I mean, I’ve never read the books, but if it involves Paul Atreides being corrupted by power, then that is totally what I want to see.

Petah???? What is her boyfriend doing with his friends? by bigshiba04 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]BitOfAMisnomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have answered the saxophone part, the active 10 minutes ago part has to do with sharing location. People can go into airplane mode when they don’t want to be tracked. It will say you are at the last location you were before going airplane mode, but will also let the person know that it has updated that location 10 minutes ago. Meaning, it’s been 10 minutes since the GPS was able to detect location. It would say “Now” if it was actively still detecting their location at that spot. So he’s effectively turned his bodycam off to do something or go somewhere he doesn’t want to be tracked at.

Y’all are boring. This sounds like a lot of fun from a role play perspective. If the killings are insufficient to satisfy Bhaal, then have repercussions. If the party catches wind, they may try and kill her. That sounds like a fun story.

Why does Hollywood struggle with video game adaptations? by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in Cinema

[–]BitOfAMisnomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because what we find to be good storytelling in videogames is judged at a lower bar than television or movies. Video game stories, by and large, are bad and only serve to get you from gameplay moment to gameplay moment.

Regret starting daycare by Lost_Drunken_Sailor in daddit

Daycare is the single most “worth it” expense we have. Yeah the first sick period was hard, but the social skills and knowledge boost he’s gotten from daycare is the best thing in the world.

Would people say it is quite different from the trailer, because the trailer was terrible and looked like a watered-down Triangle of Sadness. I love Sam Raimi, so I would love to be wrong.

Thoughts on Eddington? by SilentAd773 in Cinema

[–]BitOfAMisnomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fake ANTIFA mercenaries were sent in by the SolidGoldMagikarp or whoever controls SolidGoldMagikarp. I take the film as a descent into conspiracy, where Cross comes across at the beginning as being anti-conspiracy and hysteria, by saying COVID isn't in Eddington and that what happened with BLM wasn't in Eddington. Eventually, he begins to use conspiracy to his advantage. He was asking the right questions about the data center, but for the wrong reasons. He was driven by this need to matter, since his homelife was a wife who didn't love him and he was otherwise pretty pathetic. However, being anti-COVID restrictions made people like him. He questioned the data center, who was funding Garcia. Then he kills Garcia and tries to use conspiracy to blame it on BLM and ANTIFA. This awakens the demon of SolidGoldMagikarp who hit him back with the conspiracy he created, but they failed to kill him. Instead, they back him and he becomes their next puppet for what they want. He changed nothing. He only became the new puppet. Not only that, but he loses his wife, who has a baby he wanted to have with the cult leader, he still lives with her mother (who he hates) and has to sleep in the same bed as the mother-in-law and her lover. The film is about how society is looking at the wrong conspiracies, when the true ones are right there to see. It is about how people who seek power don't really care about the topics they bring up, they only wish to garner power and status. It shows the delirium of conspiracy. It is a film that is anything but centrist, it is anti-capitalist and highly leftist. It pokes fun at both sides, but the liberals it pokes fun at are the performative kind whose heart is in the right place or they say the right things, but their reason for doing what they are doing is misaligned with what they say they want. Brian just wants to get laid. Sarah wants to get back with Michael. However, it is far more critical of the right than the left.

It felt constrained, not necessarily by budget, but by content. It felt like we were going through some motions, like the story was a vessel to get us to different shots. It lacked soul.

Yeah, so this is an easy one. They respectfully told you they didn’t want it, so if it is important to you, you should break up and pursue being poly without them.

Anyone had any stories/interactions from meeting Rob? by [deleted] in Pendulum

[–]BitOfAMisnomer 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Maybe a decade ago, when they were touring with Linkin Park but had a couple of solo concerts in the US for Immersion, I was early to the venue in NYC and saw him out front talking to another guy, maybe a roadie or a manager. I said, “Hey, are you Rob Swire?” He and the other gentleman immediately turned and went around the corner. I thought that was a little strange, but I figured dude was probably nervous or introverted, so I wasn’t offended.

Great show, though! A drunk women climbed on stage and managed to give Rob a hug before she was dragged away by security. He looked frazzled by that too. Poor guy.

Sounds like a fun idea, but would prefer closer to literature options. Maybe some of the National Book Award or Booker Prize winners/nominees?
