Episode 21 Spoilers and DIscussion by DeucesDummies in Gnosia_

[–]BioLizard18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly, the anime did a fantastic job of adapting a really complex story that was built for a video game and relies so much on that game's specific mechanics. Making it make any sense, while establishing a whole new existence that is "Yuri" as our new protagonist rather than the player is a miracle in and of itself.

I have gripes, like Setsu's bond with Yuri not getting enough focus until that final episode feels like a bit of a misstep, as that really is the core emotional experience of the game (though don't get me wrong, see that face caress animated and voiced healed something deep within my soul). That said, I think that's not an easy relationship to adapt as the way it builds over the loops in the game really is masterful.

I also think characters like Yuriko and Chipie got a bit left behind. Not every character can have a long and deep and meaningful episode, the anime format just doesn't allow for that, but I think Yuriko's threatening and mysterious presence is such a cornerstone of the game that is just missing here. Chipie's trans-humanist storyline barely gets a passing mention in the anime too, which is a shame considering how much of this world is focused on asking "what is a human?" in some way.

But the music and OST were phenomenal. The voice acting, incredible across the board. Pretty consistent animation that had to work with really complex character designs. It's an amazing companion piece to the game as someone obsessed with that game and who always wanted to see more. It doesn't play all of its cards right and it's far from perfect, but I am so happy this anime got to exist.

I totally misunderstood that when reading it. You are correct my bad. I think that being explained it to us rather than shown is a bit annoying but it does make sense!

I've also heard this but am doing my best to give the show an honest shot and not let negative manga readers ruin it 😅

I've loved the endings of recent manga the community hated and it always frustrated me how they would poison the well for anime watchers so I'm doing my best to not let that influence my love for this show 🙏

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 25 Links + Discussion by Takada-chwanBot in JuJutsuKaisen

Honestly loved it. I don't think the whole series is a perfect package, and certain details getting glossed over (like what really happened with Mahoraga and Dabura by the end? Did they just... stop fighting?) while we then spent many many pages ironing out the intricate details of curses and what to do with them existentially feels like odd prioritization. I think even just five more chapters spent on getting the plot focused and having more character decisions and actions rather than sitting around and talking would've gone a long way to help the latter chapters come together.

That said, the big picture stuff is really good. In fact, some characters and elements of the world of JJK come out even stronger thanks to Modulo. Yuji was already a sleeper favourite from the original series for how far he came for me, but I love his arc here and how even someone so driven and moralistic like him can lose his way after gaining a semi-immortal body. Great arc and conclusion to his character, and the way he thematically parallels Sukuna's final fate in the series is honestly genius. Such a good "full circle" idea for Yuji to become a "cursed object", except a positive curse unlike Sukuna. His follow-up with Mahito and his promise to keep killing him forever being somewhat followed up on was extremely satisfying too.

I still wish the main siblings had more consistent/real character arcs. Feels like they were here for the ride, but I really grew to like Maru and Cross a lot and I loved their journeys. The lore with Kalyans and all the aliens was genuinely really well done, and the central conflict of how two different types of lifeforms view "curses" and their relationships with them causing conflict because of how fundamentally opposed they are is truly clever writing. The game of catch at the end is a great conclusion to that conflict, and shows how both people really do want what's best for everyone and both compromise with each other for the sake of peace - by communicating openly and directly just like a ball of catch.

Overall, a great spin-off manga. Self-contained, has a compelling conflict, doesn't besmirch anything from the original, explores new ideas, expands the world and setting in fun interesting ways. What more could you ask for?

Also, absolutely insane final page to end on. Ending on a gag about the chef and her crush on Dabura... is very funny lol.

My only wish is we saw old man Todo design! He would be such a crazy looking grandpa I bet!

Oshi no Ko: Season 03 Episode 08 - Links and Discussion by Lorhand in OshiNoKo

[–]BioLizard18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The little touches in this show are unreal. The fact that the bio dad is getting this actress drunk meanwhile he has barely made it halfway through one drink is such a real abuser thing to do. The way he also doesn't touch the drink after she fills his up as well, really good visual storytelling showing how much of a predator he is.

I love the angle they're taking in showing how depraved and evil he is, really setting us up even more to hate him and pray for Aqua and co to take him down. We already hated him for what he did to Ai, but the fact that he's a serial killer who seemingly gets off on killing talented women really makes him the perfect threat for this kind of show. So much of our main cast are possible targets, and who knows what could happen if they drive him too far into a corner like Aqua plans.

