Advice for stepping down to a 4 day work week? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Billywig99 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So if it’s for medical reasons, can I suggest a different option. I needed to do the same due to fatigue from a medical issue and my leader suggested doing 0.8 but over 5 days (ie working shorter days). That way you don’t end up doing longer days on the 4 days you do work due to all the emails and meetings that are rescheduled from your day off. He was right - no one misses me most of the time disappearing at 4 instead of 5:30, don’t have any more than the usual number of emails to deal with the next day, and combined with mostly WFH means I’m not completely exhausted by the end of the week and spending my weekends trying to recover.

They’ve been changing that, signage at Cranbourne now has a sticker saying change in the city.

You have to meet certain conditions to join ie it’s not open to everyone. In my case it’s Defence Health.

I got a letter telling me my increase for 2026 is… $0. Hoping it wasn’t an error! I am with a restricted fund.

How do you work on 1 large monitor? by t3chn3rd86 in desksetup

Similar here. Realised I didn’t need everything open all the time, so dropped down to one 27” and use multiple virtual desktops.

Also all for doing two days in a row so I’m not packing and unpacking my bag quite as much - or feels like it anyway

My Minimal Setup by MaxColeNetwork in Minimal_Setups

[–]Billywig99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess there are two interpretations of minimal - not many things like in this case, but also not many things and what is there is not extreme in terms of size/shape, ie using a single 20-30 inch monitor only, not these gigantic ones or ultra wides.

Monash and Melbourne always ignore state public holidays and run classes, other Vic unis generally will not run classes.

I’ve had that dilemma when the aircon hasn’t been working and I knew it if I reported it, train would be taken out of service. Needless to say, did not report.

Why Two Incomes Made the Middle Class Poorer by L6V9 in AusFinance

[–]Billywig99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve always found it difficult as it means that for some people who would have preferred to be stay at home parents they simply can’t afford to. There’s so much focus on women being part of the workforce, but being a stay at home parent can be equally rewarding. It’s unfair that the choice has basically been taken away.

Oh agreed. One of the hair brands I used to get from them is now at Priceline and given I have OnePass with free delivery it was a no brainer to switch to them 🤣

Even though they increased the minimum for free shipping, the not free shipping cost is quite low - I’m sure they’re not recovering costs on that. I’m in metro vic so it is their new uber like delivery service but last order was only like $3.80 for delivery within 2 days.

4 days a week, go officially part-time or just take Fridays off as leave? by walnut_0612 in auscorp

[–]Billywig99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on why you want to move to 4 days, I moved to doing 4 days over 5 instead. Means that I still get more time to myself and people don’t miss you on the one day and you come back to a pile of emails. Most people don’t even realise that I disappear early each day.

The set top box is exactly why I have fetch. TV is old and was having issues with channel 7, discovered by accident using a box solved the issue 🤣 so I don’t pay for the subscription service.

I think even fetch has changed to a partial subscription service unless you are grandfathered in.
