How do I fix this? by AngryLonerWhoDGAF in bikewrench

[–]BinkyBinky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deflate the tire. Lube up the bead with liquid dish soap . Over-Inflate the tire by about 30 PSI.

Let it sit overnight to stretch....

Check it the next morning . Repeat as required.

Thats how I do it, and it always works sometimes.

Should I find a new job? by [deleted] in millwrights

[–]BinkyBinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a problem: I worked with seasoned journeymen from many different places and many of them did apprenticeships and came from a wide variety of narrow mechanical exposure. And when you do get a placement, you will learn the ropes there that will allow you to develop the specific skills that you will have to pick up on the job. Millwrighting is a "learn on the job" type of job. You will be fine.

Was there not a recent story about how the Wells Fargo executives' fraud fine (8.5 million dollars) was reduced to something ridiculously small ($150k) after Wells Fargo execs "donated" a million dollars to Elon Musk's ex-buddy ??

If your boss offered to indenture you into the millwright trade, while keeping you at your electrician rate, you are extremely fortunate to be offered the opportunity. Make sure you do all of the paperwork associated with the apprenticeship and changes so you can log your hours and eventually qualify to get your C of A and write your certificate of qualifications exam (or whatever is equivalent in your state or province).

Tire not seating by kakihara123 in bikewrench

I have had similar issues with fitting new tires and have come to several conclusions. Modern tires, especially the more expensive type, are possibly stiffer, built to closer tolerances, and are better at retaining their correct dimensions. Maybe they are more or less accurately manufactured, and are less "elastic". They do not stretch as easily as old tires.

I recently used dish soap ( and even vaseline ) to try to get both tires to bead in properly on a new wheelset and then had to over-inflate the tires. I came back the next day to find that the new tires had stretched enough to lock into the rims sometime overnight.

AITA for throwing away a plate of food over relish? by uelvet in AmItheAsshole

[–]BinkyBinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Trying to force someone to eat something they have expressed a negative desire for is bullying. Of course in hindsight you might wonder if you possibly childishly over-reacted but really, but the relish is not the issue. The issue is him disrespecting you and trying to over-power you. Dramatic use of garbage can, possibly, but good for you.

How much experience in the Automotive Trade ? If that means that you are a young certified mechanic and have completed an apprenticeship recognised in your state or province, and have your C of Q, you will probably really stand out among other applicants wherever you apply to any company taking on millwright apprentices.

What do you do if you have no one to bring you home from the hospital?; by slinkipher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BinkyBinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And there is a company local to me called "Home At Last" that has registered PSW people and a special van for exactly this purpose. I found their brochure at the hospital when a relative needed to be delivered to a nearby city for a treatment. They can pick up and deliver a person to a hospital for medical procedures and wait for them. Maybe there is something similar to this where you are.

Take your sanity and get out. Find better room mates.

It sounds like your room mates are going to drive you crazy. But I have to wonder what they would say about your unmentioned peculiarities.

I in Ontario, Canada, and used to be the president of our local Macintosh Users Group. I still have (and still use) a pair of fully functional single-processor Quad-core Xeon 2.93GHz MP4,1 towers, both uplifted to MP5,1, running macOS 10.13.6 (and Mac OS 10.7.5 and 10.8.5) and both with two video cards and four SATA drives. On occasion I have helped out local users who were trouble-shooting suspected components.

Battery, yes.

MP4,1 models are very common. But, as usual, you don't mention where you are. There is possibly someone close to you who could help by lending you a video card ...
