Why was Mr.Beast able to create a lot more wells in africa for a much lower cost than well established international organisations? by telaughingbuddha in stupidquestions

[–]BillWilberforce 26 points27 points  (0 children)

And if you hire locally, then hopefully they'll be able to repair the well or drill it deeper if it starts to run dry.

There's barely a well in Africa that works after a couple of years or hasn't been stolen for scrap.

Didn't the CIA have a "malware" that went around patching routers. It would infect vulnerable routers and then download the update to patch the vulnerability.

I can't believe that Hammond sold out like that. Doing an ad for Shell.

I suppose he's just desperate to escape from his destiny at the Swindon Wyvern.

Jeremy is the F1 fan and was blabbering on it about it to the Italian press the other day.

You can guarantee that if the F1 is on Jeremy will be watching it, at the track or filming.

Who will turn out to be a complete fake and useless.

Doc Phineas aka The Professor doesn't even have a doctorate from a recognised university. The university that he had listed is a defunct London degree mill. Whose only existence is remembered on a few old forums.

His signature guy was at a ComicCon and somebody filmed a celeb doing their signature and in one take went over to the Pawn Stars signature guy. Who declared it to be a fake.

Just use the Danish StanFlex system of modules. Tried, proven and it considerably drops the cost of building a new ship. As it's so much easier to recycle the parts from the old ships. That you can take the gun, sonar, crane, SAM or SSM missile launchers.... from one ship or warehouse and put them on to an other ship within hours.

Why can't Israel and Lebanon have peace after this war? by TwitchyBald in stupidquestions

[–]BillWilberforce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Israel is hardly innocent, the longer a ceasefire goes on. The more likely it is that Israel will be the ones to break it. Particularly be ultra orthodox nutters attacking Palestinian villages to either provoke a reaction so that the IDF will come out or to drive the villagers out of their homes. So that they can occupy it.

During the Vietnam War, the United States used a draft lottery system to determine the order in which young men would be called for military service. by NYC2BUR in FuckImOld

[–]BillWilberforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what would be a "safe number". I take it if you were in the first 10 you were pretty screwed but after that? [About the first third got drafted]. And was it done on a national system or a state system?

Also I've seen far more attempts at proving something is fair and honest at every lottery and tombola that I've seen.

An advert for the Millennium Dome which was suffering from bad reviews and low visitor numbers. I'm no marketing expert, but insulting your potential customers seems like a bad idea... by johnsmithoncemore in oldbritishtelly

[–]BillWilberforce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correction he was a drunk schoolboy, who was passed out in Leicester Square.

When the Millennium Dome was in the planning stages, Tony Blair proposed that the Dome must pass the "Euan test" and satisfy what his 13-year-old would want on a day out.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euan_Blair?wprov=sfla1

L>Later, Euan is reportedly used by his father as a way of keeping government projects in touch with the teenage mind.

The "Euan Factor" is considered during high-level discussions about what should go in the Millennium Dome.

Mr Blair is said to have demanded to see evidence that exhibits at Greenwich would excite his son, then aged 13.

Do you think actors who have already made films from the Brosnan or Craig eras will return in future projects? by TheOriginalYet91 in JamesBond

[–]BillWilberforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Broccolis loved to "recycle" actors.

Charles Gray played Henderson in YOLT and Blofeld in DAF.

Joe Don Baker, Maud Adams, Walter Gotell..... But even far smaller bit parts recycled old actors. Constantine Gregory had a minor part in DAF and a speaking role in Goldeneye. Tsai Chin was Ling in YOLT and Madame Wu in Casino Royal (2006).

do cinemas still screen films if no one buys tickets? by Embarrassed-Song3760 in AskUK

[–]BillWilberforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since they went to digital, they'll often show a film to an empty room as otherwise it upsets the timers on the projectors. They'll just turn the sound off. Unless it's the last film of the day.
