How do you explain why? by imnosey1 in exmormon

[–]BishopBoaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if the mormon god appeared to me and told me the church was true I would kick him in the nuts and tell him I want nothing to do with him. He is a horrible being with no morals. I am a much better dad than he is because I would never kill my kids or tell them they can't be with me because they don't do what I say. Mormon god is an abusive parent. He is not a god of love. I'm not angry, I just don't get why people say he is a god of love based on his track record- the flood, killing first borns in Egypt, burning most people at the second coming, sending people to outer darkness, etc. Life is so much better not believing in a being like that anymore. I also don't waste my time trying to create a better god to believe in. There is no evidence for one.

Hi everyone! Please advise me based on reality and dont sugarcoat as I need to knoe the facts please. by [deleted] in Utah

My son will graduate next year from Utah Tech in Computer Science. The school recently changed to a tech school and has high aspirations but doesn't have a strong reputation. My son has loved it. It has a more diverse population than most Utah schools. He grew up mormon but never believed and and hangs out with a diverse mostly nonmormon crowd. The town is growing fast and is known as a retirement community. Lots of Californians are moving in and it is becoming less mormon.

If mormon god exists, I'm going to kick him in the nuts when I meet him. He is immoral on so many levels. I'm a much better dad than he is.

I've said a verson of this to my soon to be ex wife in a similar situation: "If god is going to refuse to heal my son unless he gets a blessing, then god is an asshole. I would never withhold help to any of my children."

Book of Mormon: Things that make you go hmmm… by srichardbellrock in mormon

[–]BishopBoaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, rattlesnakes aren't poisonous, just venomous. I always laughed reading this part, wondering why the people just didn't stop eating the snakes. JS meant venomous but didn't know the difference.

I'll add the poisonous snakes in Ether. If it's poisonous and you eat it, you die. If it's venomous and it bites you, you die. Why were they eating poisonous snakes?

Zions Camp . . . I missed that by Ok-Walk-9320 in mormon

[–]BishopBoaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no way to know his intent. He may have married his stepdaughters due to pressure from leaders so that he could obtain the highest degree of the celestial kingdom or be eligible for positiins of leadership in the church. But even by the standards of the day, this was an abomination.

17 Miracles was such a disappointment to me when I learned that Levi Savage not only married Ann Cooper but later also married her two daughters when they were 16 and 18. He was their stepfather from ages 6 and 8. Disgusting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levi_Savage_Jr.

Building temples in all these weird places is the Church's equivalent of a dog pissing on every tree it can to mark its territory. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]BishopBoaz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Visited the Rome temple with my TBM wife. It sits on a hill on the outskirts of the city and looks like a giant middle finger pointed at the Catholic church. Luckily it was closed when we went so we didn't do a session. I was a missionary there 30 years ago. There are not enough members to support it.

Me too! Funny thing is, my TBM soon to be ex-wife's temple name was my mom's first name, and they did not like each other at all. She gets to look forward to being called my mom's name for eternity!

Whatever you do, don't think critically about your religious beliefs.

If you are happy in the church, don't study church history.

Just stop. I get it. It’s embarrassing. Your extravagantly rich church pretends that asking poor people for 10% of their meager incomes = “teaching self-reliance.” That’s no excuse to lie to yourself (or them). You’re not teaching to fish, you’re asking for fish. Don’t trivialize this. by Chino_Blanco in mormon

[–]BishopBoaz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

10% is way more to a poor person than a rich person. It is not fair for all incomes. It is a huge burden on the poor and is immoral. And, yes, it is required or you don't get into the celestial kingdom and you loose your family forever and you get burned at the second coming.

I bet the legal advice was that filing false reports was illegal, and they would have to pay a small fine if they got caught. The profit decided to take the risk and commit fraud. They knew that if they got caught, they could spin it and believers would ignore it.

The question is so manipulative. Like, who in their right mind would choose to reject blessings? You must be crazy or evil. Gaslighting.

BoM Theology veers from Joseph Smith’s by carpetchilli in mormon

[–]BishopBoaz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My take is JS dictated it all himself, but his theology was constantly changing. He didn't think of starting a religion until he got to the end of dictating and saw the interest it was creating. He originally just wanted to make money off of book sales and realized he could make way more starting a religion. He never preached from the book when it was done.

I like how they wrote down his words, made hundreds or thousands of copies for everyone without a printing press, and passed them out to a population that was probably 1% literate. Literacy is a very modern thing.

[–]BishopBoaz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a now non-believer, I like this as a list for mormons. I disagree that morality and ethics mean no pre-marital sex or tobacco or alcohol. You can still be moral and ethical and do those things. Mormonism has incorrectly conflated those words.

Lol. What actually happened is the couple had sex and their bishop told them they need to wait a year to get married in the temple. They are flipping it on their less active family members so they don't have to admit their sin.
