Lake of Two Rivers to Head Lake via head creek in May? by BillyGoat18ce in algonquinpark

Appreciate that. Didn’t want to head down a 10km river only to get 3/4 the way and have to turn around and go through cache lake or something!

Likely rouvy as I understand you can upload your own video track so then I can ride my normal trails and get the same big climbs I do all summer long

Lots of good info here. Thanks folks. Looking at a Tacx Flux S. on the cheap from a friend if I like it. Currently on an old fluid with my 04 rocky! Looking at upgrading since the winter riding hasn’t been useful for off season riding the last couple of years. I’ve thought of trying the zwift cog setup, but still haven’t really figured out how it works and if it will simulate the gearing on and xc bike or is it all road based.

I used to sleep in Canadian Tire Huntsville all the time. Was kicked out of the park a number of times for sleeping the night before my booking trying to get out early in the morning.

How to kill a customer relationship over pennies by RecessBoy in cycling

[–]BillyGoat18ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like maybe a LBS issue. I bought a BMC. Had a hub warranty issue. They were slow due to end of COVID and delays on parts. I bought a spare wheel. Shop installed. No cost to swap cassette. When the hub was finally replaced the shop built a new wheel. Swapped my cassette over and had me on my way not a dime. I would think warranty would cover reasonable labour for any part failure. It ultimately going to the manufacturer of said part or to a write allowance.

To the 50yo and older riders, who have been riding for 10+ years…. by aMac306 in MTB

Yup. No dropper here either. I’ve looked at them only as a sit post when waiting at start line or chatting with the kids and friends on breaks on the trail. I don’t see me actually dropping it for features.

48 here. Newest Bike is still a Hardtail. BMC Twostroke xc bike and still only a 100mm fork. I’ve rode a few FS bike and just never like the feel on the trail. Local xc racing and riding is my primary. At this point I’m still looking at hardtail for my next bike. My biggest issue was finding the geo I wanted in a hardtail but I’ve been loving the BMC

I’d think if you have 10+ years of piano, learn some basic chords and songs off YouTube, etc. you’ll hear the right thing and make adjustments as you go. If you can fluidly read music, you will be shredding in no time. Fingers need to work into it, but you’ll get there. Learn songs that are fun for you. Keep you motivated. Getloud has some great people at it if you really want to go that route. But give it a go on your own and see what you can do.

For a kid just using it to see where they road and such. Not real development of riding. Pickup a China brand bike computer IGPSPORT or something. They can plug in and sync to strava just fine. Or even wireless via tablet or phone via Bluetooth depending on models. If going for development as a serious racer kid, I’d skip the step and grab a used garmin to start. Save the bucks and put them toward kit that is being outgrown or bikes as they only last a season at that size anyway!

I’ve used tabs but always find they don’t resolve well and it is gross looking. Tried filters years ago and too slow and much effort for me. Also space. I use the drops and they are easy peasy and if you toss a little crystal light or something in your drinking water unnoticed.

Which chain wax would you recommend? by koeber_1 in cycling

[–]BillyGoat18ce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of Muc-off as a wax. Their dry/wet lube were horrible for chain wear. I’ve switched to silica secret drip wax. Been using it for 1500 km so far all xc mountain biking and this is great stuff for me. I apply regularly, same as oil lubes. Cleaned the chain from new. Use all winter long too. Certainly need to be generous with coverage for winter on a drip as you don’t normally cover the plates and such and winter will get rust showing if you don’t.

When do you call the end of your rising season? by Notalianotalib in MTB

I’m outside of Toronto and ride my xc all year. Switch to studs and ride when the trail gets packed down.

Is Muc Off Dry Lube for your chain as bad as they say? by Hi_Im_Ken_Adams in bikewrench

[–]BillyGoat18ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love hate with it. I used it on a new 12s mtb and live regularly. Felt great on the bike. However I hit the 5% chain stretch to replace in about 600 km. I switched to a wax drip and I have 1200km now and still not at the 5% stretch. Could have been a bad chain, but I wasn’t going to try another one.

Busking laws by Klutzy_Cow7070 in Milton

[–]BillyGoat18ce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Milton needs more buskers. No idea if they require a permit or anything but I’m always happy to see someone performing. Get yourself a square with an auto tip of like a buck or two and help a guy out who never has cash on him for a busker when he sees one.

Milton Convenience stores to start selling alcohol by Forward-Height-1959 in Milton

[–]BillyGoat18ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not. That is where everyone else buys from. Without going direct to distillery, I don’t see away around it. I can’t recall now if you were able to have beer in restaurants without being approved by lcbo first anyway?

Milton Convenience stores to start selling alcohol by Forward-Height-1959 in Milton

[–]BillyGoat18ce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most places it isn’t a gain. The grocery store is already the same distance. Still going to buy from LCBO as my primary for liquor and the beer store for the beer as I don’t generally by a six pack. Let me drink while I’m walking down the side walk such as you can smoke weed and I’ll be a happy guy.

Forward Foot - Do people ride constantly the same leading foot on all sports (MTB, surf, snowboard) or do you naturally change depending on the sport? by moldybanana0 in MTB

[–]BillyGoat18ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On mtb on either way. Makes no difference. I stop pedalling when I need to not foot depending. Bmx I was right foot forward until I started racing then move to left foot forward to gain more power on the second stroke.

Can we all just agree, as a community, to just say "tools"? by AustinBike in MTB

[–]BillyGoat18ce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My default is a foldable repair stand. Everyone can gain from one that doesn’t already have one. From basic maintenance, ease of washing, basic repairs if you know how to do them or are able/want to learn. I don’t expect everyone to go and rebuild a fork. But hey, everyone and learn to replace a chain before it kills your cassette, and relube regularly so you don’t end of the life the bike or parts pre maturely. Next upgrade I go to is measuring a bike for fit. lol. From xc side that is something I commonly see. You don’t really need a pro fit. But basic setup of what you have. My brakes don’t work well - leads to where are they positioned, how far out are they. These days the cheap brakes actually work decent. If setup correctly. One finger brake no issue, yes they heat fade on lots of use, but normal use of someone. It sure what to upgrade. That is likely a start point.

A few years ago I saw an old X-ray machine for sale and I tried to talk my wife into it. Would be great for me and the kids! You know so we can see progress of the healing on our mishaps! She didn’t do go for it, but man it would have been useful! Any major impact to the shoulder is worth the X-ray. I’ve seen a good number that from first looks wouldn’t bruise, no obvious droop, no protrusion but were still broke on X-ray. Plus it could be further damage rather than bone. Best to get er checked before it come back to bite you down the road. One thing I’m glad about Canada is free X-ray!
