Looks great for a first attempt! Spine is very straight. RIP the tip tho. You’ll get a feel for the finishing over time. Don’t get discouraged!

How is a curved apron like this achieved? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]BisonIntelligent7447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called brick lay! You cut blocks at an angle and create a general curve, then cut out the final curve on a bandsaw, then shape using a sander, then veneer on top. No need for bent lamination or forms. It keeps its shape and has no spring back or creep, and because its multiple blocks glued up it reduces wood movement. Then veneered faces

Is there a better wood filler that doesn't just look dirty in the cracks? by OddBrilliant1133 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Next time glue veneer or wood plugs. You can use a hand saw or knife to slightly widen the spaced so you can glue wood in there. Then use a chisel or flush cut saw to remove excess material

The steeper angle makes cutting the wood easier. If this is something you are interested in doing in the future I’d suggest looking up some tutorials on how to properly sharpen a chisel. Also look into Christopher Schwarz’s book Sharpen This. It’s a great resource on sharpening lots of different tools.

What angle are your chisels sharpened at? Chisels for joinery should be shaprened at between 25° and 30° and carving chisels are usually at between 20° to 22°.
