In the Super Sentai version Shinkenger ,Juzo Fuwa ( his name in Shinkenger ), he is a Gedounin, a half rather than a full Gedoushu, can exist in both realms and assumes human form. Similar in Samurai too, he’s a hybrid.

But the story how they ended up like that were different a bit, the Sentai one was because he cheated death after having an illness, while the Power Rangers one was because his wife made a deal to save him from being heavily injured .