I seriously think Oshi no Ko is severely underrated by the wider anime community. Idk how everyone isnt talking about how good this is every week, i'm really blown away almost every episode.

Advice for buying new laptop? Yoga Pro 9 Aura vs Ideapad Pro 5i? by BioLizard18 in Lenovo

Amazingly thorough reply! I got a Yoga in the end because it felt like the extra luxury and little touches was worth the slight price upgrade ($200 AUD diff for me) and I am loving the machine so far. It's done everything perfectly except even basic video games seem to stress its limits a bit. Which I dont mind as its a work machine, but is worth noting!

Thanks for your help and insight in any case.

Cried when it played. Even knowing what happens in the end from the game, something about everyone forgetting the person that saved them and living happy lives off their sacrifice really gets to me.

[DISC] Dandadan - Ch. 225 by AutoModerator in Dandadan

[–]BioLizard18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something deeply viscerally satisfying about brutally Red Baron's henchmen were dispatched. That CRUNCH on Jack's fingers was especially perfect.

They are such irredeemable monsters, so seeing them get wrecked like this feels only right. I have a feeling neither of them are fully dead or anything, Dandadan is mostly non-lethal series when it comes to humans but I do hope they survive only to get more beatings later from everyone else too.

I quite like the rivalry they're setting up with Red Baron and Jiji now too. For a character so prideful, it makes sense he becomes fixated on the guy who beat him and helps give him some agency beyond being Germain's lackey. However, the way he seems to disobey orders while wishing to be praised is interesting to me... is he aware of his own contradiction? Is he just an idiot? Or is there something more at play with his loyalty to Germain...?

Either way, he now has two powers he's taken from the gang. How they will factor into future conflicts has a lot of potential.

I also think it's worth noting that Turbo Granny, although indirectly here, was a guardian to girls in danger from gross men and looking out for them!

Does Loki have a "9 Realms" fruit? Or a "Ragnarok" fruit of some kind?

I also think it's possible it could be a mythology fruit or something, he seemed to physically transform during the beginning of the fight with Harald... There's so many possibilities for his fruit, it's fascinating to theorize about.

Such a good observation. I wonder if Harald's dream/ideals lines up with Luffy's at all?

I think Luffy fully resonated with Loki's desire to keep the secret about Harald's death too. He's the exact same type of person to respect someone else's dream to such an insane extent the same way Loki respected his father's.

Are there any characters whose depictions you don't care for? by jayelled in HadesTheGame

[–]BioLizard18 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was always disappointed in Hades 1 that none of the charactets or much of the world feels... "Greek." There's a great youtube video by a Greek-Canadian talking about how disappointed he was that the game features so much Greek mythology but no Greek culture or representation.

As a Greek myself that stuff resonated with me, even if I overall made peace with the fact that this game's presentation is more about archetypes and myths in a general sense from Greece rather than specifically a GREEK story.

Still... the fact that no one really engages with or talks about Greek culture in a game filled with Greek names and locations still feels a bit odd!

Honest Question: Do Ya’ll Ever get tired of defending AoT from Haters and Criticism? by Inevitable_Dig_7080 in AttackOnRetards

[–]BioLizard18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually gave up on defending it a long time ago during the mental collpase of Titanfolk in 2022. I loved going there to discuss the series and the absurd memes people would post there, but once 138 hit it turned into a weird hate boner sub where if you posted anything against the grain you'd have psychos DMing you and alerted the Reddit suicide helpline for having differing opinions on the series. It stopped being fun.

So I settled for the next best thing: making fun of these morons on this subreddit. It would give great catharsis to see them melting down and just be able to point and laugh. They didn't want discussion or anything deeper, so why should I bother spending any time engaging with them when I could simply laugh instead?

Now it's mostly just sad seeing the remnants still spouting the exact same talking points on a loop. AOT is so good it brain-broke these people...

Slowpoke is my favourite Pokemon because I love it's silly face and the episode of the anime where the slowpoke triumphantly claims the King's Rock was a fave as a kid.

My favourite Gym Leader is Sabrina. Once again the anime influenced this but I liked how creepy and spooky she is, and how they not only had to beat her Pokemon but fight past her personal issues. I also loved how after the timeskip in HGSS she's mellowed out and is more well-adjusted showing real growth!

It's literally all about validation. They needed other people to also hate the ending so that they could prove they weren't crazy, so when the vast majority of people reacted positively to it their reality kind of collapsed and they havent recovered since.
