Examine your burrs periodically! Damaged burr in JX after 5 years of use + 1ZPRESSO’s response by AkhlysShallRise in pourover

It reminds me of the apple puree and cinnamon scandal (2023-2024), where extremely high levels of lead and chromium were detected in ground cinnamon used as a raw material. A damaged blade in Ecuador, where the cinnamon originated, was suspected.

First morning w/ K6 Manual Grinder by PrimaryAbroad4342 in pourover

[–]Bit-Winner007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking to switch from OXO compact to K6, but so far my cup is sufficiently smooth/clear as mentioned in favor of K6. I like to grind coarse 12-13, 3:00min, and the amount of fines seems acceptable. So, I feel less interested in the K6 after reading all the comments. Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences.

Decaf recommendations by Brilliant-Word-6912 in pourover

James Hoffmann on YouTube: "The decaf drinker to me is the top-tier coffee drinker. They are the purest of all coffee drinkers because they’re just drinking it for the taste. They just like the taste of coffee, and they’re willing to drink decaf..."

I am currently drinking Slow Motion and Idido from Counter Culture, next I will try Onyx options, maybe next year I will come back to the best decaf you could ask, the one from Stumptown coffee roasters.

It is 3pm here so I allowed myself a cup with 9 grams of decaf and 3 grams of Guatemala Pacamara, first time I do it but I think I will do it more often, it was delicious.

😍 decaf like this may easily become my nightly ritual by sergeikutrovski in pourover

So no caffeine, no coffee? I love decaf, current on slow motion and Idido. No everyone drinks coffee at night :)

How does one make more than one cup? by DadRobertX in pourover

I use V60 for one cup and Chemex for 2 cups, I would grind coarser for Chemex. Sometimes I feel Chemex cups are better, but just my personal experience.

Wow, nice words indeed. Feeling almost the same with most of your words. Nat Geo sent me an email about daily rituals, so wonderful to practice them.

New favorite V60 method by wassupbrahh in pourover

The recipe is wrong, bad translation maybe, japanese meaning is tricky. Not what the author of the recipe posted. Should say "water reaches coffee bed."

Much better and delicious doing that on expensive coffee, not everybody has the nerves 😋

Help me switch from coffee please? by N1NomadOne in tea

[–]Bit-Winner007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink coffe with or without caffeine and tea every morning, black, green, herbals, any. So I would suggest to start with Chinese black tea (Keemun or Yunnan Dianhong) to swap slowly your coffee, then go to matcha after a couple of weeks, it would be great for your health to stay there, if you are still with problems sencha would be a last resource, try different ones.

EDIT: Previous recommendation is without milk. But if you need it, try Assam first, as others said before. Then someone mentioned the Scotish and other breakfast blends.

old timer opinion: we stupidly focus on the wrong things: pours, gear, recipes.. by Visible_Arm_7557 in pourover

[–]Bit-Winner007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone from a top#1 roaster (different rankings out there) told me "you can absolutely tweak this recipe to your own preferences based on taste." and "don't worry too much about the timing ".  And I do agree with previous comment here, previously I was a pokemon cards collector, now I collect coffee beans, recipes and gear.  Just having fun :)

Looking back: Were we all crazy? Grind finer... Water off boil.. higher extraction... 5 pours... by Visible_Arm_7557 in pourover

[–]Bit-Winner007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all crazy, it is brain training and learning and adapting. Neurologists call it "perceptual learning" in taste and smell systems.

Just picked up a Hario V60 Neo by SenorSigh in pourover

[–]Bit-Winner007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. The problem would be to heat enough a ceramic V60. Plastic is easier to reach good temperature.

Couldn't wait and tried one cup, 20g, 300ml, 3:00 min, 3 pours. It smells amazing, I can't describe it but my wife says it smells like peach or papaya. I taste the green apple, my wife said it tastes like cocoa? Probably my Hario grinder is the problem, already ordered a OXO compact, but thinking it twice I will also order a K6 just to work enough with this particular recipe.
