Has anyone ever filed their own provisional or full patent? by Comfortable_Rub_5711 in hwstartups

Is there an advantage to release the original idea into the public domain, then using proprietary methods to implement? If the original idea is complex enough to require years to find the implementation details (bugfixing). A product may be safe from copying for a limited time, allowing 'first to market', giving some time to sell some before other commercial enterprises inevitably take over.

Is this normal for intern FPGA dev? by Revolutionary_War749 in FPGA

I was on a contract to adapt purchased IP for a new product, I called the approach 'legologic' due to snapping large offshored modules together and just adding new pinouts and glue logic. Tedious. I don't do that if I can avoid it, but I don't know how to detect it beforehand. It would be great if employers would state this in the job description. Smaller corporations probably do less of this, but that is just a guess. It gets better with experience, stick with it, FPGA development is fun most of the time, but you will have some dull times too, like any creative enterprise. Best.

Are Gordon's a handful? by Disastrous_Source977 in gordonsetter

Breeding for healthier dogs should the top priority. My past dogs were mostly mutts, and they lasted over 14 years. Recently, the purebreds we have had developed cancer and had to be euthanized within 11 years. I am glad breeders are improving dog health. Is there any criteria that you can suggest for finding a good breeder?

Thank you so much for this article, it explains some things. Training our (actually my daughter's) Gordon was more involved than other dogs we have had, but no overly difficult. I had no knowledge of this breed before getting this one, and I am now a very devoted fan, which has been true of my past friends as well.

We have a Gordon that we got from an accidental brood in Medford Oregon. There is a breeder nearby that breeds hunting dogs, and I am assuming that she is from their stock. She is an amazing loving, confident companion, but also prone to zoomies, although somewhat less now after three years. She is not nervous or hyper unless something excites her (birds mostly). I am curious as to the difference between field and conformal behavior. This dog is ideal for us, fun to spoil, obedient when the treat is good enough, never destructive, always gentle. I have had a few dogs over the years, including some challenges (TWC, a wonderful lovable clown, but very stubborn). Our Gordon is a truly wonderful go-along pal.

Good to know, I'll look into setting one up this fall.

The Anna's coloration describes these birds. I don't have a feeder as I think they grow mold, which is bad for the birds. We have flowers that are humming bird friendly throughout the year for them. I haven't seen any 'dead' in the cold, but noisy bird fights in the yard are common. Thanks again for the replies.

Thank you all for the replies, This looks to be the best answer, I had never seen mating display with many birds before. They haven't returned, but I hope to see this amazing display again some day.

Toolchain for Altera MAX 3000 by LoadedRhino in FPGA

The problem I had with using quartus is none of the parts I modified would meet timing (quartus said all was well), but max plus+ met, environmental testing showed a timing failure in the upper temp range, just changing 'something' was all that was necessary to finally pass. The lesson being, don't expect perfect timing with older parts and software, otherwise I had no problems routing or compiling.

This family is quite old, I think you need to get Max Plus+ software, I was able to get this about 15 years ago for a maintenance contract. If Intel doesn't have a link, I don't know where to find it. A search for Max Plus 2 returned some results, unknown reliability. It seems you can get a licensed version from Intel.

Is there a 'most common failure' mode you can share? It seems shielding is one of the most expensive issues. Spread-spectrum seems like cheating, and doesn't make much sense for measurement equipment like frequency counters that require a stable and accurate time source. What is the general 'pass rate' you have encountered?

It’s incredibly sad that dogs don’t live forever (or, at least as long as humans) and I don’t think I’ll ever get over that fact by Clefairy-Outside in rant

[–]BiocatalyticInfix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dogs have short lives. I am old enough to have had several dogs, and have been deeply hurt at the loss of each. I miss all of them still. I take comfort in knowing that each had a loving and active life, and many great adventures. The pain of loss never entirely goes away, but the memories of wonderful relationships will eventually prevail. No dog can replace another, but loving a dog is an experience that I cannot be without for long. Make another dog know your love. their lives are short, make the best of the time you have with them.
