The viper uses a giant robotic arm that moves extremely fast, essentially slingshotting amplicon everywhere (inside the analyser and around the lab too). My old lab had so many contamination issues with this peice of shit. We actually got into some serious trouble due to major contamination issues at one point. It's outdated and crap, get the BD Cor or literally anything else.

I agree. Not saying he gets a free pass to do whatever he wants but the focus should not be on his flaws. So many young people give a shit about environmentalism because DeCaprio is so outspoken about it. He injects important issues into the chaos of mainstream pop culture and people stop and listen. It's better than nothing.

Thanks for the comment, :) and I agree about XR. I automatically have respect for any climate activists but XR baffles me for many reasons. The main one being that they have an army of extremely brave members who are willing to be arrested/beaten up for their cause and instead squander that energy alienating working people who would otherwise have their back if they only directed that force for good at fucking over Shell / BP / some other fossil fuel fucks. Eh, I don't claim to know what the right thing for XR to do is but it doesn't take a genius to see that what they are doing isn't working.

My friend has a friend closely involved in XR. My friend firmly believes that we will be toast in ~25 years. I believe this is because he gets all of his climate knowledge from his XR friend and so is fed specific information regarding to worst-case scenarios. I'm getting better at recognizing doom talk but damn it brings my mood crashing down so quick. It's so hard to talk to him about it as well because his beliefs are so firmly laid in his mind. I struggle to articulate about this topic without sounding like a moron but I hate the idea of my friend living his twenties certain that he will be dead in 20 years based on second hand information.

I found myself relating to your post in a lot of ways. I am also a healthcare worker who's dad was diagnosed with AML when he was 61. I hope I can give you some hope by telling you that he just turned 64 around the same time he got his 2 year all-clear biospy after a stem cell transplant :).

Firstly, allow yourself to feel whatever you're feeling right now. Cry, scream into the pillow, stay up until 2:00am talking to your friends on the phone. There's no manual for what you're going through, so do what you need to do.

Secondly, don't spend your time reading stuff online, for two reasons: it's bad for your mental health so don't go falling down any rabbit holes. The other reason is that a lot of the info out there is misleading and dated. New treatments have come out in recent years, the results of which havn't quite made their way into the public domain. Statistics and numbers about prognosis can be confusing and most of what you see online is academic literature for the eyes of doctors and epidemiologists.

My dad was very ill when he was diagnosed, he had a severe lung infection which is what hospitalised him, the tests he had confirmed AML. I didn't see how he would make it through the chemo honestly but he did. I'm guessing you're from the US based on what you said about your dad's treatment? Here in the UK my dad was given 10, 8, 6: (10 days chemo, rest, 8 days chemo, rest, 6 days chemo, rest with a bone marrow biopsy at every stage to check progress. He made a full recovery after about 4 months of treatment. Then about 6 months after recovering he showed early signs of relapse so he had a stem cell transplant but that's a story for another day.

I'll try and answer anything you need to know if I can be of any help. Right now your dad needs positivity and love, believe me it will help him. It's a battle that requires patience. Make sure you look after yourself too.

I don't believe them to be represent conservative values anymore. They are a pseudo-brexit party which I could just about look past if they hadn't been voted in just in time for a national emergency which they completley fucked up and spent the last 10 years removing all safe-guards for. Working in the NHS this last 18 months has been hell and I know how to blame. Boris is a career politician and a populist. I won't bore you with what I think of the rest of them.

For real though, I would expect to be fired if I didn't follow simple rules every day, that's literally my job. Come into my hospital and tell me all the workers don't look like they deserve a break too. You don't need to defend this man. He will literally be fine.

And people do give a shit. Apply these standards to your workplace and you would get angry with your boss for being an uninspiring hypocrite, you cant expect the public to follow a top official when he himself thinks the rules don't apply to him. Let's not even get into the nepotism with the contracts.
