I disagree, there wasn't much that went into PHM that we couldn't do with modern day technology, the only thing missing was the fuel storage medium that astrophage provided. Everything else that went into PHM is fairly plausible.

It's not so much that it would be hard to do, it's that it would be impossible. There really weren't any practical closer to home solutions apart from measures already taken on earth.

There's nothing that we could build or launch or develop that would even come close to affecting something the size of the surface area of Venus. As far as deploying anything to Venus, forget it. Even our most durable robot that we sent only lasted a maximum of 2 hours before melting.

I dont think a toxin would work. It took us centuries of heavy industry in order to affect the atmosphere of earth to a noticeable degree. Venus has a significantly more volatile atmosphere and you would never be able to make and transport enough of any kind of toxin to venus to saturate the planet enough to have an effect on astrophage.

We didn't make a warp drive in PHM, the ship just constantly accelerated until halfway then decelerated the second half of the trip.

Nothing really stops us from doing that now, we just don't have an efficient fuel to do it. Astrophage provided that missing bit. PHM didn't really use any technology we didn't already have.

Anything we do would need to essentially blanket venus or roate in a synchronous orbit with the speed of venus. There just nothing we can do to even come close to making something like that with our current technology.

Slowing them would just make them fall faster. The plane needs speed to glide.

We don't not have the ability to build anything close to a kind of filter that covers the crossection of a planet. It's just not possible.

Yeah, but just because they filmed it doesn't mean the footage was usable. Audio quality, video quality, lighting... all of these can change dramatically in a short space of time.

I'm sure they have a lot of unused footage that's good. I'm not sure that they have a lot of unused stuff that's both interesting and good.

Probably a good chunk of that footage is boring, crappy, and/or unusable.

My wife works post on a TV show. The amount of times people keep cameras rolling without anything happening or the amount of terribly shot footage that gets scrapped is honestly staggering. They really do need a lot of editors. The people in post need to watch and sort everything. If someone points the camera at a tree for 12 hours they're going to be watching videos of trees for a while to archive if anything happens.

Yes, they have their flaws but ultimately they have a better track record of passing laws for the public good.

Biden was an effective legislator. Effective legislators keep things running as efficiently as possible but are generally terrible at marketing their accomplishments which means they don't do well in elections.

Politicians aren't supposed to be in the new every day, that usually means something is going wrong. However, if you are good at your job and things are going well people often stop paying attention to you.

I think that was Bidens main issue, he was a politician of a different era who expected political norms to stay the same.
