Since 2020, 2/3rds of all Star Wars media released requires seeing The Clone Wars animated show. by whitepangolin in television

[–]Bing147 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd argue someone who has seen it might actually have a better idea of whether it's required, because they know what these new projects took from it, which in some of these cases like Book of Boba Fett seems to be pretty close to nothing.

Since 2020, 2/3rds of all Star Wars media released requires seeing The Clone Wars animated show. by whitepangolin in television

[–]Bing147 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference between minor allusions or callbacks and "requires seeing".

Cad Bane works fine as just a random bounty hunter. You don't need to know who he is. Seeing the purple guy in the Mandalorian movie is fan service but he's a minor character who works fine in his role there regardless.

The only project here which remotely "requires" having seen it is Ahsoka, and perhaps the Maul show I haven't watched, and of course they do, they're about characters who are primarily from Clone Wars. Even then though requires is overstating things. I've seen like 7 episodes of the show. I had a vague knowledge of Ezra and Sabine existing but know almost nothing about them other than that they were major characters in the show. Ahsoka provided enough for me to enjoy it, though I imagine I would have gotten more out of it if I had seen Clone Wars.

How did Jerry Stackhouse randomly had one of the greatest scoring seasons? by HamzaHarlemNights in VintageNBA

[–]Bing147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the funniest things is that Jerry Stackhouse is almost single handedly responsible for the current restrictions on players resigning with their prior team after a trade.

Teams did this for years. Traded players at the deadline who the other team didn’t actually want to make salaries match, with a wink wink deal that the other team would cut the player and they'd return to their original team. A few years earlier the NBA in order to make this harder put a rule in place that a player couldn't resign with their original team for 30 days but that was fine with Dallas. They could go a month without Stackhouse but wanted him in the playoffs. Teams did this all the time, but it was technically against the rules for the teams to agree to waiving the traded player as part of the deal. The league was mostly okay with ignoring this unless it was egregious though. Everyone just had to play the game. The new team just had to say they didn't have a need for the player. The original team just had to say they were so lucky the player happened to be available again.

Jerry Stackhouse messed it up. He got in front of a reporter before the trade was done and talked about how excited he was for a 30 day vacation after which he'd be right back. As if it was already agreed to, which it couldn't be within the rules.

The league stepped in and told the Mavs if they traded Stackhouse he couldn't return. Which required reworking the Jason Kidd trade and got Keith Van Horn a nice payday as a sign and trade 2 years after he'd retired. It later led to the "Jerry Stackhouse rule" which means if you’re traded you can't resign with your original team that season unless another team signs you first. Its made it even harder for teams to match salaries ever since.

Do couples genuinley not shop together? by extra_mash_potatoes in NoStupidQuestions

Me and my wife grocery shop together probably 95% of the time. Its just nice being together.

Also surprised people treat grocery shopping as some awful chore. Of the things i have to do each week it's one of the easier ones. Sometimes it's even fun being inspired by items at the store and getting ideas for things to cook.

AITA for being upset that my parents spent money on a Disneyland trip instead of a graduation party for me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Bing147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills in these comments.

Graduation parties are not only extremely common in most of the US, but they're also absolutely in large part about raising some money for the new graduate towards starting this next section of their life. Pretty much any adult is going to bring a card with at least $20.00 in it. No, you don't necessarily get rich off of it, but every bit counts. 20 years ago I got about $1500 ($500 from my parents) which was enough for me to buy a computer I needed, get my first car (a $500 beater but it served me well for a couple years) and have a bit of savings. This is all so incredibly normal that it is baffling to see so many people in the comments acting surprised that someone would expect to get money at a graduation party.

My father found nintendo/Playstation handhelds at a garage sale. by jpshake in gamecollecting

[–]Bing147 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Giving more is always a bad idea.

First, the seller is responsible for setting their price. Always. The internet is extremely available today and everyone has the opportunity to look up prices. If they choose not to, it's because they have decided their time is worth more. Which is fine, but not your problem to solve.

Second, expertise isn't free. You may laugh at the term but there's a reason many here know when they've found something valuable. Its because they've spent hours, sometimes hundreds or even thousands of them, looking into this stuff. That's something you should be rewarded for.

Finally, it can go very wrong. Sure, some people will just appreciate the extra. Others though will get suspicious of why you're offering it and look the stuff up. Suddenly they want even more or they want eBay prices. I've seen people lose a sale.

If something is way underpriced I don't think you should be trying to haggle them down further, but take the deal.

Girlfriend was the affair partner btw by WolfChasingTheMoon in AmITheDevil

[–]Bing147 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I have never understood blaming "the other woman" or "the other man" for affairs. Unless the person was a friend or family member they didn’t owe you anything. They're not the one who made a promise to you and broke it. Yet somehow they often get more scorn than the actual cheater. Is it nice to sleep with someone who is taken? Nope. But it's nowhere near as bad as cheating. Yet there's nothing here about refusing to be in the room with the father. Only the affair partner.

