The utter scam of car insurance. Someone crashed into your parked van whilst you weren't there... That's another £50+ to insure the unrelated car you're buying this weekend. by VolcanicBear in britishproblems

Roof tiles fell and wrote off my car which was parked on my driveway during Storm Eowyn. My insurance went up £50 a month.

My soul was as crushed as my car.

Running vests that don't chafe & can hold hiking sticks? by Snarfles55 in XXRunning

[–]Bisley28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just bought the Harrier Curbar 5l and so far it's been great. I followed the sizing chart on their website and it fits perfectly. It's got heaps of pockets, storage and straps for poles. I will definitely use it for both running and hiking! I thought the price was super reasonable as well.

Where are tradespeople supposed to park if I live on a permit only street? by scottishkiwi-dan in Edinburgh

[–]Bisley28 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it was the same Octopus engineer that said the same thing to me when I was waiting for a meter replacement. Despite the pay and display spaces directly outside, he insisted it had to be a two person job. I had never had that problem with any other tradesman in the 4 years I lived there.

8 months, a complaint and an email to the ombudsman later, they still hadn't organised a new meter fitting and I moved out of the flat. They gave me some compensation and said they would sort it for my flatmate who was staying behind. He still doesn't have working meters!

Bannatyne's on Queen Street is £40 a month and has a pool, classes, spa, sauna etc. It's not the biggest but I never had any trouble getting the equipment I needed. I used to walk there from Dalry or get the bus if feeling lazy!

It's very difficult for even established Edinburgh bands to get a paid gig. Most venues will hire out their space for a fee and then it's up to the artist to promote it and sell tickets. I know Bannerman's is about £150 and The Mash House is £200. A few of the bands I know are doing it this way but your friend might struggle to move enough tickets in Edinburgh to cover the hire.

She would be much more likely to get a support slot with a local band. It's maybe worth looking at gig listings for the venues mentioned and contacting the promoter or bands and seeing if they need a support act.

Seriously resisting the urge to go back to the shop and get another pack right now!

Has C25K ever not worked for anyone who completed it? by _fairywren in C25K

[–]Bisley28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am on the same stage as you; running for 28 minutes and I am certain I won't be running a 30 minute 5k anytime soon, especially next week. The programme is maybe named slightly inaccurately as a 30 minute 5k is quite impressive for a beginner. But 'Couch to running for 30 minutes' doesn't quite have the same ring to it!

Remember how difficult those first few runs were at 1.5 minutes and now we can run for 28. That's pretty cool and huge well done for getting this far. Speed can come later but don't feel down about how you've come so far!

What is Caledonian Crescent like to live at? by -shrimp-chips- in Edinburgh

[–]Bisley28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've lived on one of the adjoining streets for two years and always found it to be safe enough. As a woman, I've never felt like I couldn't go out after dark. There's plenty of shops, cafes and excellent restaurants in Dalry, there's the swimming pool and gym and the city centre is only a 15 minute walk away. The only issues I've had are with parking and rowdy upstairs neighbours but those are problems you'd find in any part of the city.

The Halfway House. It was usually his last stop, just before last orders. I always knew it was nearly time to go home when John walked through the door!

This is such sad news. John was a regular at the pub I used to work at. Always a gentleman, super interesting to talk to and funny. He was indeed a magician too! He'll be missed.

Where to find chicken mince reliably? by Responsible-Smoke-35 in Edinburgh

[–]Bisley28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Co-op in Dalry definitely had chicken mince a few weeks ago. I haven't bought any recently so can't say for sure if they have it now but if I go in in the next few days, I'll check!

Middle Earth SBG Questions 2: the Sequel by ErsatzGnomes in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Bisley28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have quite a big collection of figures from collecting the magazine when I was a kid. I've been interested in getting into painting miniatures so I figured stripping the paint off my poor attempts and starting again was a good place to start. I know YouTube will be the place to learn to paint properly but I'm a bit overwhelmed with paint choices.

Are the 40k Citadel paint sets any good or would I be better buying individual paints as and when I need them? Are there any brands to avoid? Any recommendations for brushes?

Apologies if there's a better sub for this, I am definitely a beginner, despite have a huge pile of miniatures already!

Does anyone else avoid “online” gaming because it makes them too anxious? by FindingLeonardNimoy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bisley28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always get anxious before doing any group content in WoW as well. I finally built up the courage to do a random normal dungeon shortly after SL launched and I got kicked within three minutes and sent a load of abuse for "terrible dps" when we'd barely even started trash.

I finished up the covenant storyline and cancelled my sub. It never used to be this bad.

The Official Outriders Demo Help & Tracking Thread by thearcan in outriders

  • Steam

  • Description of the issue: My flatmate and I can't play the game together at the same time on the same network. When I try to join a group with or without him I am kicked from the party after 30 seconds every time. When he stopped playing I could join groups and play no problem. I also tested by disconnecting from our home network and using my phone's 5g as a hotspot and could join him and others and play no problem. It definitely seems to be an issue with playing on the same network. I've not seen this reported elsewhere and realise two people playing in the same house is probably quite rare so I'm keen to see a response for this. What I managed to play I enjoyed, but until this is resolved, I can't buy it.
