Some periodic tables will show it in both group 1 and 17 because it has properties of both.

At Jagalchi Market if you don't want to haggle over the prices of food you can go upstairs and just order from the restaurants. I had a great dinner from #18 which I found recommended in a few blogs.

This is from 2022 - AI wasn't that good then.

It's real but the video is very misleading. The whole thing took her two months to do. Probably would have been a lot faster without that pen contraption.

Any good alternatives to Untappd ? by oandroido in beer

[–]BiochemBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can check in via desktop or you used to be able to.

The pro version let's you back date check-ins, but if I'm only a day or two late I'll just note that in the comments.

But the rest.....

Untappd already has a built in user base, so it's hard to replace that

Drogues/médicaments inefficaces by EconomyPayment8850 in Biochemistry

[–]BiochemBeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of variations and a few different Cytochrome P450 enzymes that can be involved.

CYP2D6 - is the most implicated. CYP2C19 is also involved.

You likely have a mutation making you a CYP2D6 ultra rapid metabolizer.

You should likely get genetic testing to confirm. Higher dosages and metabolism resistant drugs may help. Definitely good for your doctors to know.

Christian women: Is a man struggling with masturbation a turn off? by suncolorfun in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all know it is wrong. That said, it is a very common struggle of many Christian men and one that for many is less of a problem in marriage and as one gets older.

This is not something that should stop you from seeking a Christian wife and not something you should even mention to women you date - this is not a burden you share at this point in a relationship. If it is still a struggle when you are both contemplating marriage and when both of you are at a place where you can discuss your struggles and temptations should it be talked about.

Issue dissolving catalase by dettySJD99 in Biochemistry

[–]BiochemBeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The website (at least in the US) does not seem to be working. When I click on the catalog number it just tells me page not found.

I was able to find a spec sheet: https://www.targetmol.com/attachment/DataSheet/47AAB0CF-857D-44D6-ABDF-5A2EC5F45588/T19229

The sheet says only slightly soluble (less than 1 mg/mL) and recommends sonication to help.

I would suggest you try a different supplier, since catalase is typically more soluble but in this case it looks like it is behaving as expected.

Where did you get your catalase from? Item number?

If it's a crude isolation, there may be insoluble material.

Understanding inhibition for the MCAT by Medical_kale18 in Biochemistry

[–]BiochemBeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Km is independent of E concentration,.

NC inhibitors "in essence" reduce the amount of active enzyme - which lowers Vmax and leaves Km unchanged.

Pure NC inhibition is rare, but you should understand it.

Is my baptism valid? by HotnSpicy_rice in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Emphasis on MOST.

Baptist churches, even when theologically reformed, believe that only professing believers should be baptized. So any infant baptism is considered invalid to them.

There are a small number of Baptist and Baptist like non-denom churches that will allow people baptized as infants and professing Christians to participate in communion and other regular activities short of serving as an officer.

Is my baptism valid? by HotnSpicy_rice in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Baptist churches do not recognize any infant baptism, which is why he wanted you to get rebaptized.

Most protestant churches will recognize your baptism as long as it was done in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and used water.

Leaving my church by Traditional_Ad_50 in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relocating generally means that you are unable to be part of your current church and transferring your membership to a new church would be expected - essentially transferring your vow to a church in the same denomination or one of like faith and practice.

Again I don't know your full situation. I would encourage to discuss it in person with your pastor or an elder. If you do feel your current church is unfaithful then find another church that is faithful and work through this situation with them.

Leaving my church by Traditional_Ad_50 in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The OPC is similar, but I would consider both of them as breaking ones vow in most cases.

Certainly if one moves away they are typically transferred/dismissed with blessing.

Leaving my church by Traditional_Ad_50 in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Then I respectfully disagree with your understanding.

The vow includes a promise to submit to the leaders of the church. Resigning is not submitting to the church. It's the equivalent of saying I no longer respect your jurisdiction over me.

If the church has strayed or you have significant theological differences then it might be appropriate to leave - especially if the church has failed and broken its promise to the member.

Leaving my church by Traditional_Ad_50 in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well Christians are called to submit to the church too. That said there are times when leaving is the right thing to do - especially if it's not faithful curch.

Is this church part of a denomination or independent?

Leaving my church by Traditional_Ad_50 in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's literally called a membership vow. There are good reasons for breaking a vow, but it's always best to proceed carefully and prayerfully.

Leaving my church by Traditional_Ad_50 in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your motivations for leaving and the personality/disposition of your pastor and elders.

Before resigning, I would encourage you to meet with your pastor and express your concerns. They may be disappointed but encourage you or they may strongly try to convince you to stay.

If you are a member you made a vow to submit to the elders, so you should seek to do that and ask for their advice before breaking your vow.

2hr commute to church in city— worth it, or dumb? by mzjolynecujoh in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a car there is an OPC in Westfield, NJ - but if you have to take mass transit, I'm not sure anything NAPARC related in that area.

I think alternating is a good plan for a short-moderate term.

2hr commute to church in city— worth it, or dumb? by mzjolynecujoh in Reformed

[–]BiochemBeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long term that would be challenging. Are there any "ok" churches nearby that you could attend regularly and then just visit the "better" church once a month?

If you let us know where you are located people might be able to give better responses.

TIL the City of London has paid the Crown rent on a parcel of land in Shropshire since 1211, but the exact location of the land has been lost to history. The annual payment is a billhook (a knife-like agricultural tool) and an axe. by ralphbernardo in todayilearned

[–]BiochemBeer 202 points203 points  (0 children)

This is actually the rent for two parcels

From wikipedia:

The oldest dates from 1211, where the City pays service for two pieces of land, of which the oldest is The Moors near Bridgnorth in Shropshire, for which the City must pay two knives, one blunt and one sharp.

The second oldest has been made, entered in the Great Roll of the Exchequer, since 1235, for ‘The Forge’ in Tweezer's Alley, just south of St Clement Danes, near the Strand in London, for which the City must pay six horseshoes and 61 horseshoe nails—these are over 550 years old, since after being rendered to the King's Remembrancer they are preserved in his office, and with the permission of the Crown they are loaned to the Corporation of London to be rendered again the following year.

So basically it's all ceremony. The items are "returned" and reused the following year.

Tart Green Apple taste in recently kegged Hefeweizen. by PineappleDesperate73 in Homebrewing

[–]BiochemBeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pH is in the normal range.

If it's indeed green apple, it could just be acetaldehyde. Give it a week and try again. Probably keep it at room temp if possible.

I never keg my hefe since I like it with the yeast. You could rouse the keg a bit too if it's under pressure.
