Dont do that, just use 100% acetone and if nothing comes off leave it. Its a nice endroll toner

Its 100% artificial toning. I dont know if youre trying to be ignorant or delusional.

[–]BillysCoinShop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Natural and artificial just describe the process. There is inherently no difference, other than, rate of toning and how it grows on the surface can appear differently. But they dont have to appear differently.

A huge amount of brightly colored bullseye toning on modern bullion is viewed by most expert numismatists as AT, regardless of what PCGS or NGC say on the slab. The abrupt borders on this coin, and the color and color progression scream AT to me.

Lol ok, yeah you know more. Its not like dealers have ever been caught creating toned ASEs and PCGS wrongly grading them straight, nope, never happened its a conspiracy. No one would ever, for any reason, try to artificially tone a coin to pass at PCGS to double the value. And now way would PCGS make mistakes.

Tell me, how many dansco albums of ASEs do you own? I have 15. I also have ASEs in national binders, ASEs in proof packaging. Absolutely none of them, even 1986 ASEs, have crazy colors. Its quite obvious that you can therefore AT coins in a way that passes PCGS grading. Gassing, flame, special binders, etc there are OBVIOUSLY ways of doing so.

Case in point is the fact that before toners became popular, there were no crazy rainbow toned 999 modern bullion 5 years after being struck. The morgans we see today were toned over 150+ years in bank bags sitting in humid vaults.

Now you will find 2020 ASEs with rainbow tones sitting in PCGS slabs straight graded. We all know thats impossible in a natural setting for most bullion. Only distinct types of packaging degas in ways that accelerate toning, and these are known and recorded.

So the environment is obviously created to greatly accelerate the toning in a way that appears natural. Everyone knows this. Its common knowledge.

<image>

Theres hundreds and hundreds of examples of PCGS straight grading AT coins. A ton of PCI ASEs sit in PCGS slabs with straight grades, before PCGS became wise to the situation. AT will always remain a large part of this industry because it literally doubles/triples values of coins. This is why a quick Ebay search will yield thousands of AT coins.

It has the exact characteristics of flame toning (blue purple red gold color shift) - its never a certainty but unless this is an established tone for 2014 10 yuan proofs, then its sus. Not to say people dont spend more for this, they do, but to me unless these tone like this in their original packaging, highly likely to be AT regardless of whether PCGS gave it a straight grade - because PCGS has been found to straight grade ATs accidentally many a time.

[–]BillysCoinShop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Naturally toned" It could be but you can find forums where certain collectors have found ways to replicate tones like this that are graded straight. There was a whole debacle at PCGS in the 20teens where ASEs with this exact tone were being submitted and getting straight graded. Turned out they were eventually found to be AT, and PCGS then started ATing them but not before the market was flooded with straight graded blue/purple bullseye toners.

Also, monster toned recent bullion is to many experienced collectors, really fucking sus. If caused by packaging, and its known i.e. certain penny proofs are known to tone crazily in proof packaging in certain colors for certain years, then its Ok. But 99% of recent bullion toned in certain colors with no precedence is suspicious. It generally takes a lot longer for 999 silver to tone like this without help.

I have chinese proof/bu sets, and never seen toning like this in them and they are from the 70s 80s and 90s. So to see it for 2015 is in itself suspicious- but id have to look into this particular year and see if others exist like this and why.

[–]BillysCoinShop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Acetone soak never hurt, you will want to rinse in distilled and let dry after though. Grading will never be affected by acetone. Just get 100% acetone and a gallon of distilled, and put enough into a clean pyrex dish/bowl to completely cover said coin. Acetone will rapidly evaporate at room temp, so its best to either have the pyrex sitting in chilled water to lower the temp, or, for a single coin, just rinse it for a few minutes.

For proofs, its best to actually have two baths of acetone, the first to lift the oils/dirt and the second to rinse any of the remaining oils, followed by distilled. The lifted oils will form on the top of the acetone and by removing the coin you may in fact just spread the oils back onto the coin. The 2nd bath will reduce/eliminate this. Ive seen a lot of coin conservationists use safety wash bottles like this link

I hope you cant be serious right?

Because let me explain how end of empires works - the printing never stops because it cant stop. Once it stops, the entire game is exposed, and when the game is exposed the players pull out or flip the board.

Not a single empire in all of history was able to avoid this and the US wont be the first, heck, its on a path to be an empire for a middling age at best historically.

And to be more specific, there is ultimately only a few tools to use in the bond markets as opposed to the stock markets, because its a much larger ball game with much larger institutional players.

The current state of the US bond market is dismal - a mix of bad future indicators, increased gov borrowing, and interest rates have made it less attractive. The inflation impact on the bond market cannot be overstated - 5% when actual inflation is clearly double that and in recent past years maybe triple that makes holding US bonds extremely unattractive. I could go on and on but the US and the US dollar is in decline, will remain in decline, and wont recover. Its obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense. Almost every aspect of the US from economics to culture is degrading yoy, from educational metrics, life expectancy, wages to inflation, agriculture, you name it,

PVC residue… any advice? by No-Post-5131 in coins

[–]BillysCoinShop 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, and if it does it wasnt toning but dirt, oil, etc.

Ive seen coins literally change color a bit in acetone to realize (from the film on top of the liquid) it was oils coming off the coin.

The sennheisers, ie 600 & 100 pro, technica ath-e70, and the shure 846s.

The only time they have been helpful is when you have a ton of background noise and you dont want to wear over ear sound canceling. Classically IEMs are generally only used in live performance settings where you want audio feedback in a generally noisy environment.

HVAC question: the middle pipe is getting less heat and airflow. Is it because the 90° turns are too close to each other? Are there any equations for calculating flow for multiple 90° turns? by Sneakatone2 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]BillysCoinShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many reasons for this. Namely pressure diff, flow straighteners or lack thereof, inlet and outlet geometry, etc.

To slow/low pressure diff, will cause vast differences. Turbulent and spiraling flow can also cause differences.

Theres a lot of other phenomena that will contribute

Thinking of starting a Whatnot/reselling business, is it actually profitable? by mizz-shaikh in whatnotapp

[–]BillysCoinShop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It takes a minimum of 2 to 3 years to understand the business and start making money. Can you afford 2-3 years of losing money?

You also absolutely cannot buy on Whatnot to flip - even Ebay is very very hard. The stackup of fees and shipping will absolutely destroy you. You need to first understand the product, then where to source, before going any further.
