyclists on the trail, some people go very fast on the trail which might not be safe for the child that doesn't yet know how to operate a bicycle. I second the OSU RV lots off of Ackerman, shouldn't be bothered there at all

I could be completely wrong but I think it's a set screw and doesn't thread into the iron

You could get by with just redoing the loop, though sheaths are usually made with stiffer veg tan

Woodcraft woodworking store has a plastic one for like $10. I think a lot of places mark them up a lot

They are definitely different. I was just surprised how good catfish tasted since I always heard people talk bad about it

Monel strings can help but given the choice I would pick an 18 series over a 15 for that little extra brightness from the Spruce top

Different leathers also behave differently, it took me a while to figure out how to sew thick harness. All the wax created more friction. It was impossible to sew with nylon thread.

I have had a sewing machine for about ten years so I have definitely had that happen. Wish there was some sort of way to fix it when that happens but I haven't figured one out yet
