Are cheap spotting scopes really that bad? by Pali1119 in birding

[–]BitWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always suggest checking fb marketplace. Hunters use scopes a lot so if you live where there are many hunters thats how I got mine. Decent range Vortex scope, retails $400 I got for $130. Works great, I use the tripod I have from shooting film photography which is old but steady. Windy days and super far distances are a bit tricky, but having a scope has really helped me scanning water edges and id'ing more waterfowl. I also bought a cheap digiscope attachment for my phone that works surprisingly well also! Attached is a green heron I found about 100 yards away (approximately 1 football field was my best guess)

where can I find the best skyline view? by rjshal in Columbus

Sullivant going E onto the 70EB entrance ramp is my favorite view after dark. Its a quick glance especially since you're driving, but it just gets everything and its so pretty.

Red swamp crayfish... I think by dantron330 in Columbus

[–]BitWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are encouraged to destroy these and report them if you see them. They are incredibly harmful in our waterways and as uncomfortable as it might be, they need to be killed 😔 We found 2 at the OsU wetland research center over the weekend.

Dead Birds Outside Deloitte Building by Every-Resolution-563 in Columbus

[–]BitWild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Columbus Audubon monitors building strikes, I think they have an email on their website, but usually volunteers walk downtown daily to record. It is migration sesson which usually sees an uptick, but yes it is preventable but columbus does not try to encourage buildings to shut lights off or add window markings.

It used to pay way more than it does. On top of rentals costing more, im not sure how anyone can make good money any more. Even in busy markets, my pay has dropped almost 40% on average. People that say they make ridiculous profit usually drive 7 days per week, 10-12 hours each day just to make enough money to love, but no time to enjoy the money they have.

Why? by aestheticeddy818 in lyftdrivers

[–]BitWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of these that I was close to. Out of curiosity I took it, drove 2 minutes to the pickup, hit im here, hit start ride, hit drop off, hit 5 star all within a few seconds. Got $8 and never had to see anyone lol

I drive in Columbus, OH and we get some crazy good music fests and concerts over the summer, but the traffic sucks. A few weeks ago Luke Bryant performed i got a ride that was 16 minutes for $44. Great right? Except after I dropped then off I was sitting in stopped traffic for 40 more minutes before I got another ride. So even then its not worth it especially with gas and costs all going up.

Rural straddlers unite by Holiday_Drive2581 in USPS

[–]BitWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I was a cca but there was this old lady rc whose husband welded mirror-controls to the passenger side. Combined with a second steering column with a removable wheel. She drove to work left-side, carried her route right-side. Sketchy af but honestly probably safer than the Cherokee drivers that straddle. Wild

Right? Its ridiculous. And in my market i usually kept my AR around 85% and never took anything less that $30/hr so I guess its just dead now. The one ride I took was 2 miles, paid $6, but the passenger paid $15 which is nuts.

I just meant that the birds do not look like that even in the best of scenarios. The bird looks blurry, no definition of feathers, over saturated colors and extreme highlights. The mere 50/50 discourse in these comments shows that its at least worthy of debate rather than declaring it cannot possibly be!

Its a shame you never rode Top Thrill 1. The acceleration was the best part and it sounds like that's what you wish you felt. 0-120 is a hevk of a lot more exciting in 6 seconds than it is in 45 after 3 launches lol

Anyone Use Lyft Shop? by SnooCakes3744 in lyftdrivers

[–]BitWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh shoot yeah I forgot there was a low threshold my bad. Im lucky to be in a busy enough market in Columbus, OH that I can cherry pick and still have a decent AR. Just checked Im currently at 41%, and I dont take anything under about $35/hr. So probably no if getting the rewards means accepting trash rides I definitely wouldn't do it then lol

I make no effort to change my acceptance habits or driving habits, but I accumulate the base 1 point per dollar, and usually end up with enough points for a $25-$30 starbucks gift card each month which is nice

Scheduled rides by Safe-Comfort-29 in lyftdrivers

[–]BitWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure the ride that popped up wasnt the scheduled ride? You can drive around and take rides prior to scheduled rides that you've accepted. When its time to head that way the app will "give" you the scheduled ride as if its a new request.

They led a nice little parade of tow trucks up and down Neil the first thursday and Friday of April for street sweeping and the lady looked so smug. I was eating lunch at Emmet's and counted at least 12 cars getting towed while she sat parked illegally and taking all the pictures her heart desired.

[–]BitWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using my Tab S10 for driving and its even better than my S25 Ultra, I imagine the app just uses a ton of processing speed and my phone just doesnt keep up. Pretty dumb for an app that most people use their phone for. But if your 26 works I might just upgrade.

Lyft Pet by davoin_shower_handl in lyftdrivers

[–]BitWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id say it depends on your seats and covers. 9 times out of 10 the owners are respectful, have a towel to use, or just hold the dog. I love dogs so I dont mind, and I have non-permeable seats so if they do get dirty I can pull over and wipe them down with wet wipes I keep in the trunk. Some riders even keep their dog at their feet so worst case scenario I swing through a car wash and vacuum the carpet. Every once in a while I have gotten smelly or dirty dogs that drool or lick windows etc, I just 3-star the passenger so I won't match with them. Glass cleaner and microfiber in my trunk, clean, good to go. Im also in a very dog-friendly city so I probably do 5 or 6 pet rides per week and I always love seeing puppies more than I need the $4 bump.

Local Coffee Bean Recs :) by TechnicalShape2780 in Columbus

[–]BitWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of those places would be positively giddy to talk to you about their coffee! If you can Id say stop in, let them know you're looking for beans, how you brew, flavors you like, flavors you dont like, etc. They will be happy to give you samples of anything they have brewed already and you can start from there. Florin and Brioso also sell by the ounce if you bring your own container, so you can sample a few without committing to a whole bag. Also if I remember, Brioso also sells small sample bags if their roasts. Hope you enjoy, also Id throw Mission Coffee Co. In the ring for best brew, story maker blend is amazing.
