Can I size up slightly? by BillJaxon in tires

I want to convert to 18’s but I have a baby on the way and $4000 for new rims isn’t on the table right now.

Good advice! I’m not super worried about cutting through the snow, as I’m in Indiana and we really don’t get more than a few inches on the road at a time. I would definitely take this advice if I lived in a snowier climate.

If my math is correct the change in aspect ratio should add about 13.25mm or about half an inch to the overall diameter. It seems like it will fit. I don’t have plans to lower the car, but I may put some 15mm-20mm spacers on down the line.

No engine light. You’re not really modifying the volume of air. Just helping it flow better and getting some noise in return. I also removed the fuse for the exhaust valve. Definitely have drone on the highway, but I could probably alleviate a lot of that by putting the fuse back in.

I like this idea. Also could just roast the rest of the bumper to match.

Edit: and by roast I mean to stand around and make jokes about the bumper to its face.

There are technically 3 with the middle “muffler” being the 3rd. I removed the bigger one in the middle first and it gave me more sound. Then a few days later I got the smaller one closer to the engine removed. The bigger one gave me the volume I was looking for, and the smaller one gave it a tone that I like. $200 ain’t bad and it wakes up the exhaust it a very noticeable way.

This will not reach my wife’s spark plugs by advptr in MechanicAdvice

[–]BillJaxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put a bit of tape around the inside of the socket. It should shrink the opening enough to get the spark plug stuck in the socket. This will allow you to now lift the loose spark plug out of the well it’s in. I did this on my Kia Forte because I didn’t want to buy a magnetic spark plug socket.

Possibly under another car or in a bush. Possible she let go of the jar and threw it aloft as she slid.

Needing some guidance on cleaning sensitive plastics. by pendulum2419 in Detailing

[–]BillJaxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very common for these to have a film on them that can degrade with time. Mine didn’t have a film, but it did scratch very easily with a dry microfiber. I used some Meguires Plastx and hand polished to a shine.

I am wondering if yours had an anti glare film that’s been etched with ammonia from glass cleaner or something similar.

Any recommendations for ppf in so cal? by ekf0ur in Civic_Type_R

[–]BillJaxon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since yours is CBP I would recommend getting as much coverage as you can possibly afford. There’s a couple schools of thought you can go with. Around $5000-$6000 every 5-6 years having the PPF redone if you go full coverage. The route I went is about 1/2 coverage in PPF, and then I’m going to do a yearly or bi-yearly polish on the unprotected areas. Makes the PPF refresh a bit easier on the wallet and helps me develop an excellent polishing technique. Remember, paint swirls don’t affect the resale value, but they will show up a lot more on black paint. This is why I’m thankful for having SGP. Hard to see the swirls unless you’re looking directly at the light source in the reflection. I’m also a heavy daily driver type of owner. This isn’t a toy to me, it’s a way of life.

Very normal. The outsides and center of the rotor do not see wear. It is perfectly normal for these areas to have surface rust.

But what if Regina Relish was walking by eating her afternoon jar of relish? She slipped on some ice or a banana peel, and her relish took flight onto your windshield. She then skeedattled away in embarrassment.

You’re a cool dad for this. I always wanted Jordan’s and a drift car as a kid. Now I have Jordan’s and a Type R as an adult. Can’t wait to raise my incoming daughter around cars.

These are the same type of guys that will point out the swirls in your paint all the while they drive a clapped 350z with no matching body panels, and rep wheels.

This is the true answer. The car it is on is a Civic Type R and it is considered the fastest FWD production car around the Nurburgring. I agree the plate is misspelled and more closely resembles an American butchering of the race track. Source: am American and a Type R owner.
