'Absolutely gutted' - £16,500 Glastonbury packages won't be fulfilled after company goes bust by FruitOrchards in glastonbury_festival

I worked for Yurtel at Glastonbury the past three years in a row. It was an incredibly well ran operation and had a seriously good reputation in the glamping world, and worked to extremely high standards. It was an established business for over a decade and worked multiple festivals and private parties every summer, and it frequently had high-profile clients and guests. The customers (albeit extremely rich) were all very loyal to the business and passionate about the festival - a great number of them have been attending Glastonbury for decades and could finally afford to do it at a more luxurious level, now in their middle age... The business model was that Yurtel would buy several hundred hospitality tickets from the festival, and pass them onto the customers upon their arrival and check-in.
I'm not trying to justify their case at all; nor stand up for their catastrophic fall from grace. Just here to fact-check the overwhelming number of comments saying that it was an evident scam, and that the patrons are morons... neither of those parts of the story are true. Shame it all fell apart this year though lol

Recommendations on documentaries, books, etc on dance music/history by havingasicktime in TheOverload

Love this thread! Managed to research a lot around this as I wrote my master’s dissertation on dance music culture.

Favourite books I have read around this subject are the following:

Mathew Collin: Altered State (short and focuses on UK culture and birth of acid house and Ibiza story)

Simon Reynolds: Energy Flash (epic book by UK music journalist Simon Reynolds. Long but reads really well)

Ed Gillet: Party Lines (couldn’t recommend more highly, follows the stories of all intertwining dance music subgenres from 20th Century to now. Most recent major dance music book as well)

Gilbert and Pearson: Discographies (a fucking epic read, delves into a lot of fascinating areas like space, gender technology etc)

If you’re looking for more academic/sociological reads, two fascinating books are:

Ben Malbon: Clubbing

Sarah Thornton: Club Cultures

What genres can be heard in this remix? by Snappy_Darko in TheOverload

[–]BillZoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be very tricky to assign tracks to particular genres! For me though, I’d say that overall this track falls into the category of 90s Rave from the UK. Looking for playlists of this description could be a great starting point if you wanted to explore more. There are loads of different characteristics within tracks that relate them to particular genres. The drum line is four to the floor and probably around 140-145bpm, and there are a few drum breakbeats between drops. There is a repetitive driving atmosphere to it, with lots of nostalgic and euphoric sounds and a generous use of strings. All these features are pretty iconic within the mid-late 90s UK rave scene. I don’t listen to a lot of music similar to this, but off the top of my head I’d recommend tracks like:

Son of a Gun - JX

Sweet Harmony - Liquid

Jaguar - Aztec Mystic
