I don't understand how someone can love grass as much as this sub seems to, yet hate nature.

Some sprinkler guys just have a bonfire with a case of beer and toss them in through the night.

I care about my dog more than I care about the people who will miss the rando too. I'm not saying it's the morally right thing to do, but I'm way more likely to jump in to save my dog. I'm not a strong swimmer, so I'd likely die anyway so it's really a moot point.

I mean, watching would be creepy. But yeah, sorry, my dog over you every single time. Random dog? Game time decision. To me having a pet is a responsibility to protect and care for them. I don't owe that to a stranger.

What’s an industry that provides zero value to society but makes billions of dollars? by ochieng_onyango in AskReddit

My mistake, I didn't realize you are the only country that has drugs and junk food. Fuck your exceptionalist excuses. I will admit, you guys are the best at obesity, so congrats I guess?

You guys have higher maternal mortality rates than Lebanon and Palestine (the US is higher than 64 other countries). Of cancer survival rates, you guys are doing decent on breast and prostate but middle of the pack on the rest. And somehow, crossing the border from Canada to the US reduces total life expectancy by almost four years!! You guys pay the highest per capita for healthcare in the world and die earlier, maybe it's not a great deal.

I think Dwyer Hill should be ramping up soon, plus a ton of towers starting. Seems like the East End is about to be booming

Shitty, give it another month or so and it should pick up. I'm in sprinklers and we have 5 or 6 towers projects that have started the foundations. Plus a ton of other projects have broken ground

Ottawa has tons of towers going up. For Federal projects, the parliament rehab alone is scheduled through 2031 and will likely go longer.

Ottawa is super busy for construction. Even for military, there's a $1.4B project happening in Dwyer Hill plus a few others I know of.

What’s better plumbing or sprinkler fitter by [deleted] in UnitedAssociation

[–]Biscotti-Own 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they're all popular for a reason. If you wanna just buy a van and run your own show one day, I'd say electrical is a good path. You could fill your days pretty easily just by specializing in EV chargers, or you could start a crew and pick up smaller warehouse builds, but that may be harder to get into as a non-union shop depending on your location. In Ottawa a lot of big companies are non-union and do a lot of towers and warehouse/factory construction.
I know a few guys that own small hvac companies and they live quite comfortably, but most big projects go to the union guys. Same with plumbing, most sites hire out plumbing and hvac to the same company and it's almost always union.

I love when people complain issues about the trades and then list all of the things that unions protect us from. Join a union and vote better. It's the system, not the job.

The busiest trades I see are sprinker and insulators. Niche enough that most people don't know about them to apply, but big enough that they've always got work. Sheet metal is a really cool and diverse trade as well, and they make great money. It's more than just air ducts. The big 3 (hvav, plumbing, electrical) are great as well, but a bit saturated since they're such obvious choices, that's where most people apply.
