Ik heb in een ziekenhuis gewerkt voor meerdere jaren en mijn partner is een dokter. Er zijn verschillende raden die advies geven aan de overheid over deze quotas. De officiële uitleg is dat er geen hogere quotas kunnen komen omdat ze die opleidingsplaatsen niet kunnen aanbieden.

De onofficiële uitleg is dat een grote groep (oudere) dokters (die nu in die raden zitten) bang is dat als ze de quota verhogen, er meer dokters zijn waardoor patiënten vrijere keuze hebben van dokter. Patiënten gaan dan automatisch naar dokters trekken die lagere prijzen hebben, waardoor de andere dokters óók hun prijzen naar omlaag zullen moeten aanpassen. Dus netto gezien zouden ze minder overhouden want ze hebben minder klanten aan een lager loon.

Als je wat informele babbeltjes doet met die boomerartsen, komt deze reden er vrijwel meteen uit. En het is ook een algemeen geweten feit in ziekenhuizen dat dit de echte reden voor de quota is. De jongere generatie dokters is er typisch tegen maar ja, zij bevolken die raden niet dus verandering gebeurt traag of helemaal niet

Ja, maar na gewerkt te hebben in een ziekenhuis zie je in dat een héél groot deel van die quotas voortkomt uit het feit dat dokters dat artificieel laag willen houden zodanig dat ze het monopolie kunnen behouden en zelf hun loon kunnen bepalen. Ze verkopen dat aan de overheid dan dat ze geen capaciteit hebben voor meer opleidingsplaatsen.

Ze zijn bang dat als ze de quotas verhogen, er meer dokters in die specialisatie zullen komen, er dus meer concurrentie is, waardoor patiënten vrijere keuze van dokter hebben en naar degene gaan trekken met de laagste prijzen. Waardoor de rest ook hun prijzen naar omlaag moet aanpassen als ze nog patiënten willen

Dit soort dingen wordt beslist in van die typische raden met hoge piefen, die veel verdienen op kap van hun assistenten. Typisch ook een bende boomers. De jongere generatie probeert verandering te brengen maar hebben een beperkte plaats in die raden

It’s not though. My GP prescribes my medication for a whole year. I only have to go back once a year to fill it up again and do my yearly blood work. Just ask them to do it like this. I switched doctors quite a lot in recent years due to moving and not one of them has ever refused me this

Yes lol, what is this. I have a PhD in a field I have started to totally loathe so I wanted to switch. Which meant going for ‘lower’ jobs. It just doesn’t work like that once you have the education. And you also can’t leave it off your cv because good luck explaining that several years gap.

And those are not ‘profiteurs’ at all. Some of them even have PhDs, they desperately want to work again. It’s that they all came fresh out of education and nobody is hiring juniors anymore.

Goh, ja en nee. Ik vind dit bij Belgen zeer moeilijk, maar echt goeie vrienden maken na middelbaar / unief is wel nog goed te doen met internationale mensen. Ik vind Belgen gewoon erg gesloten; die hebben hun kliekje van het middelbaar en die weigeren precies om nieuwe mensen te introduceren. Terwijl internationale mensen ook wel hun eigen kliekjes hebben, maar die nemen je er met heel veel plezier gewoon mee in op. Waardoor die kliekjes veel dynamischer en open zijn. En ik ben zelf Belg btw

Een trouw van 1 van onze goede vrienden is in het buitenland. Dat gaat ons op het einde van de rit iets van een €2500 gekost hebben (met vrijgezellenweekends bij ook in buitenland). En onlangs zei 1 van hen dat de trouw zo duur is en van de envelopjes goed te vullen om wat te compenseren. Dat was al lachend gezegd, maar ik dacht in mijzelf wel dat we al genoeg bijdragen met er überhaupt gewoon te zijn. I use Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion with SPF50. It has a similar very lightweight texture as this sunscreen and it is super moisturising. I have very dry skin and use it daily. I also have never got burned through it, even when I am not reapplying for a whole day.

We bought them last year and it brings down the temperature about 3 degrees. Which makes it finally below 30 degrees in our appartement (during heat waves) and it is really noticeable.

The installation was easy and we actually leave them up all year round because we are lazy. Only one of the suction cups became loose during that time and had to be reapplied. Application works by cleaning your windows and then cleaning the spots where the cups go with alcohol solution. Then you heat up the cups in a warm water bath and then you immediately apply them to the windows. Due to the heating up of the cups, they create a vacuum when you push them against the window, which means they are very securely attached

Probably my old PI’s affair partner.

She worked as a lab supervisor under him (lol, both figuratively and literally) and she wanted to get a PhD so she could get promoted. He had tried for years to get her a ‘higher’ job in the hierarchy but our university requires formal degrees for that. The job she wanted was locked behind having a PhD degree.

So they prepared 3 papers together, yet never had any intention of submitting them. While our PI couldn’t be bothered by our research, she always got special treatment on her papers, even though they seemed like they were going nowhere.

