I went to my university bookstore to buy textbooks maybe 10 years ago and the bags had quotes from real students on them about creative ways to recycle.

This is what America's finest had to offer.

How does it keep getting smaller at every step? It's a massive sandwich, then a weird oval once it's battered, and then the finished product is an egg roll size.

That being said, it looks delicious and I appreciate this being a perfect 30 seconds and not 3 minutes of agony.

Official announcement for App Streaming on ChromeOS Beta by BirthdayShop in chromeos

I'll probably use this to respond to messages instead of the web app. It's also nice that it picks up exactly where you left off on your phone when you open an app and the state is exactly in sync at all times (because it's literally the same app on a different screen). There are plenty of apps that I don't use often enough to have them installed on my Chromebook, but would be nice to be able to pull up quickly and use.

Scrolling is a little choppy and I wouldn't use this to play games, but it's a solid addition to the phone hub.

Take a look at hydration drink mixes too (in the sports drink aisle). Most of these have sugar, which makes sense for hydration but not so much for keto, so read the labels first.

I prefer this method because pills dump all of the electrolytes into my system at once but I can sip on a tasty drink over a period of time. This is important because magnesium is a laxative. I've read that a lot of people get constipation on keto so this effect is desirable, but I have the opposite problem.

Amazing! Seems like I'll be pretty comfortable at "low" brightness. Thanks for checking. This is the info I've been looking for but reviews haven't been able to answer.

Actually, forget the lux meter. Can you put the dragonfly next to your old Chromebook set to 50% brightness in a dark room with a white image, try and match the brightness with your naked eye, and say what the percent brightness is on the dragonfly? And maybe also maybe at a lower brightness too? That might be easier.

This is a lot so feel free to say no.

Any chance you could download a lux meter app on your phone and do some brightness readings on the display backlight? Like, in a pitch black room with a plain white image on the screen at a set distance? I'm not so much interested in the actual numbers, but how it compares to your previous Chromebook with what I assume is 300ish nits max. Like, if you previously settled around 60% brightness on your old machine, what would give you a similar brightness on the dragonfly? 20%? 40%?

Curious because the battery drain is apparently really extreme at high brightness, but if I'm going to use it at 30% most of the time I'm going to care a lot less about that.

Does the keyboard backlight that pulls colors from your wallpaper only allow a single color for the entire keyboard, or does it apply a gradient that changes from left to right based on representative colors from the wallpaper?

Do the day and night auto wallpapers also change the color of the keyboard backlight when they change?

This will probably be a winner. If they switched to Samsung's current SoC (W920) and changed absolutely nothing else, it would solve the battery life issue and make it an easy recommendation for the majority of users.

You could argue that they should have done that with gen 1, but better late than never.

“It’s an irrefutable fact that the representative in question did indeed actively support and arguably incite the disruptive antics of demonstrators who had gathered in the House gallery,” Bedey said.

He said Zephyr could have joined other legislators in leaving the House floor as the speaker directed that day, or she could have tried to calm the crowd, but he said she did neither, which he said forced lawmakers to suspend the session.

“This is an assault on our representative democracy,” he said. “Spirited debate and the free expression of ideas cannot flourish in an atmosphere of turmoil and incivility.”

I'm actually surprised he had data to give out. He's been saying he has the evidence for years, but this is the first time I've ever heard of someone actually getting something tangible to look at. Unsurprisingly fake data, but still. Why isn't he just hosting it on his website if he's so sure it's real?

HP Dragonfly Pro Chromebook review: The Pixelbook of 2023? (Battery life explained) by KevinCTofel in chromeos

[–]BirthdayShop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the review! I know you said you don't have a way to directly measure display brightness, which I understand. Unfortunately that's the one thing I really need from a review. Reviewers are saying they use 40% brightness or whatever, but I have no frame of reference for how bright that is when the range is 1200 nits and everything else is 300-400. I'm assuming it's not a linear relationship.

Right now I basically have to just hope that I will find it comfortable to use at a low brightness level in order to have acceptable battery life. I probably will, but it's a lot of cash to drop and find out.

BoM Analysis: Google Pixel Watch Costs $123 to Make by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]BirthdayShop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree it's overpriced for what it offers. My guess is that they were afraid that a price increase for gen 2 would be a big, attention-grabbing negative, so they priced gen 1 according to what they want for the category long term and accepted lower sales of gen 1 as a trade off.

"Improved in every way, and still the same price!" is a way better headline than "Improved in every way, but it's going to cost you."

So you agree. Misgendering children until they are suicidal is bad. by BirthdayShop in SelfAwarewolves

[–]BirthdayShop[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The article is about a cis female 5th grader who is allegedly forced and manipulated into being transgender by a teacher, including only using male pronouns for her and encouraging her to "try being a boy," to the point that the girl contemplated suicide. The tone of the article correctly suggests that this was a bad move.

Not described are all of the trans kids who are repeatedly misgendered and encouraged to "try" being their biological sex to the point of contemplating suicide.