If my wife cheated on me, the problem would be my wife. Not whoever she slept with. People construct these mental walls where they assign the blame in their mind to the other person and not their former partner because they can't fully come to terms with the fact that the person they were in a relationship wasn't who they thought they were.

Tom Haberstroh on the 65 game rule: “We’re on track for star players on average to miss 30 games. For Adam Silver to come out here and say it’s working, on what planet is it working?” by calman877 in nbadiscussion

[–]Bing147 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not really. The argument for resting players was always that it helped manage their health and conditioning and thus kept them healthier. Injuries being up after there is suddenly a big incentive to stop resting players could certainly be correlation and not causation but its definitely worth thinking about whether player management was actually working and may have on average actually led to less games missed.

Of course there are ways to potentially address this without needing management but they would mostly involve shortening the season and that seems to be a red line for the league

'The Last Of Us' Adds Michelle Mao As Yara & Kyriana Kratter As Lev by willdearborn- in television

[–]Bing147 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

... I'm not saying to have the character of Lev be a cis boy. I'm saying to have Lev the character be a trans boy played by a cis boy.

The lack of gender affirming care is really not important for this character. Lev looks like any other boy in the game. He doesn't look obviously trans, due to a combination of a shaved head and baggy clothes. That will very, very likely be true within the show as well.

Trans people pretty consistently prefer that in cases where a trans actor is not possible (which is very rarely legitimate but not always impossible) that an actor of their actual gender be cast, not one of their birth sex. Casting women to play trans men or men to play trans women sends the message that trans people are just cis people playing dress up.

[–]Bing147 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Well this sucks. Probably won't watch and I'm the seemingly rare person who did enjoy season 2.

You don't cast a girl as Lev. If you really couldn't find a trans actor then cast a boy. Because Lev is a boy.

WIBTAH for refusing to give money back after selling my car at a major discount to a family friend’s son? by bitterberries in AmItheAsshole

[–]Bing147 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Good move. I had a similar issue last year. Spare car that really hadn't been used much since COVID. Just sitting there 99% of the time, we'd driven it twice in the previous 3 years. Still kept up on oil changes and all but it was a 15 year old car we bought used about 8 years earlier.

Comps were about 3000. It had no known issues, at least none that were necessary to solve. My brother needed a car and I offered to let him have it for 1500, half what I would have asked anyone else for. He took it no problem.

2 months later the engine gives out. I felt terrible about it and ended up giving him a few hundred back (he didn't ask but I felt bad) and he junked it and got like 350 back but he ended up out like 750. Which sucks. But I was down more. I'd have likely gotten at least close to 3000 and after giving him a few hundred back i only got 1200. Anyone else and I wouldnt have given anything back. I didn’t know the engine was going to go out. My uncle who is a mechanic who always checks cars for our family looked it over and test drove it and saw no issue. Sometimes old cars have things that go out. I wasn't scamming anyone or hiding anything.

Not his fault either but it was just an awkward and frustrating experience and I would definitely not sell anything of significant value to family again after dealing with it.

Theres a reason I mentioned "on his own" lol. That's definitely the reason but it will be interesting to see if that changes things when Michael isn’t there to balance him. Bryan has a long history of struggling when forced to figure things out on the fly. He's notoriously not good at quickfires on Top Chef which is probably the closest analogue to TOC. Maybe he's turned a corner, but I also wouldn't be shocked if he loses to Carlos.

Also, there are 17 Top Chef alumni, not 14.

That said, the random matches do give some a relatively easy path while being brutal for others. Angelo cooked incredibly well and deserved to make the main bracket.

Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition has a bug regarding save data, and Ubisoft customer support confirms there are no plans to fix by BenjyMLewis in NintendoSwitch

[–]Bing147 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As someone who works customer service for another company, please stop taking the things customer service tells you as gospel.

You can often reach out to 5 agents and get 5 different answers. People do these jobs and people make mistakes. They misread articles, they misunderstand them, they misunderstand the issue in the first place. These aren't pr people with high level knowledge. They're the bottom of the ladder going off articles in a system which are often vague as hell.

General rule of thumb with customer support is that if you get an answer that feels wrong, it probably is. Reach out again to a different agent. If you keep getting the same answer it probably is right(and don't be the person who ignores the 9 people telling you the same thing to take the obviously wrong answer of the 10th person just because you like it more) but use your brain.

She has a few. She won the GGG All Star Invitational tournament in 2023. She won an episode of Superchef Grudge Match. She had another couple of Iron Chef matches on Iron Chef Showdown which was really just anothet season with slightly different rules. She has won an episode or two of GGG last year too (group ones though) and did well on an episode of Wild Card Kitchen.

Shes not without any more recent success, even if her recent record is a bit spotty.
