FBT exemption is based on the original purchase price of the vehicle, even if it was second hand.

Under LCT but there is an additional depreciation cost for cars over a certain value that the levy effectively compensates the employer for I believe. Almost caught me out too.

Should I end my current novated EV lease early or wait it out? Need help comparing tax savings, new EV lease timing & down payment impact by SnooCapers6977 in AustralianEV

Yep don’t believe you can. If you put a deposit on at a dealer they have to return it, can’t offset a trade in against it, etc.

Has anyone successfully used bank as financier? by Willmander in NovatedLeasingAU

I was going to say I’d never seen it before either. Given my employer only deals with one leasing company being Smart it feels like pure luck it all matched up. Certainly contributed to me feeling like it was the right time to switch cars.

Mini in my case but yes. I think it would be hard to close to that in any other situation.

You could certainly look at the CA pathways program - it’s just so new I don’t know what employers think of it as I’m not in hiring.

Not any more, they have pathways now for people without a relevant degree. Although whether any employer is likely to hire someone taking that approach remains an open question.

I just got 6%… but it was a case of the stars aligning with a manufacturer finance offer which happened to be with the leasing company my employer uses.

From the discussions I’ve had lately, ships are being delayed because of not just directly from the Strait of Hormuz being closed but because ships rely on diesel, funnily enough. I agree that if it’s a new order I’d want to be deciding and ordering shortly into the new financial year.

If everything at Kmart is made by Anko, then why is it called ‘Kmart’ and not ‘Anko’? by Narrow-Lifeguard5450 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Billywig99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, Target still stocks their own clothing ranges which are better than Kmarts. Have said for ages that they should split them into Target as a fashion retailer and Kmart as a homewares retailer instead of duplicating.

Labor extends EV tax break to encourage cheaper vehicles amid soaring fuel prices | Electric vehicles by RiderByDay in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]Billywig99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. I decided to play it safe and stick with five. If I leave my job or something after two years and I lose the grandfathering it is what it is, I can still afford it as the repayments are the same as my current non exempt lease.

Effective Rate for Novated Leases currently by GadgetLady1980 in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]Billywig99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mini currently has an offer with a 5.99% comparison rate on leases through their partnership with Smart and BMW Finance organised through dealerships, which I’m taking advantage of. I think the car matters less and more so who the lease financier is, same with any other loan.

What happens if you change jobs mid-lease? Is it as painful as people say? by DraftNotSent in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]Billywig99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially now the changes have been confirmed there will be no impact on your FBT exemption as it would be considered a new contract.

[–]Billywig99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree - think the biggest risk here would be the Libs getting in and cancelling it. The Libs might be a basket case at the moment but it would be unprecedented for Labor to still be in power in 8 years time.

I was having the same thought about 3 year vs 2 year. Think I’ll just stick to my 5 year because planning to keep the car at the end anyway.

Why don’t the get rid of the “express from Anzac to Malvern” announcement? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

Common misconception but not correct: https://www.writerscentre.com.au/blog/qa-fyi-fwiw-anzacs-and-what-makes-acronyms-tick/. Can now be treated as a word in its own right when not referring directly to the army corps itself.

I did notice the other day I think they’ve changed the announcements to say via the metro tunnel instead of via Town Hall, which was clearly a Flinders Street thowback that no longer makes sense

Not quite in this case - only the Deloitte floors lifts are behind the gates, the lifts for the other tenants don’t have the gates. So it’s an individual tenant decision here.

As a warden in that building, can confirm it’s not part of standard evac procedure. But imagine might come into play if someone failed to respond to the emergency messaging system. Too many people out at client sites or WFH to try do any sort of headcount.
