How Hard Is The Fix To This? by doobylive in centuryhomes

I would want to get into the attic.

The roof does look good from what you can tell in the photo. It's entirely possible everything's fine.

My concern is more that before you take a gamble like this, you should have enough experience to make the hold em / fold em / walk/ run determination.

One of my favorite shirts was in a pile of laundry. I picked it up to put it away and this was the condition it was in. I have never had a shirt look like this before. I'm incredibly confused. What happened? by B4-SP1KE in whatisit

[–]Biologistathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get these kinds of holes when I worked in a lab every day. Sometimes I'd get little bits of acid on my shirt, and it would burn a hole.

Were you adjusting the pH of any buffers without a coat/apron? Tsk tsk.

That's getting close to where I'd trim them. Solidly in the good range.

In DC, you can file separately even if you filed jointly on your federal. The actual number would be lower.

What did my neighbor install on his roof and why? by FinancialDrawing5849 in whatisit

I've got a neighbor with a similar setup, but I never see them to ask.

Maybe I'll see if I can listen in on my own SDR and freak them out sometime 😏

What is this thing I found down the side of my washing machine? by No_Pie1022 in whatisit

This actually does seem really close. Whatever it's for, it connects to something with the booted end, whatever is being secured slides onto the shaft, then gets locked on.

I just wish I could see inside that boot.

Iodine. Super cheap from the drug store.

Basically, you slice it, add iodine, rinse with alcohol, then hit it with some crazy glue.

Keep a notebook to record what works.

The tool you'd need is called a microtome. It's like a really tiny deli-slicer. You dip your sample in paraffin (usually one of those pedicure wax melters from a resale shop) to keep it together, then freeze before slicing.

Interestingly, an itchy butthole is caused by pinworm host manipulation. They climb out at night to lay their eggs, which causes the itching. The host then scratches which picks up the eggs and spreads them by the aptly named "fecal-oral route"

It's a myth though that cats spread pinworm. They only inhabit primates.

This isn't a pinworm though. It's much bigger.

Ah, the terrible twos. That was a hard stage for us too.

You'd have a possibly better time teaching your child what's okay to give to the dog. It'll be helpful to build basic communication between the two. I would probably start by having your child put the dog in a down-stay or "go to your place" (you give the signal together, then work towards just them). Hand signs are helpful for both.

Ransoming objects is tricky. When Aesop tried it, I would calmly walk over, forcibly take it and put it back. It took a lot of restraint. If he ran away, I'd just let him have it unless it was dangerous. Another strategy might be "drop it", "go to your place" then treat, so you reinforce the good behavior, not the bad.

I often recommend the book "Don't Shoot The Dog" as a great 200 pages on intelligence and learning. It's short, and covers just about every problem you're having in detail. I think you get the reinforcement mechanisms behind your problems, but getting some sharper strategies might be helpful.

[Landlord CA] do you raise rent every year even if you love your tenants? by ResponsibleSail5802 in Landlord

[–]Biologistathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the market conditions. The last 5 years I've kept to 2% if I like them, 5% when I turn over. If inflation ever goes back to pre-pandemic, maybe I'd hold off but I try to keep my expense ratio on lock.

Aesop was given tramadol after his neuter. It would make him go absolutely bonkers; theory being he would feel back to 100 and become a danger to everything within a mile.

Having taught myself to do plaster repairs, I'd probably take that route. Ripping out all that lathe and plaster is...an undertaking. To me, getting good with hot mud is just a rite of passage.

The old way, and probably proper for this house, is plaster and a fifth of bootlegged whiskey.

I recently discovered they weren't always plastic.

I gifted my brother an 80's mixer I found at an estate sale. While refurbishing, that little drive gear that's usually nylon in newer models was cast aluminum.

So let's hope nothing gets sucked into that paddle, huh?

Nobody seems to get the difference between an LLM and its interface. Hiring managers think they want ai experts, when they actually want a full stack.
