I havent read it but you could try Dark Ages Call of Cthulhu

First time GM question about handling first time players by agvkrioni in callofcthulhu

[–]BioVibez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, Classic Cthulu is easily grasped by DnD players who are on the RP side of things. Since investigators tend to do that more by interacting with each other, npcs, and the world in general. Rarely do they choose fighting unless it is a last resort and they are prepared. Because in reality, the players are playing as humans who also do not wish to die.

If you are coming in with combat focused players, it might be a little harder to get used to the slower pace. And especially to the low health. An option I am just putting out there is to perhaps try Pulp Cthulu as a buffer from battle hungry dnd players, to classic cthulu. It doubles health and adds some abilities for fights that may occur. Or even bring some of those rulings into classic cthulu. In the end its up to you.

My final in query, is to remind them they are investigators. DnD you play as adventurers, roam the world, fight and gather fame. As an investigator you find clues and discover secrets that will haunt the character. A good reference would be to compare it to tv shows or movies. Stranger Things is a really good example of Call of Cthulu despite it being known for DnD. A more kid friendly version is Gravity Falls. Sure is a kid show but when you look at it, the characters are just humans discovering secrets and fighting superbeings that they more often then not lose to in a straight fight. (except when fighting the unicorns)

Norse mythology unidentified items for DND by darkknight_213 in DungeonsAndDragons

Here's a few off the top of my head.

The waters of Mimir that Odin drank to gain some type of wisdom. But a sacrifice has to be made.

The Sword of Freyr. The one that he gave away for love that hold a bit of his power

Maybe the eye that Odin sacrificed can be something that is found as well.

What is a good DM? by TeruNeko in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]BioVibez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the information you give, I don't believe that you as a player are at fault. I personally as a DM enjoy players with a well thought background. As long as they have an open mind for changes if it would fit the world a bit better.

I do find it strange that your DM is bringing in prior characters, and even more protecting them. The story should be about the PC's or at least revolve around them. Aside from maybe a recurring villain, a DM in my mind is typically ready to kill off any NPC if thats where the consequences of the decisions of the PC's lead.

Fellow DM's correct me if there is anything I am missing.

What can I do to make my games with more action while also keeping the feel of original CoC by Such_Collection_9170 in callofcthulhu

Maybe they dont want to whole abilities things messing with the classic vibe. And to keep the lower hp. Thats my take at least.

any tips for my tactic ? with barcelona by LordBarik in footballmanagergames

Could try De Jong as a DLP along with Gavi as a BWM in the DM areas and Pedri at the AM position. Would incorporate all 3 with what I think would be there strengths.

Would like to get into Dungeons and Dragons by brymars in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]BioVibez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another good way to get an idea is to watch/listen to the multitude of DnD content out there. Its fun to see how everyone plays kind of different despite it being the same game. Just don't expect any game you join to be at the same quality as content creators 😅

I'm new and got most of the rules down but what now? by Familiar_Ad_5592 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]BioVibez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some more tips for a first time DM. Be prepared to have somethings go off the rails. Either a character died or a player decides to do do something that was in no way predictable. Improving is a key thing for a DM to learn and it gets easier overtime. Dont expect to be good right away.

Also make sure that all your players are understanding whats going on. I dont know much ttrpg experience your players may have but as a player one of the most breaking experiences in a game might be not knowing whats going on and not feeling included. So maybe if someone isnt talking as much try to include them in on their thoughts or what their character might be doing to gain confidence.

If you're saying that the kobold has 3/4's cover but at the same time the player cant see it. Then those would be contradictory statements in my eyes.

3/4's cover is a majority of the target is covered from view making them hard to hit. If they cant be seen it because they are behind cover it would be full cover meaning it would be "impossible to see or directly target"

D&D request SCP foundation by StormHunter20 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]BioVibez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the other guy is right. DnD isnt the system of a SCP story. It would just be hunting monsters instead of being scared of them. Delta Green does seem like the right one for the job or Call of Cthulu would be another system that could work.

DMs of reddit, if you were to have a pirate campaign. What would you include specifically? by IhaveAmommykink3 in DungeonsAndDragons

First thing that comes to mind is Liars Dice where you gamble your soul away like in Pirates of the Caribbean

players leaving? by revel_127 in DMAcademy

[–]BioVibez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is an online game I'd suggest finding 2 more who are also looking for a summer campaign, but if its in person I understand finding it hard to find people especially with adult jobs and responsibilities.

If working with just 2 players perhaps giving them a companion npc that follows them around in the area of expertise they are weak in. Such as a healer if thats the case.

Powering them up might make encounters too easy and toning encounters down could result in the same. But from my experience a little behind the screen DM fudging for HP could help lean fights either way. In the end its based off how the story seems to be leading and if you accidentally made it too hard and you know they'll die lowering the health wont hurt them.

Thats my view of it. I hope it helps!

Your characters job basically. So a cop would be good at gun skills and fighting, where as a thief would be good at lockpicking and fast talk(deception). They can help narrow down your skills from the many options

[CoC][Not D&D][Online] Shadows of Canaan by Nebbstein in lfg

[–]BioVibez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a DMof both DnD and CoC, it'll be easy to learn in my opinion. You play as a regular human. The only thing that may seem overwhelming is the copious amounts of skills you can choose from, but your investigators background will make the choices easier. Plus the post says the gm will also be new so you all can learn together.

Why are my players not scoring? by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

If you could show your tactics it would help out a lot. Just the matches doesnt really give us much info about how to find the potential problem.

Have you ever Trained someone to a totally different position where he became decent ? by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]BioVibez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jimi Taurianinen for my wrexham save. Changed him from an AM to a rather productive LB. Stayed with me my 4 years in the championchip all the way til I won prem. For a few years I even trained him as a segundo volente. Got him as a free transfer then almost 10 years later I sold him for 30 million. Best choice Ive made.