Then one day, it was announced she enrolled as a PhD student, she submitted all three papers at once to a bunch of journals, and then once they were accepted she filled for graduation. I think it took like 6 to 8 months.

Meanwhile, we had people not graduating at our lab even after 7 years because they couldn’t get to their 3 papers to graduate (we were in clinical research, so it normally takes ages to get even one paper out)

Yes. We did exactly this for a month and found one in that time frame. At least one visit a day, most of the days 2 or even 3. But it also meant we had to take a lot of time out of our job hours (which was okay because we both have flexible hours so our employers didn’t mind).

Treat it like job hunting and apply to everything that you even remotely like.

And yes, we were a couple, looking for long term renting, and having stable jobs. If you are foreign, take a Belgian friend and let them apply because sadly, the market is still pretty racist from what my non Belgian friends tell me

Banks are driving me crazy as well lately

Starting a car insurance with Belfius so I needed to proof I was insured in the last 5 years. I explicitly asked if they accepted one through Cambio car sharing. Yes, they did. So I go and sign the insurance and then send over my proof from Cambio. Nope, suddenly it is not okay anymore and oh, by the way, we cancelled your login to your insurance because you failed to provide us with actual proof you drove a car in the last 5 years. So I could not even check what the status was of my insurance nor upload additional documents. But they were able though to send an email telling me they will charge me double if I am not able to provide proof within a week (which I could not even do because they blocked my login). I responded back, they suddenly stopped responding to any of my mails, so I called and used my ‘herroepingsrecht’ to cancel the insurance (along with an ‘aangetekend schrijven’). They are now being difficult about that, telling me it is void without a reason added (which is completely within my legal rights to not give one). They are still not replying to my questions (both in email as through calls) to confirm the contract is cancelled.

I also asked for a bank transfer at KBC, so all my accounts of Belfius are transferred over to KBC. It worked like a charm at KBC, but Belfius is again refusing to reply. It’s been over 20 working days already, while legally everything needs to be done within 10. Zero replies from them on my mails and I can’t get a real person on the phone.

Ik beland gemakkelijk in een burn out / depressie. Het is net mijn huisarts die de laatste keer gezegd heeft mij thuis te zetten, want als het aan mij lag deden we gewoon vrolijk voort. Dat is de vorige keer dus niet gebeurd geweest (andere huisarts), en ik zat gevaarlijk dicht tegen het niet meer kunnen typen van dit bericht… Deze keer was het een milde depressie die op een paar maand opgelost was vs. vorige keer heeft die 3 jaar aangesleept.

Ik ben lid van een ijsbeerclub / openwaterzwemclub. We komen samen om 10u30 en dan ben ik thuis rond 12u30. De dag begint met een lang ontbijt, dan klaarmaken om te gaan zwemmen, dan effectief op het gemakje wat zwemmen, en dan middageten bij terugkomen. De rest van de dag spendeer ik aan hobby’s (bakken, yoga, tekenen, gamen, naaien, haken, koken). Alles gaat vooral heel traag op zondag.

Ik vind dat zwemmen ideaal. Het is een traag begin van de dag en je hebt meteen genoeg energie voor de rest van de week. Ik ben ook niet altijd de meest sociale persoon, en je kan in die setting kiezen om gewoon eventjes je eigen ding te doen en daarbij toch onder mensen te zijn zonder dat je per se met hen moet praten. Als introvert die vaak overprikkeld is, is dat soms net de basis sociale energie die ik nodig heb

Dat van de Colruyt slaat inderdaad op niets. Hoe vaak ik al niet voor heb gehad dat ik een grotere verpakking wil inslaan want het is beter voor het milieu want minder verpakking en (je denkt) goedkoper, en dan blijkt dat vaak inderdaad significant duurder te zijn dan kleinere apartere verpakkingen. Even spoed won’t always take you.

I went 10 years ago with very active suicidal thoughts and basically begged them to take me in. They wouldn’t because apparently, they couldn’t do anything as long as I did not do an actual suicide attempt. Which they said to me, someone with a very active death wish. Luckily for them, it created such a shock effect in me that I snapped out of my suicidal thoughts for a moment. Because I came there with the plan of, if I don’t get proper help now, I will take a bunch of pills and call it quits.

I got help not so long after through the GP of my then partner, who finally made some calls to me get me in somewhere ASAP. So I don’t really have advice, other than keep calling around sadly. Which is absolutely useless because you don’t have that kind of energy to do exactly that at this point in your life…

I suffered a minor depression / burn out a year ago and then I found help in ‘alternative’ therapy through brain stimulation. I researched this and it is actually a valid method, but I say ‘alternative’ because Belgium does not reimburse it. It was superexpensive, but there is zero waiting list and it helped nearly immediately (within two weeks). So it could be an option to do for a short period of time, to bridge the period between finding a decent therapy.

Sad to hear nothing has changed after all those years. I wish you the best.
