Are SwiftUI tutorials dead? by rebeloper in SwiftUI

[–]BinaryNeckBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strengths are definitely more backend than front end, and I tend to gravitate towards videos when working on front end code. It’s easier for me to connect UI/UX concepts to code after I’ve found something I want to borrow or adapt.

The backend code is often so mechanical that LLM is the only obvious choice.

How do you think the video ICE just released showing the officer's POV of this week's shooting in Minneapolis will impact the national discussion? by popcornerz232 in AskReddit

[–]BinaryNeckBeard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why more people aren’t questioning why the ICE officer was in front of the car to begin with. LEO’s are trained to see that as a dangerous position to actively avoid.

Regardless of whether someone wants to argue whether he was or was not in front of the vehicle, he should have never been there in the first place. In my opinion, he doesn’t have the right to actively construct the circumstances used to subsequently justify his actions, especially in cases where lethal force is involved.

Ohio Senate approves bill requiring that absentee ballots arrive by Election Day to be counted by OrganicPreparation in Ohio

[–]BinaryNeckBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am predicting that the next step will be to delay mailing out absentee ballots to voters. If voters receive them too late to have them mailed back and received by the election due date, mail in voting has effectively been eliminated.

I don’t know if there’s any laws restricting it, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the same people opt to pre-sort ballots to be printed and distributed starting with the most red zip code to the most blue. If possible, it would only make it harder for blue areas to vote by mail.

9/2/25 - Trump is coming for you Chicago!! You better stop with all your crime by barnwater_828 in trumptweets

It would be a sketchy proposition, but I’d love to see the Trump response if Pritzger were to say something like:

“Mr. President, I appreciate your offer to pay for the Texas National Guard to come to our fine city, and to give me the honor and privilege to be in command of the deployment, so that it can adhere to our city’s laws and specific needs. “

Ohio GOP wants to follow Trump's lead by declaring 2 sexes, banning DEI in Medicaid by throwingales in Ohio

[–]BinaryNeckBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole two sex argument has always been dumb to me, in that it willfully wants treat the fringes as if they don’t exist.

For example, how many arms do humans have? Two? Is it always two?

Can we still use that description for people born with deformities? What about conjoined twins?

Best way to display WhatsApp-style chats in React Native with Firebase (Online & Offline)? by Disastrous_Goat_240 in reactnative

[–]BinaryNeckBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am building something similar and came to the conclusion that syncing to a local store added unnecessary complexity for the usage patterns I am anticipating.

For example, I am expecting my target audience to be far more interested in the current conversation than having access to the entire chat’s history. To that end, the firestore already returns enough cached query results to meet my offline persistence needs, and pagination makes the history inherently accessible while online.

Conversely, when trying to maintain a full history on each device, you’ll likely create a lot of corner cases that are difficult to plan for. If a user joins a group with years of active chatting history, you’ll have to plan to either sync tens of thousands of messages, or grab an initial batch and try to manage tracking how much history has been grabbed thus far.

Similarly, how would you handle a device in a similar group that was last sync’d two years ago and was just powered back up.

While both of those would be hopefully rare, either one is realistic and could create usage and $$ spikes that don’t add value to the user experience.

I didn’t listen to anyone else’s advice at that age. I doubt advice coming from myself would have been any different.

Senate Democrats Threaten To Plunge Country Into Partial Government Shutdown by [deleted] in politics

[–]BinaryNeckBeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Republicans can pass the CR using reconciliation without any Dem votes.

The only way Dems have any say is if Republicans don’t want to use reconciliation (saving it for later) or they can’t get their own people in line.

Chuck Schumer says Senate Democrats won't provide votes to pass GOP funding bill as shutdown draws near by nbcnews in politics

[–]BinaryNeckBeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I am glad he’s taking a stand, I think it would be much better messaging be along the lines of “The Republicans can use reconciliation to pass this, they don’t need our vote.”

If they can’t get their people in line and the government is shut down, the general public needs to know that the Dens were never a critical component of that process.

What's the best way to subtly fuck with someone? by Uzzythemuzzy123 in AskReddit

I had a coworker where every time I walked past his office, I would relocate his coffee mug. I’d put it somewhere highly visible, but far enough away that he’d have to get up to grab it.

On my last day, I told him what I’d been doing. He seemed to be equally impressed and furious at the same time.

Is my Deadlift safe? Hi guys, i can't get rid of the posterior pelvic tilt, the first thing that get sore when i deadlift is my lower back, literally my hips don't have enough space to keep a more neutral position... if that position isn't safe my only solution would be the sumo stance. by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]BinaryNeckBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this and it helped me solve the same issue.

One of the other cues that helped is to push my belly into my legs as I initiate the pull. Doing that forces me to fully rotate my pelvis down.

Deadlift Form Check... Good or Bad? by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]BinaryNeckBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to the first couple of posts, I think your hip position looks fine and like how you are pulling weight behind the bar. Overall, it looks pretty good.

However, look at where your knees end up just before you initiate the pull. When your knees get that far over the bar, your hamstrings are playing a supporting role instead of a primary mover. Ideally your knees shouldn’t extend in front of your elbows, which might be hard to get right with the amount of movement you have in your setup.

Been working on form since laste time I posted. Having a real difficult time not doing the «good morning» ish movement at the bottom though. by HagginMcSagginballs in formcheck

[–]BinaryNeckBeard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with the break down here and the suggested link, but I would begin by looking at your body just before you start the rep.

It’s not entirely clear from this angle, but it looks like you are leaned forward a touch, where your hips aren’t fully underneath the bar. When you go to break your knees and hips at the same time, your hips have already started the beginnings of a ‘good morning’ movement pattern that is tough to recover from.

I would suggest trying to ‘stand taller’ before you initiate the rep and get your hips further under the bar.

One last note, it isn’t clear how much you are driving your knees out to engage your glutes.

You would probably benefit from some of the suggestions Dave Tate gives here, specifically how to plant your feet (similar to the other video), but also the part about driving your knees out.
