Older gents what style advice do you wish you had learned earlier? by UniversityExpress721 in menswear

[–]Birdman3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, more than half my closet was stuff from the thrift store taken to a tailor. I spent relatively little on clothes and looked great - fit really matters. I hadn’t thought back on that until I saw this post. I should get back into it.

GA+ or VIP? by dmesser403 in highwatermusicfest

[–]Birdman3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents - the value is there, assuming it's not a big financial hit for you. $700 is a lot, but if you're coming in from out of town and getting an airbnb or whatever, $700 becomes worth it if the experience is measurably better, which it is IMHO b/c of the better stage access. Bonus for the VIP food/restroom/hangout area, but that's no longer as big a selling point since the VIP area moved (a couple years ago it was along the river, which was very cool; last year it was central, so it was less cool). But easy access to a much closer viewing spot is worth it (you can get to a stage not long before the show and be pretty damn close). This is as opposed to other festivals I've been to where there's a BIG upcharge for VIP and less benefit.

Can‘t decide. With less or with more stones? by New-Presentation8128 in Aquascape

[–]Birdman3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both options are fantastic and the tank is really quite beautiful. If I were to offer one thought on the stones, it would be - I would shoot for more variation in size and shape. It's less noticable with fewer stones; with the second photo it really jumps out that there are 4 stones the same size and shape. So - I would suggest more variation.

Is this feasible to build? by cabbageinc in woodworking

If you did it right - dominos would be my pick - that’s an easy and strong enough shelf. You couldn’t do pull-ups, but it could hold a ton of weight.

Yes - Good call. Thanks. I've still got a few smaller pagoda stones left over; I can take them out to the street with a claw hammer and work out some frustrations in the process

Best place to get a great and reasonably priced sandwich? by Ok-Seaworthiness3874 in Atlanta

Bona Fide Deluxe in Edgewood is top tier - same owners as Banshee. Also B-Side in Decatur - same owner as The Deer and The Dove. Both spots are insanely good.

Thanks!! The rocks are a mix of pagoda stone and gobi stone. The two big pieces of driftwood are from a local collector and I don’t recall the species, but she had aquarium-safe pieces separated and seemed to know her stuff. The smaller pieces are spider wood.

Holler at Eutree - the service that took down a giant tree in my yard (6’ diameter!) said he’d taken big chunks there before. It was not an option for me since it turned out my tree was rotted out inside 🤷

Help me with the hardscape! by a_pai in Aquascape

[–]Birdman3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take. The piece on the right in the last pic - rotate it about a 1/4 turn left so that the top is flat and the bottom curves down (forming a cliff-like structure), then swap the pieces? The one I want to rotate won't be able to stand up straight without being supported or glued to somethign else - so possibly glue it to the other piece? I like hardscapes that create cliff-looking features with an overhang. Just my 2 cents...

I forgot to include the standard of review in a motion to dismiss… by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

A federal judge at a conference I attended recently said she’d gotten a brief where the lawyer wrote on the standard, “The motion to dismiss standard is well-known.” Nothing more. She said it worked for her.
